[SC] Good riddance CTRL! Thank you Brazil! Thank you USA!

The first country to reject the so called CTRL alliance (Poland + Spain + Brazil + the USA) was Brazil. Two days later, the Americans also announced they are pulling out (see the official articles here and here).

Since the Americans mention the involvement of EDEN’s HQ into that process, it is time to inform the EDEN citizens at large about what we did. The Country Presidents and Ministries of Foreign affairs had been already briefed last Sunday and last Thursday respectively, during the regular weekly meetings EDEN holds.

At EDEN HQ we were sure that the true intentions of Poland and Spain were to drag the USA and Brazil into ONE.

We also knew that most of the Brazilians and most of the Americans would abhor being duped into joining ONE. What we were not very sure about was if the governments of Brazil and the USA were aware of Poland and Spain’s true intentions.

So the only thing we could reasonably do was to make sure they have no doubt about what was really going on. If after being fully aware, they would have still pressed on, so be it! However we really doubted they would actually fall for the Polish-Spanish ploy once it would have been fully exposed.

The game

I contacted the American president Evry, right after he had been elected, and invited him to a meeting with the EDEN HQ.

During that meeting, I expressed our concerns that Poland and Spain are not really honest about their intentions. I also added that if the USA and Brazil would succeed in convincing Spain and Poland to abandon their MPPs with the rest of the ONE countries, then we were convinced that EDEN and the new alliance would be able to come to terms.

Evry seemed to like the idea of a peaceful coexistence and eagerly suggested we should meet again, this time with Brazil, Poland and Spain present. We of course gladly accepted. From our point of view, the outcome of that meeting could be one of the following:

1) Spain and Poland would refuse to leave ONE, in which case neither the American nor the Brazilian government would have had any doubts about the honesty of the Polish and Spanish offer;

2) Spain and Poland would accept to leave ONE, abandoning Serbia, Hungary and FYROM to their grim fate.

We judged the second outcome highly unlikely. We had little faith in the honesty of Poland and Spain therefore we never truly entertained the idea they would leave ONE.

Our only concern was about what would happen if the American and the Brazilian governments would decide to join ONE against the will of the American and Brazilian players. That was also quite unlikely, but not impossible.

Gems of Spanish and Polish self-defeating diplomacy

The meeting with Poland, Spain, USA and Brazil went as expected.
The Spanish president kept insulting the Portuguese and indirectly the HQ member Lucifel, who is Portuguese, and making absurd demands about EDEN abandoning Portugal.

Prior to the meeting I had watched the Spanish president singing on Youtube, so I knew he was almost a child and therefore he would be quite unable to play his cards right. As an aside, whenever negotiating, try to know as much as possible not only about the matter at hand but also about who the other person it. It might prove useful.

The Polish president was much more skilled at avoiding to answer the direct question about cutting his country’s ties with Hungary and Serbia. He held on better than the Spaniard but in the end it became clear that Poland has no real intention to quit ONE either.

We left the meeting satisfied that now both the Americans and the Brazilians were fully aware about the trap carefully crafted by Spain and Poland.
We informed the EDEN presidents about the content of the talks and urged them to use all their contacts in the USA and Brazil to explain to their friends there what the true Spanish and Polish intentions were.

Then we had a very lucky break: Smee again got his hands on a secret log, in which the Polish and the Spanish presidents were spelling out the whole plan to dupe Brazil and USA and were encouraging Serbia and Hungary to start their own direct talks with the two former Terra members.

That log made us happy for two reasons:

1) It served to confirm that indeed Spain and Poland had no intention to quit ONE and that their plan had been from the very beginning into fooling USA and Brazil into burning their bridges with EDEN and Terra. Since the logs have surfaced after the meeting, it was easy for our Brazilian and American friends to realize they were genuine;

2) The idea the Polish president had, that Serbia and Hungary should contact directly the USA and Brazil was so monumentally stupid that, had it been put into practice, it would have been in itself enough to destroy the projected alliance.

The Serbian and Hungarian diplomats can’t be trusted to tie their shoelaces right. Having such guys contact the Americans and the Brazilians, who were adamant they want to stay as far as possible from Serbia and Hungary, would have been the pinnacle of recklessness.

So Prophet009 wasn’t too different from the other products of the Polish diplomatic school after all: smooth talker but utterly deprived of any foresight and realism.

Never use lubricant where a fistful of gravel would do just fine
By the time we had our weekly MoFA meeting on Thursday, it was clear CTRL was dead, only no coroner had yet issued the death certificate.

We only had half of the death certificate, signed by the Brazilian government, who stated they have no intention to betray their long term friends and allies. So we reiterated the need for our MoFAs to use all their contacts in America and Brazil in order to make sure CTRL not only is dead, but it is also cremated and blown into the four winds.

Our American friends and allies did the honors of pulverizing CTRL when they showed the middle finger to the projected "alliance of selfish countries aka "we have 10/10, cry my a river"" (Congrats, Prophet009, you really have a way with words!).

So, ladies and gentlemen, now we will really have a very interesting month of July, kicking together ONE’s butt.
