To born, to live, and to die.

Day 5,719, 22:45 Published in Austria Austria by Yhamilitz the Night Watch

Guten tag meine Freunde!

It has been a while since I come to you with an random Article like this.
But sometimes, there is something appearing, and sometimes, you need to write about it.

There is something that happened recently that made me think about the situation in Erepublik. And it's about their people.

If you don't know, there was an eCanadian Player that passed away recently.. I just learn that today (Day 5,719)

I cannot say that Thedillpickl and myself were in touch very often. But somehow, I had him on my friend list. So sometimes I saw him on the friend's feed. I remember him as a polite person. And reading some comments on that article, made me think about something inside Erepublik...

Erepublik, the new alternative world

As you should know, everyone have their RL. In their country, and being part of their community somehow (I hope so) This is one of the few places, where you can actually be able to meet people from many places around the globe. And of course, satisfy your most internal desires that you would not have access in RL at the moment.

In RL, most of us are average people. Are part of the working class (At least by statistics), and use this place as something parallel to our life. Or at least that was the original idea. Or this is how they brought people here in the first place.

But time had passed, some of use had been here in a very long, long time. And we are not the same. (At least not in mindset). Erepublik somehow was attractive with the premise of being what you really wanted to be (That sounds like an motto for a certain movie that will be around the 21th of July).

But things got more complicated...

(BTW, I actually used Erep for accomplish a fantasy I had when I was 15 years old, which was going to Austria)

Erepublik, the Internet's World Bar

The Yhamilitz of 13-14 years ago (when was around 15-16 yrs old) saw this place as a game, similar to those games based on politics, and geography.

It contains countries, and I was very fan of Alternative History Videos, so it was attractive on that level for me. Also I had Imperialist ambitions.

So, yes, Erepublik was the "New World". But now as a man of almost 30, I see that this look more like an Internet Bar.

This game right now, had became a little routinary. There is not a lot of things to do, besides just doing the training and work stuff...

The real interesting random thing, came mainly in 2 places: The media (Which is death, in most of the world) and in the Military, which if you are not part of one active MU, you will probably get bored.

And here is when the little bar came, to warmly invite you to the table, to talk about stuff. With other players on Erepublik.

Every country have it's bar, and every MU have their table. Some of those tables, are outside in a beer garden (Or in your park tables, if you are not in Europe)

You don't believe me?

So as I found, Erepublik is like an Internet Bar And in that place, you can meet people, interact with them, talk about stuff, and so...

You may experience some foreign culture there as well.

When someone leaves

Someone may leave the game for many reasons... But if there is a very sad way to see, is when you leave the game even if you don't want to.

People in RL perish, that is the natural thing to happen. But if they are Erepublik players, specially someone that is part of their community, it feels like an emptiness. Because you know, that is a person that will not come back to the Internet Bar. One empty sit on the bar will remain. And maybe a remembrance will remain.

It also because of other situations. Maybe you find, the love of your life, and decide to raise a family. Or maybe there is an event that will maintain you far from here.

When someone born

Here something interesting happen: Usually the span of interest is very short, and if you don't get it on the first time. You will basically lost that person. This is when people need to be more creative, and both parts need to cooperate.

You cannot force people to interact, but also you cannot force a community to accept you... There are some rules you need to follow, just like in bars, there are some admission rules. And also the language is very important. (At least in Latin America and many countries of Europe, if you only speak English, you will probably not make it)

So the common thing is to span in your local bar, or in a similar bar where you don't see a language barrier. (If a Guatemalan Player appears in Erep, they will find that there is no Guatemala, so the most logical thing, is to appear in a Spanish speaking country)

So, here is when thing gets trickier. In order to hold communities united, there should be a sense of unity. Because if we don't do it. Plato will not.

Erepublik, the game bar of the players

And this is the thing. Without us, (The player) this thing just closes...
If you think about it, is because of us, the players, the reason why this place still exist.

There is no random events, there is no excitement in things. Just numbers, and stuff to buy.

I only know one thing. If this thing dies (Due Server collapse) I'll be still hang around my dear eAustrian Bar. (And the Mexican one, even if I had been extremely inactive there, because of University).

Just remember that we might came here for glory, but we stay for the friends we make. And the memories...
