CP article Day 2
moomoohead
I saw a show on RTE where they used DNA evidence to identify where the original inhabitants of Ireland came from. Apparently a very long time ago a Ice age made the island inhabitable. When the Ice melted no one lived there for about 100,000 years but people did make it to the UK this time. Then the first Irish came from the Bask region of span. They also found DNA from waves of invasions from Vikings, Normans, and English.
Well this game is similar to real life. The first Irish were a group of Spanish Players in November 2007. Other groups came during this time like Snake and his friends from another game. The game was a lot different then, concentrating on economic and election modules. War was not introduced at first. If you look at your oldest friend, then look at there person first friend, etc you will end up on a DNA trail back to the earliest players of this game. Hattrick pictured below was our first CP. He moved back to Spain and was alive for years afterwards till he got permanently banned. The first native born eIrish player was named Paddy and last a few weeks. This was the end of the Celtic tiger and he must of not had the time to play games.
Flaco is the only person left playing from this time. I will drop him a PM maybe he can add to this in the comments. Happy belated Cinco de Mayo mate.
5 Quick Questions with RK/ Releasethe Krakken
RK is one of the most interesting people in this game and one of the persons I would probably most likely want to have a beer with
1.There is a term in Ireland MAD MAN MIC, you seem to take up that personality in this game, are you the same in RL as you are in this game?
i dont know what the term means if you mean i debate lot. yeah certainly that comes from my previous online game where i debated in their global forum with a college professor and the creator of Hellstromm the comic. Not certain which one though.
2. You have to be the most prolific writer in eRepublik, what motivates you to crank out so many?
boredom and i like to put ideas in writing so that they are not forgotten. and 1 part of our family (far off)branched into newspapers and made a great success with it. according to my uncle they were always tinkering with small newspapers etc. so perhaps heriditary on my father's side.
3. You live in south Africa in RL, why did you start playing in Ireland so many years ago?
i found the history fascinating at that time there were shown films like in the name of the father about bobby sands(daniel day lewis) and the bull about a domineering father and his son in ireland. also most south africans are not really the same people. we hold holiday in british settler country which is more english charm etc. but can also be very wealthy people from johannesburg commonly called the transvalers earlier on. also in hindsight south africa is totally isolated and borders a grey african continent.
4. You seem to be determined to be the first self made eBillionair in this game, how many companies in your massive Corporation?
i will send you a screenshot. not many i am selling off most of my 8500 companies as i am going full gold now meaning only 35 gold companies.
5. I know it is winter in your part of the world but tell us about your garden and what you grow in South Africa?
garden was not as successful will have to do other experiments and invest more time and money in my setup(tomatoes) and combatting weeds. so probably was thinking of building smaller greenhouses with plastic and eliminating all weeds. for winter i planted some peas but weeds are still alive. was building some smaller coops in my large chicken coops with metal and have improved my metal skills considerable will do it over time. it is hard work and i decided to take a break from "extra work" so might just switch off completely and hibernate this winter. south africa have a different winter it is more cold winds and it gets down to your bones. plus we are not winter people really. my winter clothing are probably 6 to 7 years old.
Get to know each other How much does a pint cost in your local
Get to know each other price of a pint in your local
When you ask an Irish person about a foreign Holiday and you say “was it expensive over there” you always get the same answer. They will quote to the pence what a pint of beer was where they traveled. You will get some thing like “OH jess that is a dear wee hole it cost 7.42 euros for a pint”. Americans might have the official Big Mac Index the Irish got the unofficial world cost of living Pint of beer index.
I drink at three local bars. Mostly meet up with the same friends to watch football on Sunday. All the pubs let me run a tab so I do not pay attention to the cost of a pint. I bring my young lad with me for the last few years and he drinks strawberry lemonade. The things cost about $6.00 a piece because they put pieces of strawberry in them, which kills me a little bit but I do not say it to him. When we do shots the bar tender pours apple juice for him and he thinks he is a big man. I pay about $4.00 for a pint, and drink cheaper beer. Post in the comments what a pint cost in your favorite spot or where you like to have a drink.
Weekly Bit of Fun Three Truths and a Lie
This will be a weekly game. See if you can pick the one lie about me from four items below. Put your answer in comments or add your own three truths and a lie in comments. This week will be travel version.
1.I have met four world leaders, and one I did not know he was the president of that country when I shook his hand
2.I was arrested in red square for impersonating a navy officer because I bought a sailor’s hat as a souvenir
3.I rode a camel in Sahara desert with a bedowan as a guide
4.I plan to go on a boys holiday to try gold mining in six weeks
Comments
Really? I had no idea that the closest irish dna match is with the basques. That may explain why I´ve always felt at home here 😛
It´s hard to guess the lie, but I think I´ll go with the second one. It woudln´t be the first misunderstanding I see with their police due to the language barrier, but the sailor´s hat has to be too much 😃
And thanks for the History lesson. It´s great to know about how was Ireland long before most of us arrived here.
I don't go to bars/pubs and I don't drink alcoholic beverages so I don't know the price of a pint.
My first thought was number 2 is a lie.
I enjoy different types of articles and history lessons. It's fun.
I rarely drink alcohol, usually on occasions when I am invited, so I don't know the price.
Number two appears to be the lie for me too.
0.5l of some decent local beer is about 1.5-2 euro in a pub. Bottled beer in a store or mall you can buy for 0.7 euro. Poltava, Ukraine.
Hattrick, talked to him once.
Drink depends which local I go to.
1. In the more young rock music vibe pub, generally drink a pint bottle of McArdles which is old fashioned Irish Ale, get it for €5 a bottle. It's the cheapest beer on offer, does things to your inside and is always in stock as only 5 of people drink it in the pub, me and 3 friends plus a random aul fella.
2. In the old man and more traditional pub I'd drink a pint of Guinness for €5.20 or a pint of Smithwicks for €5.50. Think most non Irish know Smithwicks as Kilkenny Beer?
3. If I'm on a night out past the local pubs I'd generally opt for a lager, most commonly Heineken as it's light and less likely to make me pass gas or smell. Makes me more less attractive to the ladies you see. Depending on where you go, this can be for as cheap as €5.70 and up to €6.50... Dublin is not cheap for drink at all and it's only going to get worse as we are bringing in Minimum Pricing for alcohol so all the cheap booze we could drink at home will be gone.
we have 340 ml and a quart which is 750 ml. rarely have true pints. but ok 340ml in licquor story is around 9 rand or 0.60 cheapest quart is 0.66 euro. you wont get a quart really in a pub but guess a beer would be close to 1 euro now. pint would be therefore 1euro 47 probably 3 euro in the cities. south africa started the second largest or largest beer company in the world sab whom sold snow beer in china at some time and as well bought some us brands like miller. my favorite south african(* probably british in origin) is carling black label we call it a railway coke and as a joke a black label drinker will say 10 million miners cant be wrong. but i rarely drink anymore since i quit coke brandy was not the same and the other drinks make me light headed so basically quit.
as to oldest players nogin the nog played beta and is still around 🙂
1 is the lie probably
There are very few of us left from the beginning. Most players in 2007/2008 were from Spain, Turkey, Sweden, Romania, or the USA. I think thats all they could afford to advertise in.
I started lookiing over my friends list and most of them are dead now. So many good times.
Manly tear.
Yeah, you are not alone 😉
Since my native country was wiped when I signed up, I started out in eIreland too....
hi moo, still keeping the lights on here I see. I won't be back but it just crossed my mind to have a quick check to see how things are here, was expecting the game to no longer exist tbh. happy to see you're still the same as ever. best of luck moo, might check back in another couple of years. have fun.
