[BG] Deeds speak louder than words

"President of Bulgaria proposed a mutual protection pact with Turkey"

Let's have a quick look at the main events leading to this:

1. Turkey got fed up being used and humiliated by the egomaniacs who pretended to be their allies. We all know who those are: the same guys who preferred FYROM to Bulgaria during Phoenix times, plus the Polish and Spanish traitors;

2. Turkey wanted to join an alliance where she could be treated with respect. All the EDEN governments approved (a little bit hastily) that Turkey should join EDEN after an exceptionally short trial period of 1 month;

3. A large part of the Bulgarian public opinion was outraged at the preferential treatment given to Turkey, especially given some in-game and RL issues between the two countries;

4. Some idiotic Turkish trolls poured gasoline over the flames by further insulting the Bulgarian players. If one wants to join an alliance where one is treated with respect, then one should always keep in mind respect goes both ways.

The result of that chain of events was the normalization o the relations between Bulgaria and Turkey was compromised.

Since we live in an imperfect world, the last attempt of fixing the things was inconclusive: the discussions among the EDEN presidents ended without any results. Moreover, both Turkey and Bulgaria got the feeling each was pressured into agreeing on something unacceptable.

The essence of the issue is not about Real Life past events. Nothing which happens in this game can influence what happened centuries ago. Even if the time-travel machine would be invented, things would be fixed with the help of the time-travel machine, not by playing eRepublik.

However what happened in this game has a lot to do with the current situation. Bulgaria has some in-game reasons to suspect Turkey would be a reliable ally.

For instance when Bulgaria lost her Bosnian colony, it lost it because an important number of Turkish players fought in that RW.

The same happened when Bulgaria lost her Iranian colonies, even though it was Turkey who had allowed Bulgaria to cross into Iran to begin with.

Then it was the issue of Turks fighting Turks (the Inci vs Turkey soap opera).

Such a series of behaviors makes people wonder if Turkey is stable enough that any agreement with the government would be respected by the majority of the Turkish players.

The MPP currently proposed by the Bulgarian president is an opportunity to test this. But just signing an MPP and waiting for 30 days is not enough. Turkey has a surplus of Iranian regions which Bulgaria could use. If Turkey is to be trusted then two things also need to happen:

1) Bulgaria should receive the surplus regions which she needs and Turkey has no use of it anyway;

2) In case some Turkish players do the same stupidity like during the Bosnian episode and fight in the RWs, the majority of the Turkish military units should come to the assistance of Bulgaria. An MPP is good, but the MPPs can't help in RWs. If the majority of the Turks really want good relations with Bulgaria they should be the first to fight against those Turks who want to derail the good relations.

I expect a strong reaction in Bulgaria against signing this MPP. But rejecting it would be a mistake.

Until this MPP exists, the discussion whether Turkey is a trustworthy partner for Bulgaria or not is purely academic.

Some will say she can't be trusted, some will say she can, but until there is any way to test it all we have are opinions, not facts. (Yes, the Turks proved to be a trustworthy partner for the other EDEN countries, but alliances are bilateral. So if Turkey wants to be allied with Bulgaria, Turkey needs to prove this directly to Bulgaria as well. Especially since there is the Bosnian episode which happened exactly between Tureky and Bulgaria and nobody else).

So we're looking at some very interesting 24 hours ahead.
