[IJC] India, a country full of love

Day 3,445, 09:12 Published in India Croatia by Selak Ivan

This fact you knew, Emperor of India, Shah Jahan
That time’s stream carries off life, youth, riches, renown
Only your hear’s grief
Could be eternal, that was your majesty’s true belief
Your royal might, adamantine,
Would fade into oblivion like the crimson of the setting sun

Simply one great sigh
Would stay, forever-impassioned, rending the sky -
That was your prayer.
Diamonds, pearls, rubies glisten
Like the trickery of a rainbow on the empty horizon,
Soon to vanish like mist
Shedding just
One tear droplet
on the cheek of Time, shining and undefiled -
This Taj Mahal.

-“Shah Jahan”, Rabindranath Tagore

Huge tumb in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. Landmark of India, one of the best architecture throughout Indian history. Designated as World Heritage by the UNESCO in 1983. Persian architect Ahmad Lahori directed the whole construction.

Shah Jahan, the emperor of Mugul Empire, loved his wife very much. After she dies while giving 14th birth to their baby, the emperor was in deep sorrow. Until her death, he was a wise and strong king of huge empire. However, after she dies, he didn’t care about his country. He only focused on the construction of his wife’s huge tumb. So many people worked in the construction area, and they needed to pay huge money for it too. After 22 years of construction, Taj Mahal was finally completed on the endless teardrops of Indian people.

Ten years after the completion, one of Shah Jahan’s sons overthrew the emperor due to his lethargy and lack of ability. The old emperor was locked in the tower. He lived a quiet life for the rest of his days, with both of his eyes on the huge white tumb which he could see through the tower’s window.

What is love? I mean, what the heck is love? These days this question always confuses me, sometimes it makes me unable to concentrate on something. In the past, I had girlfriend and we liked each other much. But was it this MUCH? If I have great relationship with another girl in the future, will I able to love her that much?

Can I sacrifice everything for her?

Would I become hopeless at all after she vanishes?

Would I die if she dies?

What the heck is the love?

This air wind is humming singing
Sky is humming singing
The whole world is singing
Zoobi doobi zoobi doobi pamparam

The leaves on the branches are singing
And the bugs are singing on the flowers
The crazy rays are singing
And these birds are singing

In the garden two flowers are saying something to each other
Like the way it happens in films, it is happening in real
Zoobi doobi zoobi doobi pum para

Zoobi doobi zoobi doobi why this mad heart is dancing

zoobi doobi zoobi doobi pum para
zoobi param pum

zoobi doobi zoobi doobi why this mad heart is dancing

-“Zoobi Doobi”

In fact, this movie is mainly about true friendship between three main characters. Also, it is trying to say the dark part of overheated competition in Indian society. Three main characters were different from other students, but they finally find their dream and achieve them.

In the movie, Rancho, one of the main character lost his love due to the graduation. After several years, he hears from his friends that the girl who he loved is going to marry with another man. He drove crazily to the marriage, and together they escaped from their families.

To be honest, these are all peculiar to me. I cannot give up my own life because of one girl (maybe I need to add “yet” here...) I cannot just barge in others’ marriage and get my past girlfriend out of her marriage. But many Indian things made me think again about the word “Love”. Even though I am not good at this, there is one certain thing.

India is full of true love, if I can call it.

The true love, not only Eros, but also kind of Agape & Philia between a boy and a girl.

The true love which they can give up all things.

The true love.
