Congressional Wake-Up Call

Day 524, 14:14 Published in USA USA by Cromstar

Citizens and especially members of Congress,

I feel a pressing need to get this off my chest and out into the open for the public to see. I've never before thought this was an issue, as my first two terms in Congress were relatively pleasant and informative, but I see a disturbing trend that must be cut off before we indoctrinate one of the largest classes of freshmen Congressmen in a culture of ignorance, accusation, and bickering.

I am talking about political confrontation between the parties in Congress. More specifically, I am talking about a growing undercurrent and tone in the Congressional threads that seems to imply that partisanship is the way for Congress to go.

Now, I have served two full terms in Congress, and in those two months I never once saw a party-on-party brawl. Even the previous Speaker of the House election wasn't bad. Nobody cared that the three candidates may or may not have had a lot of experience (heck, it was One Eye's first term, I do believe). Nobody cared that the USWP didn't have a candidate running. In fact, no one even MENTIONED the candidates' parties to begin with. I mean, the USWP voters put kyle into the position in the first place, if I'm not mistaken.

Yet here we are on day 2 of the 17th Congress, and we've already begun to skirt the dangerous line between debate and partisan propaganda. It is true this past election was a bit unfriendly. I fully admit that I rode on that wave and used it as a tool to advance the interests of RightCon. I am not denying that. But I am not going to give anyone else a pass on that either. Everyone was involved in that stuff. The Feds, the USWP, the Libs, the CvP, the UIP...I think the AAP had the cleanest noses in the entire ordeal. We all did some pretty bad things, said stuff we maybe shouldn't have in retrospect.

But that doesn't matter now. As one of my political science professor put it, "There's campaigning and there's governing. The second campaigning is done, everything said and done before that point is thrown in the garbage and governing begins. That's why Senators, Presidents, and Representatives say a lot of stuff about how the other party sucks, but turn around and sponsor a bi-partisan bill after elections end."

Well, its time to govern. I don't care what party you are in. You shouldn't care what party I am in. If you do, well...just remember that you reap what you sow. If you insist on framing things in a partisan way, then so will others around you. We don't want and we don't need that.

I implore all Congressmen to forget about parties until late May. Between now and then, they are meaningless. Let's keep it that way, in the game and out of the game.
