Hello everyone
With this article I will express some concerns I have had recently, following the course of consequences lately which have the essence of national tragedy following in their wake. Before you read on please rest assured that I am writing this of my own volition as an upstanding and independent member of our nation, congress and future, with a level head and enough experience to know when things need to be said.
New Parties
Firstly, we have seen the rise of another new party thanks to aggressive recruitment and old ideals. By preying upon people's apparent volatility against the nation's most established party there is a new challenger to the older parties which claims to want "change" and "fairness". What we have, though, is naivety and threats against our nation's sovereignty. I am very happy to see new rises to power, I am not a member of TUP and probably never will be, I would support any good people in an honest, secure and beneficial move for change and if I were in a position of personal loss from such success I would happily accept defeat for the good of our nation. I will not sit by silently as naivety and aggressive recruiting leads a party into power instead of strong leadership and a coherent plan.
Citizenship
The very people who have, in the past, claimed to want our nation to be stronger, more secure, more independent, are now claiming that allowing everyone into our country is a good idea purely for numbers. Is this for their own ends? We need only look to USA to see why we have learned to be strict about our acceptance. With enemies all around the world and a small population, we are a prime target for corruption via citizenship (often referred to as "PTO" or Political TakeOver). Nations such as France, very aggressively against us as proven by constant wars declared which we all have experienced, have larger populations than us and will try any ways to bring us to a weakened state for their own benefit.
And thus, after years of experience, we have adopted a strict citizenship procedure which only allows those who pass certain checks into our nation on a permanent basis. We have enemies, we have learned from experience, we have tried and erred and now we check to ensure the safety of our players, young and old, from being dominated from within by external forces.
Those calling for a revertion to the times when we were forced to learn years ago must be made aware of this for the national good.
Those who want to disregard learned lessons do not deserve positions in which they are given control.
Those who know the lessons and want to work against them are working against our safety and need to be outed.
Iain Keers of TUP seems to be why people are against our citizenship procedure. I claim that the people wanting "open borders" are not thinking with their brains, but thinking with their anti-establishmental hearts and I hope that I can convince them to reconsider this attitude for the national good, and question those who convinced them that it is a good idea.
Were we to adopt "open border" policies, we would quickly learn again why we are rather strict, as a small nation, on our citizenship procedure and the natural course of events, whomever is in control of government and congressional majority at the time, new or old, would want us to be more careful again and adopt a similar policy once more. We should thank the experienced for still helping us maintain our sovereignty not aggressively berate them for it.
"Say NO to forums!"
This is a political game. The very word "Forum" should very well be enough to convince those interested in politics that they are necessary.

Those calling for the abolishment of forums and the use of in-game messages being used for discussion instead must surely be missing the point. ERepublik does not provide the functionality of a forum for discussion, the exchange of ideas, the productivity of communal vocality, etc. It provides published articles and meager messaging. We have learned to use external forums for discussion on a community level because it is necessary. Again, the problem seems to be anti-TUP members in general and I will almost guarantee you that should we abolish the forums for such petty and naive reasons, you will quickly establish another external method of discussion through mere necessity.
And so, why not use the forums? Because you've seen a few good discussions on a few articles? Because the moderators are all friends? Tell me, if you had been playing a game with the same people for a few years and had become friends, would you not join the same party together? Oh, you already joined the party with the people who you talk to and now are trying to out the old big party to usher in the new big party. In two years, should this new party succeed in totally taking over and wresting control away from TUP, another new and aggressive party will pop up in order to do the same to you because you are inadvertently trying to do exactly what you are fighting against.
Trusting the untrustworthy
Again, we have seen trust thrown upon the highly questionable and proven untrustworthy for what seems to be a couple of well-worded, directly-aimed articles at a very, very convenient time. People who have cheated, lied and corrupted in the past now given positions and conveniently neglecting their past in a party of new people, who obviously do not know who they are dealing with.
The timing of his return to us is beyond suspicion. A time when a leader-less new party without real aims, method or goals aggressively recruits all the naive, inexperienced people in a game where numbers count is an ideal time for someone with a history of corruption, theft and deceipt to step in and through further deceipt and corruption, even breaking basic game rules to do so, wrest control away from the well-wishing people who founded and recruited for the new party. Be warned! Your naivety and inexperience will be the downfall of our nation, a nation many others around the game respect for our stalwart ways and experience. You will turn to the old for help when the new abandon the game upon our defeat, for the old have proven they'll stick around through this nonsense before.
Me
With this course of events, I am in high doubts that anything will truly change. I can try my best to warn off lowering our guard and becoming a mockery of a national team but I don't think the naive will listen. Instead I suspect I will be the subject of the next attack or lies conjured up by the decieving. The very fact that I have already accepted that is a tragedy for our nation as I am and always have been a loyal, respectful member of our national team, who has always tried to help and sometimes accept people not liking me if it improves their capabilities for their long-term benefit.
I only hope that I can help to change the minds of some of our population about the fallacies they have heard about other people. Things are how they are through experience, not through power trips, glory hunting or personal satisfactions.

All citizens of UK are totally free except bound to the ingame rules. It is a free choice to join http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/index.php for discussion. When using that forums you are bound to the rules of the forums. Same applies for chatting on IRC. Rules are needed to get a flourishing community. Rules can be discussed.
Fact is the IRC and the forums have made eUK what it is now. Without it we would be like leafs in the wind at the will of our far stronger enemies.

Firstly nobody is calling for the country to be PTO'd and the fact yourself and a few others keep uttering this untruth is a sign of desperation. Is it wrong to have all the top five parties have a say in advising...key word 'advising' Congress rather than one unelected man ordering Congress how to use their in game passes?
And why is it okay to discuss taking over a party yet not okay to take over a country...you were present during Keers and his ATO discussion I am guessing?
May I also ask why it is okay for eUK citizens to go abroad to help 'influence' their politics yet you seem to think that a PTO of the eUK is such a terrible game ending thing. Surely thats a tad hypocritical? If we give it then surely we can't complain if we get it? And no please dont comment on how i suport a foreign PTO now : )
As for forums, well i have sent proof of moderator homophobia to a mod and it was ignored. I have sent more proof of mods ignoring certain peoples forum rule breaking but punishing others literally two posts later...again nothing was said. It must surely concern you (because you mentioned it) that the anti-forum clique voice is getting louder and not just from me! Hence why we had a the all party conference last weekend.

I guess you mean Talons deputy President Ergo? A former banned player who started a new account denied he was a former TUP Congress man and then rejoined TUP before denying he was biased...and then rage quit the game? Because I didnt see much condemnation of his 'past' character...
...or what about Talons judgement in promoting a former banned player to the position of VP then talking about grooming him as possible successor? You seem a tad quiet on that one ; )

Oddly enough that was thrown as an accusation at me twice by the CP and his VP...without proof and when i roved that I have only run for Congress twice (with monthly breaks in between) and never applied for a Government position or any position that would give me power...well they went quiet. Perhaps because it is an accusation easily reversed compared to myself?

That's pretty hypocritical. I don't see why you find a need to ban forum use because you disagree with it, you're free not to use them, but don't tell the rest of us what we should do.
I don't want a ban on forum use, I want an end to forum use dictating the game. Big Difference.

I agree with the 2nd part, and I used the actual definition of the term when talking about grain, which means to "delay or hold back in terms of progress or development:". That's neither derogative nor sick and twisted, I think you'll find! You seem to focus on the mis-truth and not the question I posed.
@Dr Hugh: There have been calls for open citizenship by new parties, which in effect is promoting a PTO, because everyone who is not a PTO threat is let in. The proposed take-over of NE was because it looked like a PTO, as nobody could understand how it gained so many members so quickly. We've tried citizenship committees before, and they didn't work, people didn't put the time and effort in, so that dull job fell to the only person who could be bothered, Iain Keers.

We can have a comment war here, but it'll all be gone in 48 hours. That's the beauty of the forums! Poland haven't made us what we are, we are still a country even when Poland isn't there to stop us being wiped.

Danie - mate we have tried reform of the BEF before and it failed, but we tried again and again. Just because something didnt work once doesnt mean you dont try again. And you cant really call someone a threat for playing the game by the games rules can you if were honest : )

I didn't write this article to defend TUP or any one member of any one party, but to explain some things.
There have been calls from people in NE to abolish forums, I explained why it is a bad idea. I didn't say the moderators are perfect, merely that forums are required for progress.
There have been calls from some people to open borders for all, I explained why that is a tragic move.
I have never defended Ergo, please quote me. You would out Ergo but not Goku, who is hypocritical?
For clarity, labelling me as pro-TUP or anti-TUP is all in your own mind, I know good people on both sides of every debate. Letting a debate become an argument is a personal failure to those involved in the arguing.
All I want is a stronger national team and will explain my opinion on the pro's and con's of any actions. If I see TUP or NE as detrimental to the national good in a situation I'll say it up front, as I have done here.

Personally, I am not calling for the abolishment of forum communication and the adoption of 100% ingame communication. I am campaigning for the following:
1) The current forum reforms or dies.
2) The balance between in game and forum discussion (articles vs threads) is rebalanced from a 20/80 split in favour of threads to a 80/20 split in favour of articles.
Betafoxtrot: Casually throwing around racist words is not cool. This just shows that you are an immature child still, those of us who are adults do not throw words like that around.

Apparantly yes, it is only one opinion. I'm amazed that not many others seem to think the same as me. Words like n****r and p*ki are never OK to use in any context. If my black friends who say it ironically are racist, then I must be racist. If it's not ok in any context then they're being racist themselves. And Klurr, perhaps if you're in the minority then it's more acceptable than you realise. Side note, if you want certain words and opinions banned because they offend you, or you decide they offend others, then that's not unmoderated free speech. That's restricted speech...
I should also add, I'm not comfortable with black people who use that word when speaking to/about/with other black people. It is a derogative term regardless of how it is used. I hate it being used in hiphop/rap. And yes, unfortunately it is more acceptable than I realise, I still take the stance that it is disgusting and it's used by people with few brain cells. Of course it would still be just as offensive, it's an offensive term to put down an entire race.

No, it wasn't offensive when it was first used. It was a term for a black person, and is Spanish in origin, back when European's kept slaves. It was the late 20th century that it started to be banned, and that was when it became hugely offensive as it was. Now, people are more liberal. Jeez, it's like white-man's burden in here. Just because you find something offensive doesn't mean other people use it to be offensive or are offended, nor is it actually "racist" especially when used ironically.
