The Journal – Alliance Profile: Asgard
Asgard was founded during the Contest of the Alliances held by the eRepublik administration team back in August 2012. Both Finland and Sweden registered the alliance in a gesture to strengthen Nordic relations. The idea quickly became popular and transpired further when the Charter of Asgard was signed validating this coalition to exist outside of the contest. “The alliance was created because we were sick of big alliances fighting in wars that we never took part in” says Wolf Heinrich a co-founder of Asgard, “we don’t care about fighting in a war that won’t give us anything, we wanted to end the big-alliance mentality of eRepublik so we went and created a smaller one.” To Wolf Asgard is “a real brotherhood.”
During 2012 both Finland and Sweden suffered dramatic losses in active population. Finland shrunk by 51%, the biggest percentage loss in Europe, while the Swedes lost 44%. Those losses gave Russia far more influence over the region. For the Swedes & Fins moves toward a Scandinavian alliance sensibly countered depleting populations whilst regained influence helping to deter threats. Unlike EDEN, CoT and TWO Asgard isn't governed by an elected HQ instead the Country Presidents, Ministers for Defense and six appointed officials take care of its day to day running. This structure along with the alliance’s petite size ensures that all member states have clear and equal says on policy. Still given the historic ties the Nordic nations have with EDEN along with the stance of their bigger neighbours it is quite clear Asgard remains firmly on the EDEN axis.
Wolf seems to somewhat resents this “well” he says “we get a lot of support from EDEN and we have helped them in some battles yes but we see ourselves as a neutral alliance independent of EDEN. If EDEN were to split up sure it would be harder for us to survive but plans have been made for such a scenario.”
A split in EDEN mightn't be the worst thing for Asgard. With EDEN in despair and dissatisfaction growing amoungst some her members, Asgard poses the ideal location for nations that desire to leave the Brotherhood but are too dependent on her damage. Would Asgard be open to them? “Yeah we would be open to EDEN-members applying but we would make our own choices patently and carefully. We are not going to end up being some sort of puppet-alliance”.
Alliance daily influence: Sweden 29.8%, Canada 31.9%, Finland 38.2%
January has been the alliance’s busiest month post establishment. In two bold moves Irish inquiries into the possibility of membership were snubbed whilst an invitation was sent to North America opening trial membership for Canada. The message is certainly clear Asgard is open for business but under a strict criteria. Over the next few months eyes will focused on the Northerners, can they break away from EDEN and form themselves into a force that can compete against the Big 3?
Thank you for reading this brief look at Asgard, please subscribe to up to date with my future articles, the next piece will look at a profile of the Circle of Trust.

I think the next few months could be an interesting time for Asgard. If they have serious pretensions about being a meaningful alliance, albeit one concentrated in Northern Europe/North America, we might see an expansion. Of course we might also see the CoT/TWO juggernaut try to wipe them from the face of the earth too.
Informative read.

Actually Asgard wasn't formed because of or as a result of this stupid competition the admins came up with. The Wiki is wrong about that. Have no idea who put it there. Discussions between the countries involved about a Nordic Alliance had been going on for months before that competition came up.
Asgard was created on the idea that it should be a small, regional alliance that can decide it's own faith, choose it's own way etc. So don't expect us to challenge "the big 3", ever. That would defeat the purpose of the alliance.
About EDEN, well as Wolf says Asgard is a neutral alliance. We have EDEN MPPs sure, but that is due to the fact that we at the moment have the same enemies. Some of our closest friends are moving towards CoT now so who knows what might happen once EDEN falls.
Thanks for all the subs and shouts everyone I really appreciate it very much.
I'm off for the day, enjoy your Sunday!
Otherwise a good article. Voted.
Forgot to add that : )

ASGARD!
The only bad-ass alliance!
Asgard refusing Ireland coz of some retarded irish CP who attaked Sweden....i belive he was one of the kunts...if not please inform me...i can't remember retarded times....
I'm proud of Ásgárd! To me, they're the ideal image of what an alliance truly is, unlike EDEN, CoT and ONE which are all feudalistic. Personaly I view my self loyal to Ásgárd before EDEN.
Fun fact:
The idea of Ásgárd(or N/A as we called it back then) was proposed by the President of Norway, and Norway was supposed to be one of the three founding members. Norway decided not to, for the sake of alliance loyalty, but Ásgárd remains a topic of importance and Norway is on the edge of shifting over from EDEN right now.
@Viktor no sume of use wants Ireland, NG don't cuz ur trustworthy and full of trolls according to them [:
Soooome misinformation here and there, but I'll let it pass
~hyuu~
As the second co-founder, I have to agree with Kain. The competition did not have anything to do with Asgard. Nordic Alliance had been schemed behind congress's and governments backs before I became president of eFinland, and ended it, by making it governmental matter between me, cp of Sweden, and few other government members. All civilians and schemers were kicked out.
So the idea had been living like 6 months before the competition, and redone almost completetly during our term. The competition by admins was totally a coincidience
