Welcome to Movie Night at Red River Depot

Now that the weather's warming up, it's great to bring our families in for free movies under the stars.
Everyone's welcome-- bring a couple blankets and lawn chairs, pack in your picnic dinner and snacks, and please be sure to police your area when you leave.

I know those long dry spells between fight orders can be a real drag, or maybe you just like to multi-task and socialize during the show, so you might want to put the film in a separate browser window and size it down so you can have IRC and the game in another window.

We'll start things off with a classic Disney 1942 propaganda cartoon short, in which Donald Duck has a nightmare that he lives in Germany slaving under the Nazi regime, Der Fuhrer's Face.

Next, in the first of our double feature, The East Side Kids discover that one of their own, Danny, is torn between staying in school and becoming a boxer, and is getting mixed up with gangsters.
From 1941, introducing Huntz Hall, Bowery Blitzkreig.

Hopefully, the kids have all drifted off to sleep by now, and we can settle in for some real adventure and espionage.
Blood On The Sun, the 1945 James Cagney classic, is set in pre-war Japan. Nick Condon is a newspaper reporter working in Tokyo who refuses to toe the Japanese line on the expansionist policies of the anti-democratic Imperialist government. When it become clear to the authorities that Condon isn't going to cooperate and that he has some valuable information and contacts, they decide to get him in their clutches for some interrogations and then dispose of him.

Alternate screening is lower quality but has no commercials.

Without giving away the story... the street scene at the end of the movie, which takes place in Tokyo, is the very same street where Harry Lime was shot in The Third Man... in Vienna.

The Army Public Affairs Office and the Army Times will present Movie Night every Wednesday, featuring public domain movies available free on the internet.

eRepublik and the Army Public Affairs Office are not responsible for and do not endorse any products which may be advertised in conjunction with the presentation of these externally linked videos.

We invite you to send your own suggestions for films we might present-- please do the legwork and be sure the film is free, and send us the links. If we run the films you suggest, we'll give you credit and maybe even a prize!

If you haven't already done so, please vote up the previous edition of this paper!
