Why I think BAF and the Military training unit is important for eBelgium.

The eBelgian Armed Forces!

“The History”

With the new independence of eBelgium way back in january 2010, the eBelgium army got founded.
The first steps in this happened when the Defense Organisation got founded, now known as “eBelgium Military” in the beginning of february 2010. Now the army, lead by DemetriusA, MoD at the time, could start recruitment. The active eBelgians of that time quickly filled in the recruitment for and at the end of the month the Home Guard had 3 units, each consisting of 10 soldiers. I even managed to find the announcement back from over a year ago. You can read it here.
A few months later, the Home Guard got reorganized by Medrolke. The army got divided into three companies with two platoons each and appointing generals to run the military instead of the MoD. Since the army didn’t got any funding supplies were few but we got to setup some military companies to create supplies.
In July V2 came, or at least, that was supposed to happen. The BAF plowed through but activity lowered severely. v2 was very costly for our soldiers and a lot of citizens didn’t like the changes and left the game. The army kept existing untill the beginning of november when the MoD Vulcain reactivated the military and brought it back alive. This was the basis of the current BAF. Active recruitment started and soon eBE had an active army again. Vulcain made the BAF active and exciting to be in. This continued in january and february with temujin94 as MoD.
We fought bravely in Training Wars with our MPPs and doing an IRC raid from time to time.
In march a new era started for the BAF with the start of the army communes by ThomasRed. The BAF was now producing it’s own weapons and food. For and by the soldiers. The latest project has started only recently. With the a trainings facility, Belgium provides a way for new players to learn and to rank up quick so that they can go through to the BAF as fast as possible.

“Ribbons and points”

Soldiers are asked to keep track of their fights and influence done. This is how points are gained. At a certain amount of points a ribbon is handed out to you. You can also acquire ribbons for participating in a specific campaign.

“Army avatar”

Each soldier in the BAF is required to wear the official avatar. Every avatar is personalised and fit to each soldier. The avatar contains an icon for the rank and the platoon. Your ribbons can also be added on your avatar.

“Army values”

What the army expects from its members can be distracted from a real live army protocol.

loyalty: Loyalty demands commitment. Army loyalty entails the correct priority of soldiers' obligations and commitments to the Constitution, the Army, the unit, other soldiers, friends and yourselves.

duty: Means accomplishing all your tasks to the best of your ability.

respect: Army respect means to promote dignity, consideration of others, fairness, and equal opportunity. It includes a sensitivity to and regard for the feelings and needs of others and an awareness of the effect of a person's behavior on them.

honour: Honour is a moral virtue of being or a state of character that people possess by upholding the values that make up the Army's public moral code.

integrity: Army integrity means possessing high personal moral standards and being honest in word and deed.

courage: Courage is the strength to do what is right, to adhere to a higher standard of personal conduct, to lead by example, and to make tough decisions under stress and pressure.

"Weapons of Influence"

Why I think BAF and the Military training unit is important for eBelgium.

Groups of individuals gather together to achieve a goal or objective, either as a committee or some other grouping. They go through several predictable stages before useful work can be done. The BAF is such a group of people who came together for obtaining strenght and belonging. Like any group they needed the time to develop to its full potential. I feel that now is the time that BAF is getting to be a real GROUP. Lets take a look at what they provide for its members.

BAF provides the soldiers with:

1. Being a real team: because BAF has a shared task, clear boundaries which clarify who is inside or outside of the group, and stability in group membership.
2. Compelling direction: BAF provides a clear, challenging, and consequential goal.
3. Enabling structure: allowing structure because BAF has tasks which have variety, a group size that is not too large, talented group members and strong norms that specify appropriate behavior.
4. Supportive context: BAF has reward systems that reward performance and cooperation an educational system that develops member skills and an information and materials system that provides help.

eBelgium hasn’t got much possibilities to conquer new regions. So we can’t find a common goal in that. Still, our country has a need to have goals set out to get that feeling of achievement. With the current structure of the army and the work our Generals put in to it we can achieve things like winning mini battles for our friends and neighbours and in the meantime gain strenght and the ability to rank up. All the time sharing with your compadres from the military unit you belong too. I am not only your President I am also a soldier and proud to serve in BAF. It gives me great joy to see we have become better and stronger. It makes me even more proud to see that even other nations recognise our abilities as an army and ask for our help.
To give you an idea on what the army costs are for eBelgium I would like you to refer you to this message on our national forum. I can tell you that it isn’t easy to manage the army as cheap as possible. The choice for being self sufficient seemed to be the cheapest solution. Still I feel we need more support and recognition from our citizens and certainly from elected congressmen and women. The BAF is something we can be proud of and it would be even greater if we get more people to join. That means we could use more money to accomplish these goals. After all I think it is tax money well spend! It gives a great play experience and gives eBelgium a voice and purpose in the eWorld.
