[Sterben4kk] How Would you monetize eRepublik? - I want your opinion
Sterben4kk
Greetings everyone.
I bring here a discussion that has always left me wondering...
(As a way to help me for a project.)
How would you monetize eRepublik?
This game has changed a lot since it first came out over a decade ago.
What could have been an immersive and complex browser MMORPG has fallen short and was dumbed down through the years. The focus changed more and more to the field of battle, and so did the monetization. I'm not complaining about this. The developers and the managers found a recipe that worked and was easy to monetize, and they must make profit.
However, this monetization is not user friendly. Before, you could buy Gold, which would help you a lot in developing you account, with strengh, training fields, companies. While Pay 2 Win (P2W) nonetheless, it was less evasive and more understandable.
However, with the military field on this game becoming more and more prevalent, the current Pack module emerged and evolved.
Now there are packs that are more or less worhtless to packs that are almost necessary for any tank who wants to call himself as such.
Without the exitence of this Packs, the game would be slower, more packed around the colaboration on soldiers (or bots and clones, don't care) and not on the shoulders of colossaly powerful tanks.
It scares newbies, poorer people and those who simply want to have a free experience.
What could eRepublik Labs, or anyone in a similar way, do it?
There are several options (all similar but with different degrees of interference) that come to my min
😛
-Donations, similar to those of Twitch (I guess), where you'd have access to some extra stuff, like new, exclusive, emojis, a decoration on your profile or something that would set you out from the pleb.
-Selling skins for your tank or airplanes, or effects you could give others on the Battlefield and everyone would see. (Prestige, I guess)
-Premium Subscription that would add some easier features to the Premium Players but that wouldn't actually give them any upper hand on the battlefield, but would make things a little easier.
-Expansions? Because, why not. Why not create some simple story modes and expansions, with stretegy and RPG elements? Would give this game a different experience, while retaining the core MMO with Geopolitical strategy.
Comments
Paid sponsorship visible in the game.
Just imagine things like:
- Market place interface looking like Amazon.
- Training facilities renamed to things like Nike Sports Center
- Q5 food looking like Big Macs.
- Swedish flag replaced by IKEA logo.
Wow, that would be very good and not invasive at all.
I liked particurarly of the idea to replace your countries flag 😃
That is a good idea, but the type of game and the execution matters a lot.
For a game that tries to simulate an economy, what zzzingo said makes perfect sense.
But if your game is in the medieval period, or its a fantasy world or whatever, that would probably not work.
> Donations, similar to those of Twitch (I guess), where you'd have access to some extra stuff, like new, exclusive, emojis, a decoration on your profile or something that would set you out from the pleb.
No, because it will make this game look kinda stupid in the way similar design changes made Mixer unwatchable without Clopoyaur.
INSTEA😨 packs' marked. No scam anymore, and more packs being bought because of knowing there definitely will be a buyer.
> Selling skins for your tank or airplanes, or effects you could give others on the Battlefield and everyone would see. (Prestige, I guess)
Selling skins would be a nice thing to do, but technically useful effects will make this game even more pay-to-win based, and cosmetical effects will just make it more like Mixer. So skins would be a thing, effects, nor technically useful, nor cosmetical - wouldn't.
> Premium Subscription that would add some easier features to the Premium Players but that wouldn't actually give them any upper hand on the battlefield, but would make things a little easier.
Something like... scripts? )
Some time ago it could be a thing, but not anymore. Players are doing their best to improve this game and the gaming expirience. Make them pay for it and you'll be deservedly abandoned.
> Expansions? Because, why not. Why not create some simple story modes and expansions, with stretegy and RPG elements? Would give this game a different experience, while retaining the core MMO with Geopolitical strategy.
Just no. Too much effort (so called "people-hours") has to be spent, and too small amount of players would be willing to spend their money.
INSTEA😨 This effort should be better used to finally FIX THE F*ING ECONOMY MODE! Come on, some medals give you less money than you get from just clicking on "Work" battle. Political mode also needs some technical improvements, more management opportunities for party members to make it mechanically developed at least on the same level as the MU's management is. Oh, come on, MU can have it's treasury, but a party - can't? There's really much what can be done, but admins should look for these things, not the players willing to save this game.
After all, are you kidding me, Plato? That's your project, YOU need these sheeps to play this game and give YOU YOUR revenue! That's hillarious: what a great fanbase this game has! So much people are playing this game through decades, so much people are counting how much money does Plato get from packs, is it enough for him to get a revenue, and these players are wishing this game to develop and trying to find possible ways to improve it. How could you NOT make it sensibly better since so many years ago?!
Yup. This game has so much unused potential and a, IMO, bad revenue model.
But people like me... pay and play all the same. Like you said. Sheep. I'm one of those...
Welp, I used the "sheeps"-word ironically. We're players who're aware their game's developers need to make money to provide us more game expirience. And this kind of game community is really useful for Plato, but he shouldn't think that our pockets of patience are infinite. Many of us are already leaving gradually.
Voted! I'm not interested in paying to play eRepublik. Best regards!
your english is bery much Fofinhu and also bery well estruturado!!! I liked, carailh0! Congratulations!
