All We Need

Day 1,014, 07:11 Published in USA USA by Chocolate McSkittles

It's no secret that eRepublik exists because of three things: Nationalism, Community, and Culture. We go to war to defend our national honor. We lick our wounds with our friends, we share our victories with our allies. Be it via forums, irc, skype, etc, we have built a vibrant community and culture with eRepublik.

Then came...V2. Apparently we needed something flashier. Something that could attract the "Flash Gamer" crowd. But wait! This is expensive, we'll need a new revenue source. Lana. Boosters. Treasure maps. Health Packs. A trend was established, a mantra that the developers hoped to instill in the minds of players.

Fight for your country with your wallet.

In times past, eRepublik was like a sandbox, a skeleton of a game. The "children" saw it for what it was. Potential. The children began to build vast empires and a culture of their own, terminologies and social structures. Gods and demons alike were born and they clashed in epic battle.

They took a skeleton and added flesh, so that it may come to life.

Then, the "grownups" decided we needed a slide so that more children will come to play at the park. A swingset. Monkey bars. Oh dear! This is getting expensive, we need to add an entrance fee!

And while the grownups were building their park, the children began to lament, "Why would we pay to go to the park when there's a swingset taking up all of the space in the sandbox?"

As time progressed the park began to decay because no children were willing to pay to visit the park, and the adults looked at their creation with dismay. Steps to the top of the slide were missing. Chains from the swing-sets gone. What was once beautiful was now empty and meaningless.

"All we needed was sand."

I believe in the sun, even though it is slow in rising.
I believe in you, without realizing.
I believe in rain, though there are no clouds in the sky.
I believe in truth, even though people lie.
I believe in peace, though sometimes I am violent.
I believe in Dio Brando, even though he is silent.
