Greetings all
In Piet Pommies's recent articles he has tried and successfully achieved in alienating RL foreigners in eSouth Africa. I would be inclined to agree with the statement that eSA isn't "Afrikaans" enough because I'd love to read more Afrikaans literature, BUT often a nation isn't defined by core culture or language, but a bond formed by its citizens in times of turmoil.
A very striking example of the aforementioned would be of the Anglo Boer Wars(we call the freedom struggles). I'm not going to burden you with a history lesson, but if you're interested take a look here.
If you will look at the belligerents you'll see that people from all over Europe joined in on the Boer side. Why exactly? Well the Boer republics were set up in accordance with America's(1st republic) constitution. The facts that economy laws were over-tolerant towards prospectors and entrepreneurs(for most of the time; later foreigners were taxed) and that anti-expansionist ideas were advanced under peoples in South Africa, spawned a desire by all the foreigners and citizens in the republics to defend their piece of land against Imperial Britain.
The foreign volunteers amounted to a small number, but a friend in need is a friend indeed. You can still find various monuments built for the volunteers and various volunteer leaders were praised directly after the war. One of the most famous volunteers was John Blake.
That's my case. This is a game, we need not assimilate culture. We form a common bond through deeds, not words. The Macedonians are eSaffers because they've fought alongside us for quite some time and the Swedes as well(and there are rumors that Rico's ape family came from here)...oh and 'Muricans - yeah well, everyone's already American, some of us are just undocumented Americans.

I really like seeing articles in Afrikaans, but shunning players just because they don't understand a language isn't cool.
Die Afrikaans sprekendes is maar seker die minderheid hier.
Why not just post articles, if you are able to, in both languages?
Goeie punt. Multilingual articles are written in many other ecountries.
I love seeing Afrikaans posted. I try to understand it and enjoy the language.
Thanks for the info
muchas gracias y de nada 🙂
Great article Wil, I had no idea about this and actually want to learn and appreciate SA's history more
I don't want to start anything here, but I think it is important to mention that when Piet came out with his afrikaans writings, he never shunned anybody that didn't understand afrikaans, and I believe it was also not his intention. There were however some people who don't understand afrikaans who reacted negatively to Piet's writing, which I believe is not right. In a lot of other EREP countries you will see people using different languages. I used to play EREP for a number of years (under my real life name) before closing my profile because I simply didn't have the time. In those days I had a wonderful relationship with people from (real life) all over the world, some of them are still around, like Jizzie, Rico Suave and some others.
If I remember correctly Wilpanzer himself was one.
If we want to rebuild ESA to its former glory (and we can) we all need to take hands and be bigger than small issues like language etc. Let's stand together as one, once more and form a united power to get ESA a winning country again.
He did come out and say he votes for people based on RL nationality and that "We need to take our country back.". Sounds like a certain Austrian fellow I know.
Considering how much of this country is not native RL South Africa and how much we have all done for this country, regardless of RL nationality, this guy just ends up sounding like a bigot.
If you consider that America is mostly run by RL Americans, Sweden is run by RL Swedes, Macedonia is run by RL Macedonians...?
Absolutely. I had no problems with his Afrikaans articles. I came to this ecountry to experience a different culture so I appreciate it. I don't appreciate him saying that we suck and are not worthy of running this country.
Hi Claudio
All my articles are still online, please show me where I say you suck and are not capable of running the country. No this is not in my articles.
In Fact I have been insulted by Marmeduke several times and have not returned the favor, its not his fault he does not understand where my people or where they come from.
My articles are all addressed to the little of my people that are left, with the exception of the one which is clearly placed under the entertainment category. I have only translated some of my articles at the request of the president and have never tried to alienate anybody, however some people are scared of South African nationalism, just like South Africans feel threatened by the current foreign domination. It's probably only understandable.
I am just trying to unite the little of my people that are left and to ensure that we do not lose more new joiners who can’t associate with E-South Africa in its current state.
To make e-South Africa more South African
That's fair, and yes, you can disregard Marmaduke. He'll always give you grief.
I took exception to this line: "It's a crying shame that there isn’t a single South African candidate to vote for in the South African election. We need to stand together to ensure that this never happens again. We need to take our country back."
We just came back from a RL South African CP. In fact, 50% of our last 6 CP's have been RL SA. Miyagiyoda twice, Grimstone Twice. For being a small community you are fairly well represented, but if you ACTUALLY want to get South Africans running your country, go out and get some RL South African friends to play the game!
I thought it was pronounced "merkins" 😁
I've seen " 'Murica" all over the internet, but you may be right.
Naah, merkins is probably only from George W Bush's enunciations... The "War on Tourism"... And, "My Fellow Merkins".
