Elitism - our only option

Day 2,000, 12:02 Published in Norway Norway by T Cherub

While the term "Elitism" might sound a bit negative, I am afraid we need to consider our options seeing how eRepublik is being govern by the game owners.

We now know that we can not trust the game admins helping us if some selfish president decides to back-stab us like Bob Turkee/Damien or the Croatian player Back from Valhalla. We were naive and thought our savings would be safe and something we could trust would help us in the months to come. Now we are dead broke.

The fact that 1 single player can do this type of damage to en entire eNation and our gaming community tells me one thing. We need to embrace elitism. This means we will not let just "anyone" become president. Even for a small and barely active nation like eNorway, getting the wrong president spells disaster. We will simply have to limit our options to just the few players we trust 100%. Can we trust Norwegians? Left-Wing-Socialist Bob showed us we can't, so even if a candidate is Norwegian and veteran doesn't necessarily prove allegiance to the community. It hurts to admit it, but sometimes we can't even trust our own countrymen.

We can always try to keep the valuables inside the country treasure, but money was stolen from country treasure before, without any help from admins. The way the game is designed right now, we can only trust a small set of elite players, and while that is devastating for new and aspiring players, it is the hard facts.

Another thing we could opt for is setting aside valuables to certain players we trust. Players we trust will not abuse the assets for their personal gain - essentially volunteer bankers. Obviously, only elite players.

Will this damage our community and our gameplay? Will this discourage new players knowing we will never let them become president without spending years building trust and loyalty? Probably.

Maybe some day, the game designers will understand how potentially bad it is when 1 player can break a nations economy, and how pathetic it is to blame the players who vouched and supported this player, not having the faintest idea he or she would turn out to be a bad seed. I would rather see us bringing up new players to the political scene, and I would love to support new and young presidents taking reign and aspire to become great players in politics, but the way the game is designed now, we simply can't support it. We risk everything!

A well know and respected player, Romper, told me to stay CP forever, but who wants that? I simply can't and wouldn't be a good CP month after month. The only thing you could be sure of, I would never steal from the community or go power-monger. I know a handful of players like that, several of them in Norway. Having said that, in order to keep a long-term plan for eNorway, we simply have to live with only allowing trustworthy players become presidents. I recent the idea, but unless we can think of something better, we will get ripped off over and over again. I know a lot of players have invested time and real money on building a viable eNorway, so I can imagine the frustration of seeing our savings lost. Sure, we were lazy and let these bad players get in power - it's our fault by design.

Let's just acknowledge - we only have elitism left as our final weapon against the current game design. It sucks, but history proves it. Needless to say, I will be available for CP elections only to preserve your trust in long-term sustainable community.
