Don't let the media die!

I would have to say the latest change to the media module whereby all articles must be categorised and only the category names are visible on the home page have not had a positive effect on my eLife.

I always enjoyed seeing the top news articles the moment I login, and I'm not sure why that needed to change. I haven't done any analysis (that would require effort 😛) but it seems to me that globally there is less interest in writing and reading articles now. That is a real shame, as the media module is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game.

We could sit about whining and moping (that's always worked well in the past) or maybe we just need to accept it and change our behaviour. Here's a couple of things I've been doing:

* If you see an article you like, shout it so your friends might also read it.
* Ignore the categories and use the new link under the community menu item.

That is as close as you can get to the 'old' experience, and lets you view the top news articles or the most recent ones. This is also where you can choose to view articles from the newspapers you're subscribed to.

MOST IMPORTANTLY keep on reading and writing articles, voting and commenting. Get on your soap box and let your voice be heard!
