Hunter the Hammer
Hello everyone,
First of all, thank you to everyone who posted comments on my previous article.
Debating ideas is great, for it gives every citizen more of a say in the way eIsrael is run.
And that is how problems are solved.
To recap the previous article, I proposed the eIDF become 4 separate MUs, one per division, and have them be available for hire as mercenaries, selling their damage.
This idea was proposed to help balance our budget and afford supplies for our soldiers.
But, as noted by the comments, it needs changes.
Most think of this as a radical change, and rightfully so.
The biggest concern I saw was about our allies.
People were concerned that our allies would not support us if they needed to pay for our services.
This got me thinking.
I propose that if a country is an ally, they get full access to the mercenary MU.
If they are not, then they must pay to get the damage.
Countries would pay because we would offer competitive prices based on other, larger mercenary MUs.
We would offer a price that would be so great, other countries would buy our damage.
Another concern I heard was the fact that people didn't want to break up the eIDF.
Why not keep a much smaller eIDF, but also have one mercenary MU, and have it be open to anybody who wants to join, instead of forcing everyone to join.
This one mercenary MU would act the same way as I proposed before, but with a few changes.
One, all divisions would be included, not one for each division.
Two, supplies would be given out based on damage, not an equal share.
Basically, someone would post their damage total, and a formula would calculate how many weapons they would get.
Finally, instead of people getting money as well as supplies, 75% of the money earned from us being hired would be saved for supplies, while the other 25% would go back to eIsrael's government.
Please please please let me know what you think about these changes in the comments below.
Debate helps eIsrael become a great country.
Thank you all,
Hunter

We have a mercenary MU: Samson.
We have a national army: eIDF.
Citizens join either on their own free will and are not forced into either.
I still don't see how minimalizing the eIDF will accomplish anything, short of weakening healthy competition and overall damage. Divided, a mercenary unit's damage will be so low, no one would care to buy it.
We already have the Special Forces of the eIDF - the Sayeret Matkal, which puts together our best damage dealers in the country.
As for supplies, cut them to the bare minimum, mainly food. Easily implemented, no division or radicalization required, the state prospers.
Xeno,
I agree with you besides the first statement: "there is" a mercenary MU: Samson not "we have"
Hunter - you are still missing any logic in your economic argument:
If Israeli players are fighting for money instead of fighting for EDEN (and even against if you go a bit further) why would our allies trust us?
How would a single MU (it's called IDF in RL) fighting for the country and its policy adjusting spending based on revenues is not the only logical approach?
What I suggested in this article is keeping a smaller eIDF, but growing our mercenary efforts.
What I am responding to is our economic concerns.
Do we completely disband the eIDF?
I realize, after reading everyone's feedback, that that option is wrong.
But do we grow our mercenary efforts,
Yes.
I am not fully aware how Samson is currently economically independent.
Since I started playing, Samson was relying on the government for supplies.
What I'm seeing everyone say is
that we need a national unit so we can continue to support our allies.
I agree with this,
But it needs to be downsized.
Having the eIDF being a massive MU we can't afford is wrong.
If we could afford it, this would never have happened.
What I'm trying to do is find answers to the question,
"How do we balance our budget, keep our allies supported, and give supplies to our troops."
If you have, in your opinion, a better solution,
Please PM me so I can interview you.

Creating a mercenary unit could be an interesting idea...
It can make that unit more productive if its members recieve supplies based on their damage, but it also could be a huge mess to deal with all the screen images, both to the leader/s of that unit and for its members. I think using the "Fights yesterday" section in the unit's page could be easier (But it has to be done daily of course).
eIsrael could earn money through that merceary unit, and expand the eIDF back when it can.
Another potential source of revenue is donations. Who is in charge of donations? Perhaps that person can also be the one who handles donated congress medals. Or else, I can just give it to the MoD or the commander of my MU.
Advertise it; I think people are also willing to give from their own free will. I don't mind giving some of my first fruits to help once in a while.
Another idea i have is the adopt-a-soldier program. A coordinator, which can be the MoD or the commander or captains of a MU matches a self-reliant player with a needy one. The self-reliant player will then take care of that citizen's needs. Any conflicts can be resolved with the coordinator or the MoD. Participation in the program is voluntary.
The program is voluntary,
Also, instead of doing screen grabs, I would have each soldier enter their damage total on a public google doc, so I could use formulas to calculate the cost to buy the damage.
And the google doc would calculate how many supplies each soldier gets.
I do like the adopt a soldier program,
I will talk this over with some higher ups about starting the MU,
If you are interested in joining, please PM me,
There will be an article if I make it, so check back!
I'll be the first to volunteer! I can only give out Q2 or Q1 weapons though, but it will be a buffet.
