[PotUS] One Last Time

Day 3,179, 21:38 Published in USA USA by Yui MHCP001

It’s been a long three months. A very long three months.

In the musical Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton is obsessed with his legacy. He’ll do anything to make it, protect it, and have it survive, even going so far as to release his affair to the public with the Reynolds Pamphlet just to show he wasn’t embezzling money.

We have many players who already have a legacy, such as Glove, whose legacy is being a terrible CP, but it’s a legacy none the less. There’s also people who are still playing, such as Wild Owl for his godly Foreign Affairs ability.

I’ve always wanted to be a part of the gallery of players who are or will be remembered in eRepublik. But at the same time, I never wanted to put in the work either. I hated party work, didn’t go too far in the military branch, and was never involved in politics aside from getting Congressmen a few times.

However, in the last year, things changed. Aramec shoved me into the NSC Chair for my first real cabinet job, which helped me get farther in both the Military and Political branches, as it lead me to get even more NSC Chair positions under various other presidents, and a Vice Presidency under Gnilraps.

All that wasn’t enough. You’re not going to be remembered by just doing your job, you have to do your job to an extraordinary ability, to the point where it can be considered a turning point in eUSA history. So imagine my reaction when Resource Wars came about. An opportunity to kick absolute arse, and advancing the country's’ economic position in the process.

At this point, we all know how that went. We came out on top, with 19/20 resources. We now make ~75K a day with 2% tax, compared to before Resource Wars, where we made ~170K with 15%.

After Resource Wars, I assumed that my legacy was set, being one of the few people responsible of how we did. I had originally planned to let that speak for itself, and not pursue anything but another NSC or VP term. However, many people came out in support of me running for the big chair before I even gave hints of wanting to run.

Now we’re here. 2 months after Resource wars, 2 months after my first campaign.

As a country, we’ve done quite well for ourselves. In the first month of my presidency, I waited for changes that came towards the end of the month, which was unfortunate. I had expected the changes to come faster, so I hesitated to do much, worrying that what I would have done would put as at some disadvantage for when the changes did come. But at the same time, in the last 10 days of the first month, we began the invasion of Spain with our friends Poland, Hungary, Argentina, and Portugal in Operation Make the Iberian Peninsula Great Again. It was yuuuuuuge, and fantastic. We absolutely decimated Spain, and then quietly pulled out to let the other countries take the regions a few days later. We absolutely made the Iberian Peninsula great again.

Afterwards, in my second month, we turned our attention toward Latvia. Latvia had been wiped by Lithuania for a few days at the time, and we were pestering them asking for a plan to liberate them from oppression. After getting the green light, we got to work, and free’d a few of Latvia’s cores from Lithuania. The war was mostly back and forth after that point, and just a few days ago we got word that it is now a Training War. We’re glad to hear about this resolution to the conflict.

We then saw that our allies in South America, specifically Brazil and Argentina, come under threat from FYROM and Bulgaria. We couldn’t stand the sight of tyranny in our Americas, and with the authority of the Monroe Doctrine, we launched an airstrike on FYROM. While the direct airstrike unfortunately failed, the objective of the airstrike was completed, as both countries were forced out of South America in the days following the airstrike. We were happy to help, and will be happy to help if it happens again in the near future.

As my presidency’s last hurrah, we are currently invading the United Kingdom. The first few days of the invasion were a large success, winning every battle, but in the last couple of days UK has put up some opposition with their Combat Orders. We’re confident that we’ll outlast them, and complete a wipe of their lands. Hopefully this will teach their Congress that re-assigning your National MU fund to giving your Congressmen 5 Gold a month isn’t such a good idea after all.

NOTE: As of Day 3180, the UK has voted down their stupid 5 Gold law, and we have agreed to a Training War

But through all our victories under my watch, I have had a few failures.

My media has been said to be lackluster at best. I published 5 PotUS articles in my first term (although I admit one of them was more of a joke article if anything), and this will be my 4th PotUS article in my second term. There was supposed to be another, however unfortunately the catalyst for it never came about. So why has it been said to be lackluster? Is it because I wasn’t on everyone’s forums talking with them throughout the month? Was it because of the quality, or lack thereof, of the articles? Was it the lack of mammary glands IRL? I personally don’t have a specific reason as to why I think my media was lackluster, but I do admit that it could have been much better. I do however believe that people give in-game media too much weight when it comes to judging engagement. I have been on IRC everyday talking with whomever wanted to converse, and have been open to interviews from anyone who sent questions my way, such as Hadrian and Foxi Roxi.

There was also the entire Russian situation, which you can read about in its’ entirety here.

At the end of the day, I can say that my time as President wasn’t nearly as bad as it really could have been. We’ve supported our allies when they needed it, and supported them when they simply asked for our help. I’d like to thank all those who served in my cabinet. I have nothing bad to say about any of you, you all did an amazing job for what I gave you.

However, I find myself questioning how it will be perceived in the future. How will I be thought of in a year’s time? How will this affect my legacy? Will it diminish it, or will it not change it at all? That is yet to be definitively determined, but it all depends on who lives, who dies, who tells your story.
