Metamorphosis of eRepublik
Semper5
The most exciting aspect of the game, the one that makes me keep on playing since v1, since legendary alliances of ATLANTIS and PEACE until today, was an economy module. A simulation was so realistic that it gave us feeling as we're really managing companies, running business, making profit and sometimes loosing it. How was that possible? Why it was so realistic?
Well, because the module was based on "principle of supply and demand", the same way as it's in a real world. Although it's a virtual world, a simulation, principles that the module was based on was real. The same applies to former monetary market. Predicting, speculating, sometimes profiting and sometimes loosing...it was all a part of the game and it was really exciting. So it was not only the reason for me to keep playing, but also to buy gold packs dozen times and invest it in my business projects.
As for politics and wars, those modules were also interesting, although the war module was a much more interesting and exciting than it it today (IMHO).
But where we are today? After several major changes of economy module during time, implementing last changes and canceling currencies and monetary market in global finally killed the economy module. Everything that was so exciting about it dissapeared.
I don't know for what reason but "Plato" decided to accentuate the war module. But talking about war aspect of the game, I must say I'm not impressed. If and when I want to play some war simulation, there's so many such games out there that are true war simulations. Compare to those, eRepublik war module is ridiculous.
So, I've decided to continue playing for now. For how long, it depends. But I definitely won't buy gold packs anymore. Because it just became meaningless to me. Economy module is dead and I'm definitely not interested in war module enough to pay for it. When it comes to playing war games, I would rather pay for CoD, WoW or something like that.
It was great while it lasts, but now it's over. Onces the best online world simulation game became a sort of "bazooka game".
Good luck to all.

"How many powerbars can I eat before the timer runs out and my bazookas are all used up?" is a great point-and-click adventure game. What are you talking about!?
It's unfortunate they have removed most of the old 'physics' of the game that relied on what players only produced. Wars and currency exchange are automatic, as well as feeding and equipping yourself. Is the "Easy Button" what we really want in a game?
No, it's not if you ask me. Where is excitement of the game with Easy button? There is no challenge in this game anymore.
The economy module was never good.
Seriously, in nearly 4 years of playing I've never thought "wow, the econ module has gotten so much better" the only exception was the beginning of V1 and the introduction of Raw Materials.
I liked the raw materials and complexity of V2... except it was *too* confusing and complex so the general user hated it. And since they hated it, and enough people refused to learn/use it - all the economies of the world went into a death spiral... thus necesitating the simplification of the entire system.
I think the current process began there - and since it worked and likely improved RL profits - then the RL company decided to continue down that path.
