Program Spotlight: Meals on Wheels Program

Day 1,564, 21:32 Published in USA USA by USA Department of the Interior

Hello to all our fellow eRepublikans!

You may have heard the whisperings, but we are here to confirm those rumors are true. The Department of the Interior is back! This newspaper will be updated frequently highlighting the wonderful programs, and special events, we provide to the citizens of the United States. We’ll be bringing you current information, program details, and also shiny new graphics that look prettier.

This issue, we’ll be discussing the Meals on Wheels Program.

In a nutshell, MoW provides food support for new citizens of the eUS. We frequently serve as the first point-of-contact between the DoI and a new user, so we provide information about other DoI programs, as well as, some useful links to help new players to get involved with the community. It's not just about food handouts, but trying to engage new users at the first opportunity and keep them involved so that they can become productive members of the eUS society.

We sat down with Kodos, the MoW Director, for more information about the MoW Program.

It's pretty straightforward, actually. We have a request form at http://tinyurl.com/MoW2012 that users can fill out. After that, we validate all of our requests and then send food support to those who qualify, along with some advice and helpful links to get them involved in the eUS. We are often the first point-of-contact with a new citizen, so we try to make sure they are aware of the support and education programs available to help them integrate with the community both in-game and on the eUS forums.

We are mostly supplied through the DoI budget line item from the CBO, but we get food from DoI fundraisers and donation drives as well. We have had substantial donations from prominent eUS citizens, as well as, other citizens who have consistently provided us with food at discounted prices to get more bang for our buck.

We get as many as 50 unique requests in a day. A lot of users will request every day, while others just request when they need a little extra to keep them going. I was once a recipient of MoW support and it helped me to get more involved with the community. Molly Emma, our very own Secretary of Interior and Director of B4N, was a frequent user of MoW as well!
