Scratching the Surface, another lousy survey

Day 2,107, 22:25 Published in Canada Spain by Wilfie

Hi guys, gals, and giraffes:

Remember that Congress survey I did? Even if you don’t, that’s okay because it turns out that the main question about Work Tax was settled before the survey even began. The other question was about prioritizing issues facing eCanada and its Congress. It seems that the question may have been unclear as to what to do and so the results may be backwards for certain people. All in all, you get what you pay for and a totally noob to the game was given 5 Gold to represent you in Congress. Sorry, no refunds. And there’s more to come in the month ahead.

The survey results are in with 13 respondents. The average time each person took to fill out the survey was 5 minutes, with a couple doing it in 30 seconds (how the hell?) and one putting in great consideration with a full 30 minutes to mull over the options. I would like to thank you for the time you took to share your opinions.

Enough of a preamble…

…let’s take a closer look.

Question 1: What tax rate would you like to see the new Work Tax set at (from 1 to 20)?
10 people chose 1%
2 people chose 2%
1 person chose 3%
0 people chose 5%

Earlier today, Congress finished voting on a new work tax with 100% (of 11 votes) supporting 1%. Democracy has been served. No surprise: we don’t like paying high taxes.

The next question asked people to rank 8 issues possibly affecting Congress and/or eCanada. The results may be skewed because the question did not clarify that high priority was 1 and low priority was 8. So, please read these numbers with a grain of salt.

Question 2: What issues are most important for eCanada right now?

You can click here to view a colour-coded graph: http://s23.postimg.cc/e9tfuapwb/graph1.jpg

However, being nearly colour-blind, I did not find the bar graph very helpful, so here is a better look at the results using numbers and such: http://s14.postimg.cc/bdg2gjqvj/graph2.jpg

The 8 issues can be ranked from least to most important as follows:
8. Conquering territory from other countries:
Average score: 2.23
-No surprise here. People seem more focused on rebuilding than engaging with a new enemy. Or maybe we feel sympathetic about what’s like to be picked on by others? I’m sure this feeling will pass soon.

7. Improving relations with Asgard:
Average score: 2.85
-Another non-surprise. Our president recently posted information about eCanada leaving Asgard. Apparently, there was already a poll on this (I missed it). Opinions appear set on this matter.

6. Establishing connections with new allies:
Average score: 4.46
-This one is a head-scratcher. Was the question unclear? Are we not ready to think about new allies after leaving Asgard? Were votes split among other issues? I would have expected this one to be higher. In a war game, a small country doesn’t stand alone and needs support to fight or protection to survive. I have recently heard that we may be interested in Circle of Trust, but they may not be interested in us. Others say eCanada doesn’t want Circle and should look at TWO, the ones that Spain is close to.
Tell you what guys, eCanada should be careful about taking on the role of lone wolf. Sure it’s kind of bad-ass, but you need to back it up with punch. Otherwise, you become the runt of the litter in a very hungry pack.

5. Maintaining peace treaty with Spain:
Average score: 4.69
-I had a feeling this one would not be popular, though I’d say it is one of the more practical options. This one was very split in the vote spread. It’s sort of like we don’t want to, but just have to. Or maybe figured that the issue would look after itself and we should focus our efforts on other things. Or maybe some even think it will fail (as I’ve read in comments here and there). Maybe I should have asked about breaking the peace treaty with Spain to see what people really think.

4. Improving economy, better prices for supplies:
Average score: 5.15
-Just as we hate paying high taxes, we also want our money to go further. I would expect this one to be higher, yet people seem convinced the economy is broken. Or that it is fixed, but like how a boxing match would be fixed, rather than repaired. I’m going to leave this one for the economists to comment on. I’ll continue to hold a grudge against rising prices and falling wages. Really, Erick, a two dollar demotion after wage cuts last week! ffs *touches up resume*

3. Reclaiming our occupied territory:
Average score: 5.23
-It makes sense that this one is on the high end. We’re all eager to get back what’s been taken from us for so long. Plus, I was able to produce more food today with the extra bonus, so this issue does belong next to “better economy.” Plus, reclaiming occupied territory is just another way of saying, “kicking Spain out….as part of a mutually agreed upon treaty to cede territory to both sides” *small bomb* *small bomb* *bazooka and power bar* get out already!

2. Helping new players:
Average score: 5.31
-This one’s high on the list because Canadians are genuinely nice folk. eCanadians are a different breed, I’m learning, yet they are a helpful bunch. Also, people responding to this survey are reading the newspaper of a new player and are likely prone to show interest to what noobs do. So, the demographics on this one are probably skewed. Thanks for helping me on the survey, guys.

1. Adjusting taxes:
Average score: 6.08
-I goofed on this one. I meant to have the Work Tax covered in the first question and then the second question would cover other taxes. I know everyone is very interested in changing the Work Tax. Or maybe you want all taxes changed, since Congress has not done any such work in a while. Anyway, I think people conflated this with Work Tax and that inflated the score. It needs clarification.

One last question was about what else should be added to the list of issues. The suggestions were as follows:
-Community rebuilding. Crafting a new, new player message. Pushing the forum and IRC channels again in government newspapers, and trying to contact expats and see if they would move home now that the taxes are fixed.

-Keeping Canadian money in Canadian hands. Helping out the eAmericans in their revolution is also something we should work on.

-Abolish congress.

-Concentrate on funding for MU, which would be split acording to dmg they delt. Whihc means, if one MU can deal 30 mil dmg per battle she gets "x" CC, and another MU can deal 15 mil dmg per battle, that MU gets "x/2" CC. They dmg should be calculated acording egov. This is important, coz country is strong as their MUs are. With better funding of MU, we could get not only our Canadians back to country, but also recrut strong individuals maybe...

-looking for new possible alliance, i'm happy with Asgard ATM but many are not

-LET ME BACK IN!!!! -Corrigan

-Getting our E😜ats back into eCanada and ensuring that supplies are very cheap for the next week/month.

-Foreign relations is a big one - mainly with the USA at this point

You seem fascinated with America, ex-Pats, and money. Of these, I like money, since this concerns me each day as I try to get more food and save up for guns or upgrades. If America and the ex-Pats can bring us more of these things, then I might develop a fascination, too. For now, I’m too hungry to really find them all that interesting. And so far I’m a little nonplussed with what the cat dragged back in and one Pat seems like enough for us to handle as it is.

I made a survey about the top 2 questions. It’s simple and meant to clarify my first messed up attempt at figuring out what the public wants.

The survey asks:
1. Now that the work tax has been changed to 1%, do you want other taxes adjusted?
Yes
No

Follow-up question:
2. Please list the tax you most want to see changed and the % you would like it set at.
Go crazy on this one. Tax the bananas and the boxes they are shipped in.

3. What needs to be done by Congress to help new players?
I left this as an essay box, mainly because I have no idea what options to list.

4. Bonus question on the “Other Issues” you provided in the last survey.

This article seems long enough. So I’m going out to get some fresh summer air while we still have August to enjoy. Catch you all later, well that and whatever else you happen to throw my way.

nom, nom, nom. at least the air is free
