The New, Improved and Totally Redefined RightCon!
Cromstar
Greetings citizens!
For those of you who've been paying attention or who have good memories, you may remember that 3 months ago (give or take), Gaius Julius and I created RightCon, which provided a foil to the ambitious USWP plan that month. Unfortunately, for everyone, neither plan performed up to the standards set out: to propose a complete slate of fully qualified and exceptional Congressional candidates. Like every other election, the numbers of candidates on the ballots did not prevent a plethora of bad apples and two-clickers from entering office.
Due to my own accessibility problems, the next two months RightCon performed even less satisfactorily, eventually devolving into just another pool of partisan bickering. I've said before that the partisan crap is pointless and unreasonable, but it seems that my message fell on to many deaf ears.
No longer.
I have decided to restart RightCon from scratch (with Gaius' help and input). Total reboot. I've washed the walls, floors, and ceilings to get rid of the smoke smell and opened up the windows. This month, from now until I stop doing RightCon, at the least, we have a new mandate and a new modus operandi.
RightCon, originally conceived as a way for parties on the non-existant 'right' of the political spectrum in eRepublik to chat together never really existed. The first month around it included the UIP and AAP, something which I, personally, enjoyed. Therefore, I'm going back to part of that formula.
The new RightCon stands for identifying qualified candidates for Congress. We judge candidates based on their level of activity and non-partisanship, NOT their platforms or party affiliations. We plan to inform all major party presidents of our findings and work to encourage all parties to avoid running qualified candidates against each other, as well as working together to eliminate bad candidates and Congressmen.
So who is RightCon? Obviously one of the problems in the past was that party presidents were involved in RightCon. That, in my opinion (and those of others), made it unworkable. It was viewed as nothing more than a platform to push party agendas and partisan politics. In response, RightCon has officially disassociated itself from any party. We are NOT affiliated with any party at all, nor do we adhere to any sort of political agenda or alignment.
The new Board of RightCon is made up of 6 like-minded individuals who want to see Congress filled with 51 active people working to better the nation. We want to see the sniper-wars come to an end. We will work towards making the eUS a better place and strengthening the nation. We represent the top six major political parties and we look forward to a day when we can all say 'See? We finally did it!'
In the vain of the Jedi Council created by President scrabman and the national primary system toted by some individuals such as Ananias of the USWP, RightCon seeks to cut the partisan red-tape and help the nation become stronger through unity.
The eUS is a great nation, and we all wish to see it become greater still. I call on all citizens to show their support of national unity by supporting the call I am issuing today. Lay down the right vs. left. No more USWP vs Libs. vs. UIP. vs. whoever. Call upon your party leaders to come together and work to keep the best of the best in Congress. If we are going to have contested elections, let's make sure ALL the contestants have a right to be in Congress!
Let this, then, stand as the moment when the eUS started down the long and dangerous path that leads to unity and national pride. Take pride in our nation; take pride in our citizens; take pride in our clean, effective politics! It's not about right versus left, it's about right versus wrong!

Hm. I think USACon is a better name now 😃
rightemaxx
damn you HR...oops I mean mr President, you stole me first.
Well, HR...if we get this working and get support from parties, we'll rename it AmeriCon.
I look forward to being a part of this effort. I hope that we can all work together and make progress towards ensuring quality members of Congress in all 51 seats. Excellent article, Cromstar.
ICCCR redux?
Proud to be serving on this team.
RightCon is a pretty cool guy. It reforms and doesn't afraid of the USWP.
Voted and subscribed.
I'm going to have to agree with Zcia, this just sounds like another group of people forming an ICCCR. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Why do you have to use the term Right? It immediately polarizes the electorate. If you want lower taxes, vote for lower taxes immediately or GTFO poseur.
I'm hoping this achieves its goal -- get the 51 best candidates into office.
Zcia and Neil have it right; what would make this any different from the ICCCR?
Simple. The ICCCR is a where the party leaders get together. I've been in the ICCCR. That's not about qualified candidates, it's about political whims and personal favorites. That's why we've divorced ourselves from the parties. None of us stand to gain anything from RightCon.
Excellent article. Written with much emotion in it, specifically towards the end, and I'm all for your mission. We need to look past our parties and goals and realize that at the end of it all we're working or a stronger America, period. Voted and subscribed. Best of luck!
A couple questions: how will you stop parties from running against "qualified candidates" and how will you stop parties from sniping each other?
So basically instead of PPs hand picking their friends/favorite people it will be you and your buddies hand picking your friends/favorite people. To me this just looks like another good old boys club. This wont help create better inter party relations until you include the USWP. In fact it just further reinforces this us versus them mentality that has been going on in this country as long as I have been playing. I'd like to add that you quoting "Who watches the watchers?" made me lol because well that is a good question. Who is watching rightcon?
The USWP is included. All top 6 parties are. Secondly, this isn't about friends. We will provide an evaluation of candidates, unlike the ICCCR.
Well if it eliminates partisan hackery in a supposedly objective analysis of candidates I am all for it, but I think a published board and some criteria would make me more gung ho about it.
>We judge candidates based on their level of activity and non-partisanship, NOT their platforms or party affiliations.
This is a terrible trend that's been going on ever since congress was invented. What you're saying is that if some one is always on, and agrees with people from other parties, then they're gravy. But if some one is intelligent and isn't afraid of pushing their own views, then they're out.
I know that you're trying to avoid idiots who don't understand eRepublik, but all you have to do is throw the word "intelligent" and "productive" in there, instead of welcoming terrible congressmen whose sole purpose is to agree with everyone.
Well said, Plus one to Emerick. Having an opinion is so unpatriotic these days. Actually, why exclude two clickers? Seems to me, they'd be much easier to control. 😛
Em, just because someone is active and non-partisan, how does that mean agreeable and a sheep in the flock? I think you're reading something that isn't there.
As an initial member of the board, I won't be put off just because someone doesn't agree with others. Hell, I'm probably one of the one's that doesn't agree with everyone.
What we want is people involved and people who are working to bring the congress together.
Not agreeing would be a platform issue, not a partisanship issue. A partisanship issue is one who, say, thinks that the USWP are goat-eating devils or somesuch and loudly proclaims so across a dozen different places.
I see an organization like this starting off with good intentions but as turnover begins to affect their orginal members, be weary of the direction something like this takes. Day one its an ideal, day two its a dream come true, day three its just another source of power for someone elses endevers. Sometimes these things have to go thru boom and bust periods.
