To Broadcast or to Podcast, and Other Media Updates

Day 1,957, 18:23 Published in USA USA by saraht0ga

I posed a question to the AMP Cabinet IRC channel and the AMP public channel today. As Media Director, part of my job is whipping the cabinet members to write articles, and I've really been going after them for the past week. I made a schedule, and thus far have made sure that people stuck with it. And, to be fair, I added myself to the schedule. For today.

So the question I posed was this:

<@saraht0ga> what should i write?

Though I received many wonderful, thoughtful responses in the AMP public room:

<&Blondeninja> BUNNIES

<+Paul_Proteus> CAP LOCKS ARE COOL

<+Paul_Proteus> Also you should write an article about Paul_Proteus

<&Evry> FARTS

I decided to go with Blondeninja's second response:

<&Blondeninja> saraht0ga: write about how you're pissed at BTR but you have a bunch of fun things coming up none the less and run through a few, maybe wrap up with some little recruitment stuff

And, here we are.

It is true that blogtalkradio has been a bit of a pain lately. It seems that our normal Wednesday time slot of 18:00 erep (which is 9pm est) is a terrible time for radio. Usually either myself or Dr Luis Sentieiro have terrible connections, sometimes both of us, and my cohost, John Killah, is unable to attend those days.

We attempted this week to fix the error by having the show an hour earlier, at 17:00 erep (8pm est). It helped, oddly. Until we hit the aftershow at 18:00, then neither Dr Luis nor I were intelligible to listeners.

And, unfortunately, the first 15 minutes of the show were glitched out on the BTR site. There was no Skype button for people to call in and/or listen, and the embedded player wasn't working either.

It has become a new job for the Media department of AMP to find a suitable alternative. My deputy, divineal, has found a couple of websites that we will be testing out.

Another idea I had was that, perhaps, we could host scheduled Skype conversations. With my semi-proficient skill at audio manipulation/recording, I could record the conversations, add in music and sound effects later, and release them at a scheduled time each week. The plus with this is that the audio quality of each speaker only relies on his or her internet, and not the BTR servers. Another plus is that we wouldn't have to find a good time to broadcast - since the show would be uploaded later for listeners, the hosts and guests could find a time suitable to hold our discussions (which would be doubly helpful considering the scattered timezones we contend with). The negative, however, would be losing the live radio aspect.

Please give feedback in the comments of your preferred delivery of AMPR. Podcasts, another radio broadcasting website, or something else entirely! All feedback is appreciated. Even trolls. Dr Luis needs a good stress outlet, and could use some more bodies for his torture dungeon (note: listen to last Wednesday's episode of AMPR for the full in-joke for that here.)

It's been a busy couple weeks for AMP. We have finally moved over to our new forums, though our Technology and Security Department are working hard to continue making sure that bugs aren't present and that the forums are aesthetically pleasing to everyone and easily accessible. Read Blondeninja's article on the forum migration here.

Bruce_Hatton, from the AMP Retention Department, has been super busy attempting to organize us into finally doing the next round of the Inter-Party Poker Tournament, and hosted a very interesting first round of the AMP Debate Club earlier tonight on #AMP. Read Bruce's article summarizing events being held/organized by the Retention team here.

Evry, our wonderful congressional WHIP, wrote a great article introducing AMP's 64th congressmen (and women) here.

And finally, our Party President Dr Luis Sentieiro regularly updates his own newspaper, formerly The Drunk Donkey and currently known as The Corleone Family News. Check out his latest article here.

Thanks for reading, guys! I'll keep whipping the RT to write articles (they complain, but look at how awesome those are!), and I look forward to entertaining you guys in future episodes of AMPR, whether they be on BTR, a competing site, or via podcast.

PS, Evry: I mentioned farts. How soon are we planning our e-wedding?
