The reason to play Erepublik

There are 2 kinds of power, the hard power and the soft power. Use the one who works better on you
Hay 2 clases de poder: El poder duro y el poder blando. Usa el que se adapte mejor a ti

Guten tag meine Freunde.

Has been a while since I have written something in this game. 😃 And even if there are some reasons, I know that the most honest answer I can tell you, is because of the loss of inspiration, there was not something strong that worked as inspiration.

But, there was something that changed. Something I didn’t expect, but happened.

So, I decided to come here and tell you a little bit about it. That little part of my eLife, (With a lot of context) so there could be some records for future generations in Erepublik.

I came here to write a little bit about something that lasted for 47 minutes. Yes, do not be even one hour long, but make a lot of echo for made me write this and show you what can make this fellow writer to keep going to be around here, after almost 12 years in this game. (Even if is just like 3% of the huge article, but was the little light that turn on the flames)

I do not have the strongest account, and I’m not the richest here. But the social aspect is what maintains this humble MoFA account to be still around. And now I’m going to show you one of those “why”...

Yhamilitz, the preorigins, Before Erepublik

I don’t come here to tell you about what I say in 30% of the articles I write, because I know, it may be annoying. But what I’m going to do is tell you some of my behaviors in the past. Why “I am how I am”.

As you could know, in RL, I am a Mexican who lives in the US, one of those 35 million souls in the land of Burgers and Baseball. Maybe one of those who better speaks the language of Cervantes in Anglo lands. I had a strange teenagehood as I had some experiences that influenced some of my behaviors in this game.

Since I was 12 to 16 years old, I was very exposed to foreing cultures, and I grew apart from my cultural roots. It was a little bit radical. Also considering that when I was 8, my mother changed religion (Which may sound irrelevant, but I swear, it has something to do), and when I came to the US, my mother forced an isolation from the religion of my family (Catholicism), Which because of her religion (Let’s call it American Evangelism) she involuntarily force a strong barrier between some mexican cultural stuff (Like the Day of the Death).

From the other side, I fought against some stereotypes toward Mexicans in some minds (From Americans, to Mexican-Americans), as my own existence broke with those stereotypes. As without speaking any English I had better grades compared with some locals in most of the clases (Specially in STEMs, but also in history classes) There was nothing more embarrassing for some of those locals that a person with linguistic limitations was doing better than them.
Then, in the US, I developed my love towards Football (Soccer for Americans) which basically was an act of resistance against the contempt that many people have towards that sport, in contrast with American Football (One of the main reasons why I don’t watch it, is because or some arrogance of their Mexicans or Mexican-American fans towards Football. In which, I need to mention, some Americans had helped me to see the good part of the sport, far from that toxic behavior)

I’m the only one in my family who actually likes Football very much, (My father’s family supports a local team called “Santos Laguna”, just because they live in the city of that team) But many of them prefer American Football. So as time happens, my interest in Football becomes more as a rebellious act as when I came to Mexico at the age of 16. All this because Football is somehow considered in some places of the country as a “low class sport” and some people from a certain political spectrum also hate Football. (Which also determine some of my postures)

Ok, maybe Football here is something additional in the Article, but as you can see here, I have some rebellious behavior. I hate to be forced to do stuff I hate. Which basically will determinate some of my first behaviors in Austria and in Mexico. (Those with memory know what I’m talking about)

So, when I began to play Erepublik?

Well, it started like this: In one of my more memorable High School classes, it was about Graphic Design with AutoCAD (So I used computers, with Internet). There I had some “Anglo-American” Professors. As I always did the work well done, without speaking the language, I won the respect of those professors. As sometimes people asked me for help (And they translated to me, you know, you do what you need to do for survive)

So as I did not have a Computer in my home, I always played Cybernations on those computers. and then one day, I made an Erepublik Account and I played it from there.

So there is no doubt that my first steps in Erepublik were in some American High School Classrooms. I became Austrian there, and I did my Erepublik Stuff from there.

Those were very good times, in which I remember, I also played some football with my friends in a country where most people didn’t like football, and I remember, I wanted to be as Rafael Marquez (A Mexican Defender, who played in Barcelona) On those times, there was also an Austrian Player, called Andreas Ivanschitz (Which is the reason, why I put my nickname as “Yhamilitz” which is a made word from my RL name Yhamil, and the 3 letters “itz” from “Ivanschitz”.

That's how crazy I was about Football. And Yhamilitz because my nickname for everything I do on the Internet or video games.

At 15 years old, I began my life in Erepublik. As you can see, from that age, someone in Erepublik may have it’s different goals, compared to the average goals from people here. (Which were mainly Military goals)

This video basically is a reflection of my spirit in the game, and the Military part was the last priority. As I didn’t have any VISA, and I didn't even get any RL money, I came here and I used other dynamics for my entertainment.

Yhamilitz, los comienzos en Erepublik

At 16 Years old, I came back to Mexico RL. In the game, I was an Austrian, and I had never interacted with Spanish Speakers ingame. How was this possible? (Specially as I was not very good with English)

Well, as there are a lot of things in Erepublik that someone just do, and you cannot explain it in a simple way, sometimes we become an alter ego here in Erepublik. Remember, This is the New World. Here you can do “whatever you want”. And for a non-VISA player like me on those times (Not right now, but by that time, sure) I tried to do my own stuff.

First, sometimes a guy from those ages, wants to feel accepted, or at least not feel rejection.

In RL as I came back to my country, (Because my mother wanted to xD ) I lost some cultural stuff in the country. Yes, I spoke Spanish very well, but some other Mexican stuff was not natural to me. One of those little things was that “Mexican double sense”. Also called “Albur” in Spanish.

At that time, as mexican, I was very serious, so sometimes people got very confused with me. In other words, I hardly could speak “casually” with other people because I could not hang out their sense of humor. many people told me I was very literal. So my seriousness created problems.

So, what does this have to do with Erepublik?

Here guy was the roots of my first interaction with the first mexican community (Community in which by the way, is almost non existent right now)

I came to eMexico in the first time, maybe in 2010. At that time, I was still living in the US. It was strange but in Erep, I never played in the USA, I barely had contact with the country. But because of my Mexican affinity I tried the country. I am not going to lie to you, it was not a very nice experience. There was a rejection from the elite controlling the country, also made popular from another person. At 16, this created some resentments.

What can someone from an age of 15-16 years do in a game dominated by adults? Not so much except to leave the game or “keep playing Erepublik”. So that makes me move out and try to look for other places. Which I eventually became an explorer. I had not lost contact with everyone as I still was able to make some friends, but I had some friction with those older guys.

At that time, as I could understand the Language of Shakespeare, I decided to not turn close minded by staying in mexico and I explored other places, I went to Philippines, Croatia, Cyprus (In Cyprus, some people of Mexico sabotaged me, which increased my anger to them) New Zealand (Which was a strange experience, as there was also a group of mexicans who created a rivalry with another group in the country), Bulgaria (Which I had some issues because of the language) Chile, and North Macedonia (I was invited to DSW). Without counting the multiple times I come back to Austria and Mexico. Because there were no places like those. In a English Speaking community, I never felt so comfortable in other places, as I felt in Austria.

Yhamilitz, the comeback, Erepublik as a tool for use English

After having multiple nationalities, I could not adapt better in any other place except Austria, (Because in Mexico, as you read before, some players caused me some problems) So English became my language in this game. Just to mention, I barely spoke the language, but I used it for practice here in Erep. Because I spoke Spanish, I was given the duty of being Ambassador of Austria to Spanish Speaking nations. (Which to be honest, was a little bit problematic to me when it was in places like Spain, and I was also “famous” there when I was in MX and I wrote some trolling articles, and as the Relationship between Mexico and Austria, was non existent, so It was more like a ornament presence)

At the end, I developed very little affinity toward other places like Latin America (Except with some traditional Mexican allies as Venezuela or Chile) With Spain, the affinity was somehow cold.

Indifference towards some, and bad reputation on others.

How was I still involved in Mexico due the problems I had?

Despite the problems I had with some Mexican Dinos (They are called like that) some other younger players accepted me. Just because of the little issues I created in the past, some of them thought I was not able to have any real government position, as President. The only experience I had was being Ambassador of Austria in Spain. Everything changed when a person who was not so nice to me, asked me for help in translating a trolling article vs the eUSA (Because he barely spoke any English at all) So then people realized that I could be a translator. So it was until I was required to help to be the interpreter of the Mexican Gov. Which in that time, I didn’t wanted to know anything about the eUS (It was in the moment Mexico was kick out of PANAM by the US request, the new resources appeared, and PANAM became Terra). So the Mexican government wanted to make a peace treaty with the US, and the officials didn't speak any English. Some other people did, but they didn’t want to help because they were the opposition. So they begged me to help them.

That’s to that little action, that I began to use a lot of English and became the intermediate between Mexico and Europe. Not as a MoFA, but a supporter of the MoFA. Meanwhile, my interaction with the Americas was very minimal. Knowing English, was something that made me closer to some, but also kept me far from others.

Some time passed and then, I ended by ignoring most of the Spanish Speaking world. Except by Mexico, my attention was very minimal. All the cases were mainly because of military orders. In RL, I was also very interested in Europe, and I used English mainly on the Internet as a way to preserve it. (Because where I lived, no one speaks English) So I was focused on that thing that was exotic to me.

This happened in that way, that eventually I finished in a Military Unit called Dark Side Wolves, I met Miss Paunova, and I almost eMarried her.

After 2013, I stopped to get another citizenship that was not Austria or Mexico. Then in 2013, I stopped to be involved with the rest of the Americas, In 2014, I worked more a side with Kerito at the time, I was almost like a MoFA, helping the current MoFA, and Kerito did the same with the MoD of that time. I was helping with countries outside the Americas, meanwhile the MoFA focused on Latin America or Spain.

In 2015, Kerito eDied, therefore, I felt in Inactivity. It happened in a time when an Alliance called Andes appeared. Then I moved to Austria, I killed my account there, and I created this one in 2016, which by the way, I was very inactive, almost as a ghost, and my activities remained as mainly economical activities. This is how I grow my Houses companies. In the Shades, and where no one could see.

I had little or no activity in Mexican politics by then. So little that I was not actually involved and informed about anything happening in the surroundings. I sometimes left the game (That's why it looks like I only have around 70k strength, when I could have around 130k strength). So, from 2015, I was basically as a ghost and I contributed to anything in a social or military way. That's why I remained under level 32 so much time.

Before I keep going...

Probably at this point to ask yourself: How can someone who speaks Spanish, could reject or avoid so much time, their “cultural zone”?

In my honest way, I cannot really give a short answer to that question. I don’t think it is a rejection to my culture, as I almost speak Spanish most of the time. (Erepublik and my University, are the only places I use English in a common way) But, also I think that is a rejection of being labeled by others. (I'm glad to help, but I don’t like to be forced to do things in a bad way) In which, this also includes some (As you could imagine) Stereotypes.

I told you the American side of the story (The Experience) And also I had mentioned the religious issues. (Which will take more protagonism then). Which all this later on could hit stronger in social ways mainly in communications and misunderstandings. First seen in the game, but then in RL.

So, what happened next, in my Mexican years. (At the age of 16 to 22 yrs old.) I had that local experience, but that was between my 16s and 19s. Then something else happened. Here, I was facing another episode in my life: rejection of my mother’s religion, as I had a cultural shock inside the family and still, people wondering other aspects from my behavior, which eventually became another problem in the University.

Remember that moment when I said : “What can someone from an age of 15-16 years do in a game dominated by adults?”

Ok, so here, there is someone young, with other ideas, and then, this someone needs to also deal with more people, with their ideas, very rooted in them. Remember that sometimes older people always blame younger people as they see them “wrong” It happens in RL, but it may also happen in this game. Because remember, this game is also dominated by adults.

Now, coming back to the story: except by the “easy academical readaptation” I had some issues integrating to the social norms in interaction. (So from here, we are on the same page and it is not a big deal). The issue came, again, when I established contact with these “rooted people” in the University, and there were more cosmopolitan contacts.

Between 2013-2015 (When I was more active in Mexico inside Erepublik) I had some problems with some professors because of ideological issues. Not because I was causing trouble, but because some other people looked at me as a kind of “threat” blinded by their ideological fanaticism. Some of them Academicals, and then some of them, international students from other Spanish Speaking places. (Which by the way, they were my first contact with their countries) All this created a bigger distance from me towards their ideas, or their countries) it was more personal.

Those little details that are not very superficial, but there was something that broke their normality, and did not follow their idea of how the world is. So they ask, “Why are you like that?”

First happened in the RL US, then in Erep, then in RL Mexico.

So this increased my apathy towards some places in the world. Which boosted some of my behavior towards the Americas. Even though in 2015, I got inactive for 5 years, and I got far from some aspects in the game, it was then when eventually, the Spanish speaking community in the game was unknown to me.

But then, there were 2 events that happened here in Erep, that changed everything:

TWs between Austria and Argentina, the beginning

Around those days in October in 2020, there was beginning to grow a relationship between Austria and Argentina. In the beginning I was not very interested personally, to be honest, but at that time, I was participating very much in Austria, and as I spoke Spanish, I was a good intermediate for the stuff we needed to do. So, I was glad to help. At that time, I also discovered that Capowear spoke Spanish, and was from Argentina RL. (Which was curious, because I know him for years, but I never knew he was from Argentina, or even that he spoke Spanish)

Then, I did something I never did before: I began to meet and involve so much in a community of a Spanish Speaking country that was not Mexico. I meet a lot of people, Some of them were Jorgedpp, Loliicapri, PsyCokenin, tanque pavone, atila is back, and others.

I can say that with Argentina, I began to open myself and I began to establish contact with the rest of the Spanish Speaking world. It was the foundations. Which also, something that helped me to open, is that I had a good experience with a professor from Argentina, in my current university.

That experience as a MoFA was very important (As I also became a MoFA, in an official way)

And why this experience was important?

For the following...

In a place in Twitch

It was around January of 2021, when a Twitch Channel appeared. A channel that was hosted by someone who spoke Spanish. Before that, I didn’t have a Twitch profile.

As I played so much this game in English (When I was not doing stuff with Mexico) and as “I discovered Argentina” I realized that what I experienced in the US in RL, in Mexico in RL, and being isolated very much from some people due some experiences, had eventually keep me far from a region in the world in which I’m related somehow.

A MoFA as it is, needs to be around and know what is happening, know as much as he can from the International context. Speaking English helped me to be the bridge between Mexico and Europe in the past. But the rest of the Americas was not in my radar. around 2020, I was thinking that the game was socially dead but not in reality. Mexico was the one in a “Zombie stage”. And when I wrote Articles, I tought, I was writing articles for a 2-clickers community.

My reintegration to this game was (As when I came here) in English, with Austria. but with a key difference: With Argentina, I made the foundations for making a better network in the Spanish Speaking Word.

And with a lot of people from Argentina being my friends ingame, then one of them shared their feed story with a twitch link and then there was a new discovery done...

The name of the Channel was michahelplays, which was created by Michahel. Then in the first days, I came there and I invited some friends from here. So just to make the channel known.

The small international community

For those who doesn’t know the place:

In the channel there are interviews from some players in Erepublik using Spanish. And the locutor speaks about some things. I also noted, Nebula here stands very strong, as me, Hiram F1, lviz Fer, y Clorofila, representing Austria, Mexico, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, we just miss Belarus) we have presence in that channel.

In this channel, there is a small telenovela made as well, in which AlexFran the “fake one” (It is supposed to not be the real one in the game), wants to “liberate” Paraguay from the Kodak’s Dictatorship. But Kodak is very popular. All are “Kodak’s Multis” because #AllesSindKodak (We all are Kodak, in German). Then 5 Million cc were lost, which by the way, AlexFran the “fake one” seems to be the one who stole it.And instead of supporting the channel. I, by using my wealth, apply some nice Austrian Soft power by the MoFA to sponsor that Channel.

I also discovered that some players from Mexico are somehow active, but in other countries. I am not the only one around.

The channel had some distinguished people being interviewed, like the Antichrist, many people from Argentina, some of the most recognized people from Mexico, Some people from Paraguay as well, which one of them is Kodak. Also, this distinguished MoFA who has become the sponsor of that channel. On Tuesday, March 2, of 2021, I heard one of the most beautiful voices in Erep, SATZU, which is the Princess of Paraguay. (That means she is taken, so I lost interest). Even the Mexican famous dictator, México INC was already interviewed.

Clorofila was interviewed as well, and she began to have a romance with the Antichrist, ZP-Rising is another person who was put in the scene in the channel.

And now, it seems that AlexFran the “fake one” found a powerful ally: Miguel Chamorro. And you need to know: Everyone sends their greetings to Miguel Chamorro’s mother, even the Antichrist.

As a matter of fact, on March 3rd, 2021, The stream also talked about March 2nd, or the Day 1198. All this with all the details possible.

The reason to be

So now tell me: There is a way that stories like the one from March 2nd, can be told? Specially for new people?

So as you can see here guys, these spaces are important in some way, as they are also giving space for many stories to be told, narrate events that happened in the past. All this history that new players can hear from the veterans. And they can learn.

This is why this kind of space for me is the real base of the game. Not so much as the wars, or something like that. Remember, that's what admins want you to believe, so you keep passing your VISA here. But also, remember… Your money, your rules. And I decided to play like this, after all my experiences, and all my almost 12 years here. You don't need to have over hundred of thousand of strength, or Legend Rank for staying here. That is the manifest of my way to play this game.

Yes, strength is important, power is also important...

But if you think strength is important, then here is a small story...

Drako Yang was a Mexican Player. He was one of the strongest people in the game. Eventually, he stopped playing this around 2014-2015, and since then, he let his account die. His account is not a weak account, but is far from the most powerful accounts here. And in Mexico, that account could still make a difference.

When you use a determined numeric characteristic in the game as the reason to be in the game, you became vulnerable, So for fight against that, I just pass my VISA for 2 objectives: Farm Gold (Taking Division 2) and get a lot of cc, which I can use to support projects like the one Michahel is doing. Every day, from Monday to Friday. (Not always) around 17:00 Erepublik Time, (2 AM in European Time Zone, sorry guys xD )

This is how I decided to play this, and I do not regret anything, Including making some damage by fun towards some traitors.

An objective I have in the short term, is to get 5 million cc so I can be wealthier that AlexFran “the fake” and then, make a raffle of 1 million cc in Michahel Stream. (I don’t know if by a Pyramids, or by dividing the Million of cc in 3 prices) The objective is to have fun, and make the game even funnier.

If you are a newbie, can you imagine having 1 million cc in your account? Ot at least 6 digits of cc?

This is just one way to play Erepublik, I already found mine, ¿Which is yours?

That's all for now folks. Without anything else to add, except, by sending my greetings to Miguel’s Chamorro’s Mother, and saying that Loliicapri is the best, until the next time!
