Surviving eBedlam

Day 994, 11:43 Published in Japan Japan by Shinybluepope

Shit has hit the fan so I thought I would provide some tips to all of you less active players out there on how to find a way to enjoy this game a little more till the admins finally fix things. Just because there are ads are waiting to steal your gold, no battles, and no one knows what exactly is going on does not mean you cannot have fun. So, here are my suggestions to jump up on the fun train and crash it smack dab into "frolicking and skipping all up in this shit" land.

As pretty much all of you know or should know , eRepublik kind of fell into chaos about a week ago due to the activities of a hacker that decided he/she would screw over a lot of citizens, their countries, and their gold accounts because he/she was missing the good ol' days of V1. The hacker seems to still be running amok so eRep will conceivably be screwy for the foreseeable future.

Our admins. They could use some help.

Now that eRepublik is on the fritz and activity in game has dropped significantly due to people being unable or too afraid/bored to mess with their accounts much, I thought it would be a good time to try nudging some of you folks into other areas the eJapanese community hangs out in. This game is more about community and interaction than anything else so, if eRep itself is down, it would be a great time for you to discover the rest of what this game actually entails. Besides, knowing people in the community will help you get into organizations such as the emilitary or eCongress, which will allow you to gain more experience than the average Joe.

eJapan's Forums

For you guys just recently arriving or popping into existence for the first time in eJapan, make a quick stop at the welcoming hall and learn a bit about the game and the structure of the eJapanese government. Remember to register with the forums themselves.

Once you look around the forums a bit, sign up with a party, both in eRep and in the forums. You will have to sign up to the forums to be able to view the Governments and Politics section to then be able to click the Political Parties subsection. If you sign up to your party on the forums and learn about the party you join, you will be able to learn a bit about the goals of your party, who is a member on the forums, and so on. The forums provide more structure for the party and avenues through which you can become more active (in theory) in your party.

Start a Newspaper

Once you look around the forums for a bit, you might also want to start a newspaper and publish some articles. A lot of people do not believe it is worth the 2g to create one but I personally feel it was the best investment I made in this game. Through your newspaper, not only will you be able to reach out to a number of people instantly, you will be able to create something quickly and easily in this game. It can be quite fun using the text of your newspaper to create a kind of lens through which to view eRep, which can increase your enjoyment of the game.

This is a game heavily reliant on text so you will need to use your imagination. Just do not get lost in your creations.

Be prepared to have some people make some nasty comments from time to time. Just ignore it or piss them off more, whatever your style is, and take what constructive criticism there is and improve your work slowly. Here is a tutorial on in game messaging that contains BBCode that applies to our eRep newspapers as well.

eSocial Events and General Interaction

eJapan also has several cultural events that are quite fun and could use more activity. They may not seem interesting at the moment because activity is low but the more people participate, the more fun it will be.

Finally, there is irc. I personally am not fond of chatting online but some people seem to think it rocks their socks off. You can find a tutorial on how to use irc here .

If you take a more active role in the community and maybe meet some folks, trust me, you will have a little more fun with the game. Who knows when the admins will be able to fix the chaos that has engulfed us all. You may as well give all these suggestions a go.

Some words of encouragement. Now get out there and show us what you got!

PS: It would seem that even though images are now working in erep, that is not the case for things like font sizes or in-article reference links (not sure what these are officially called). Once they work, I'll use 'em to break down this longish article.
