7 things I think I think

7 Things I think I think

I've never been one to have a fancy intro, I've tried it a few times but it just wasn't for me. So there's no fancy graphics or reading music. These are just some thoughts I've had over the last oh...few months or so seeing whats going on around me here in the game.

1. Stop telling people you've been here since X

In nearly every article I've seen lately, it usually goes on about how someone has been here since X amount of days which means they somehow know more than the average player. Does it really matter? For example and in breaking my own rule here I've been here since October 2008. I remember when I had to wait a month because invites had all been given up and it was still in beta, I think ThisGenMedia was President and Mayors had just stopped being a thing. Doesn't make me gods gift to Erepublik. You either want to look relate-able to the small trickle of new people joining or you want to look arrogant and look like you know more than them.

2. Stop complaining about the Meta

The meta has always been terrible, take it from someone who has been there a few times. I was Cabinet once (Smile Squad, President Evry), Congress 6 Terms for the AMP, 1 term as SCI, its always been like this. You of course have some options, as the average player you can vote people out but it will never happen for the same reasons as RL. You get conditioned to believe that that by voting for the same people continuously that they will suddenly change their behavior. It isn't going to happen. You hope that by supporting change in your political parties you will see change, it also isn't happening on a large enough scale and its often the people who have fallen out of favor that month suddenly yearning for the change.

The people who have also been President/Dictator over the last year aside from I think 1 or 2 people have also left and come back to fawning praise as if they were Caesar returning from conquest. These are also the same people complaining about the lack of people. I wonder why.

3. Stop complaining about the EUS Forums

If you don't like them, either don't go or make new forums. It isn't that hard. If you really want to elect a new Congress, make a new forum and do it. If you're not going to do the leg work but just sit back and complain every month then I invite you to join Nationstates where such discussions happen roughly once a month just like here.

4. Stop with the Public Enemy #1 Bullcrap

Since I've been here there's been Ajay, then CG, then Oblige, then CG again, back to Ajay, then Ben Dover, then the Serbs, then Ajay, etc. You get to a point where you feel like you're in a movie. You have people in your ear like Fahrenheit 451 telling you to be afraid of the movie monster of the week. Yeah, we all get it. Ajay is terrible, CG is an opportunist and manipulator, Dover was a terrible President, Oblige did X to you this week, the Serbs are terrible. I mean, this is a game. It's supposed to not be cookie cutter, its supposed to be like this, like RL a bit. You want the game to be active and people to come but you cut the chaos theory out at the knees and want people to do what exactly? This isn't Erep just for you which leads me to...

5. Stop dumping on the game

Is the game bad? I mean its a lot more colorful? Than it used to be. I never dabbled in the economics side but I did a bit in the military side. It could always be better but then again it could always be worse. I've worked as an Administrator in games centered on politics, still on forums which hasn't changed since the early 00's and I can tell you that you are darned if you do and darned if you don't. Imagine how many people would be here if we were all still Field Marshals, I probably wouldn't be. What about if we didn't have MUs or Milita's? It gets lonely fighting by yourself.

I unfortunately unlike one player don't put Alex Bonte, the owner of the company on Blast then get responses from him. Is he responsible ultimately? Yes he is, has he held summits with players to talk about potential changes? Yes he has. Were they all implemented? I would like to think some were. Change, like with Congress above is slow. People are dumping on Erep Labs and Mr. Bonte and claiming that he is the specter with the scythe to strike down an inactive game, I tell you to wait until a country closes, then you can stand back and blame Mr. Bonte for running an inactive game. Until then, you're just spitting into the wind.

6. Start with outreach again

One of the things I absolutely loved, loved passionately I might add was people running for office sending out mailers to people. When I ran, I messaged 200 people by hand with a form letter of which 3 people replied telling me to work on it. I was embarrassed but I knew they had read my stuff. Today, we have nothing. I think in the last month I've gotten 2 messages, both from CG regarding his grand plan and his article. I read them all, even If I don't agree with it because that's how you learn. Newspapers are cool, As you can see I am a big user of my paper here, ha ha. But I don't think that they achieve the same personal touch as a private message does. I really do miss the days that the President, PP, Cabinet, or just the average schlub running for office sent you something in the mail. I'd like to see that kind of outreach again.

7. What is the deal with IRC

Back when things were jumping around here, IRC was the spot. Now from what I see and have read it is dead. Even my old stomping grounds, the National Guard chat is dead. Did we all move to Telegram or Discord? Can someone fill me in on where we've all gone? I'd like to see my friends again and I know their still active out there somewhere.

So these were my 7 thoughts, Its cool if you don't agree with me on them but if you want to add a comment or something that would be fine. If you wanna argue with me or tell me I'm wrong, hey that's fine too if I'm wrong then I'm wrong.

Thanks for reading.
