The Great Socialist Baking Show
or Saltpeter and Waffles

eRep Day 5520 - New Year Edition
Song of the week: Working in the Coal Mine

Rolling in with revolutionary joy to celebrate the New Year with an anarcho-syndicalist and proletarian-internationalist spirit, the Revolutionary Committee-peeps of the Socialist Freedom Party are happy to announce a new mutal aid program for Party members!

"Salty peters make cannon go boom!" -- Anonymous

There was some debate on the RC about what to call the new program.

Current Chair of the RC, Pfenix Quinn who, some people say, is a bit of a goofball and does not take things very seriously, started out the debate with a groan-worthy pun...

"I saw a man pushing around a cart of saltpeter, he immediately stopped when he saw someone doing something nefarious.

Or you could say the peter parker, spied a man."

That nearly got him beat up.

Then he wanted to call it "The Great Socialist Baking Show" or maybe "Saltpeter and Waffles". Those two very fine suggestions were met with silence.

Sharp-witted RC firebrand and up-and-coming economic whiz Yuuka Kazami, Flower Master of the Four Seasons, proferred "Sunflowers 'R' Us". And everybody's favorite cold-hearted snake Franklin Stoner, who digs the old 60's hits, weighed in through a cloud of smoke, suggesting "Saltpeter, Y'all! And be Merry".

Before a vote could be taken or any good suggestions could be heard, the committee meeting got side-tracked when comrades Shiloh13, Leon Gutierrez and Molly Mock grabbed their axes and started banging out a late 80's lower east side biker-metal anthem called "Call of the Wild" at full volume. That got everybody jumping and pumping. It was followed up by a rousing fast-paced version of "Bella Ciao" sung in Italian, Spanish and Montenegrin by RiccardoCatte, Camarada Guerrero and Goxi HN, with the whole team joining in on the chorus.

A bit woozy with revolutionary fervor, the rocking comrades forgot about coming up with a spiffy name for the new program, and went carousing off into the e-night. As they do. But a good time was had by all and that's what really matters.

For now the glorious new mutual aid program will simply be called the MIP - Manufacturing Incentive Program.

Comrade crvnazvezda exploring the vast saltpeter mines of Kentucky

This revolutionary mutual aid initiative of the Socialist Freedom Party is funded by contributions to Party.

The idea is to arm members become successful and self-sufficient economically by helping them to buy Saltpeter Mines. The suggested approach is to WAM (work as manager) the saltpeter to create Weapons Raw Materials (WRM). Then slurp up the gravy, saltpeter being the quickest, most profitable route for non-moguls to rake in some cash on the market.

MIP is in addition to the existing weekly food and weapons drops available to any Party members in need. Those weekly drops will continue.

Funds for Saltpeter and Waffles, err, MIP will be collected and distributed by the Party's trusty and reliable treasurers, T.J. SCOTT and PilotPhil. Party members who want assistance beefing up their manufacturing will simply respond via the in-game Party feed when an announcement is made that funds are available. No complicated forms or out-of-game hoo-ha required.

Sisters and Brothers and Others who can afford to do so are also encouraged to contribute to the fund.

The Nitty Gritty Details of Saltpeter Mining

Many thanks to Comrades Yuuka Kazami, Leon Gutierrez, crvnazvezda, OdinAndrew, Molly Mock, T.J. SCOTT and others for coming up with this plan and explaining the details...

Why is saltpeter preferable to rubber, iron or oil?

Q1 WRM factory is 1.5 gold, and provides 0.35 WRM after paying 40CC in work tax. That's not economical, even with 200% bonus, it's 100CC for 1 WRM, or maybe 150CC for 2 WRM. 1 WRM is worth about 20 to 30CC, so not good value.

Q2, the oil rig, provides 0.7 WRM for 50CC plus a 3000cc investment. At 200% efficiency, that's basically 1.4wrm/80cc. 1 wrm is, let's just say 25 CC. So it's also losing money.

Q3 the aluminum mine costs 10 gold, or 10,000CC. It produces 1.25 wrm/wam. So, 2.5 wam/40cc with efficiency. If one WRM is 25 CC, it'll make 62.5 - 40 CC, a gain of 22.5 CC per day per mine. That's making some money, but almost nothing. The ROI on that is 445 days.

Q4, saltpeter, is 1.75, so, multiply by two for efficiency, and you get 3.5 WRM per WAM. 3.5 WRM is worth about 87.5CC, so it actually makes you a bit of money from WAM and selling. Every day, you'd make 47.5 CC, for an ROI of 227 days to make back your money.

The Q5 WRM costs 35 gold and makes 5 WRM with a 200% efficiency bonus, or 100-150CC per day, for one WAM. If we assume you make 125, since WRM prices fluctuate between 20 and 30 CC, and pay 40CC, that makes you 87.5 CC per day per mine, for an ROI of 411 days.

The one thing where Q5 WRM factories are good at, is that if you own two, you can complete the daily challenge a tad more efficiently, though since 200% is very hard to maintain due to pollution. You need 3 factories at least to make it consistent.

Due to this, it's more efficient from a scarce resource standpoint to provide saltpeter mines, as they're the most profitable for cost.

Which states are best to be located in when focusing on WRM manufacturing?

Kentucky tests well. Due to pollution is has a 193% efficiency bonus but that's pretty good. Florida has a 199.5 bonus, so perhaps better. You can also do food manufacturing there as well. Kentucky or Florida are good. The other states identified by the gummint as "safe" (from training wars) should be OK too?

Stay tuned to the Party Feed for more details!

...it's revolutionary!
