Congressional Wake-Up Call
Cromstar
Citizens and especially members of Congress,
I feel a pressing need to get this off my chest and out into the open for the public to see. I've never before thought this was an issue, as my first two terms in Congress were relatively pleasant and informative, but I see a disturbing trend that must be cut off before we indoctrinate one of the largest classes of freshmen Congressmen in a culture of ignorance, accusation, and bickering.
I am talking about political confrontation between the parties in Congress. More specifically, I am talking about a growing undercurrent and tone in the Congressional threads that seems to imply that partisanship is the way for Congress to go.
Now, I have served two full terms in Congress, and in those two months I never once saw a party-on-party brawl. Even the previous Speaker of the House election wasn't bad. Nobody cared that the three candidates may or may not have had a lot of experience (heck, it was One Eye's first term, I do believe). Nobody cared that the USWP didn't have a candidate running. In fact, no one even MENTIONED the candidates' parties to begin with. I mean, the USWP voters put kyle into the position in the first place, if I'm not mistaken.
Yet here we are on day 2 of the 17th Congress, and we've already begun to skirt the dangerous line between debate and partisan propaganda. It is true this past election was a bit unfriendly. I fully admit that I rode on that wave and used it as a tool to advance the interests of RightCon. I am not denying that. But I am not going to give anyone else a pass on that either. Everyone was involved in that stuff. The Feds, the USWP, the Libs, the CvP, the UIP...I think the AAP had the cleanest noses in the entire ordeal. We all did some pretty bad things, said stuff we maybe shouldn't have in retrospect.
But that doesn't matter now. As one of my political science professor put it, "There's campaigning and there's governing. The second campaigning is done, everything said and done before that point is thrown in the garbage and governing begins. That's why Senators, Presidents, and Representatives say a lot of stuff about how the other party sucks, but turn around and sponsor a bi-partisan bill after elections end."
Well, its time to govern. I don't care what party you are in. You shouldn't care what party I am in. If you do, well...just remember that you reap what you sow. If you insist on framing things in a partisan way, then so will others around you. We don't want and we don't need that.
I implore all Congressmen to forget about parties until late May. Between now and then, they are meaningless. Let's keep it that way, in the game and out of the game.

Voted. Bring down the divide!
I've said it once and I'll say it again...it's time to put eUSA first. Great article Cromstar.
Agreed 😉 Well put 😉
Hear hear!
True, it doesn't matter what party anyone is in.
But it's funny to me how this is being written by someone whose previous newspaper article was all about stopping another party.
I believe it was Washington(and several other founding fathers) who claimed that partisanship would be our downfall.
Good article Cromstar. If you want to work with someone who doesn't place party politics first, look me up. In fact, I think I even ran with that in my platform. And to be honest, I don't know which Party you are part of without looking.
a very level-headed and honest argument cromstar, excellent as usual.
voted, agreed
and here is an article that relates quiet well to this one - http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/what-it-means-to-be-a-good-congressman-787803/1/20" target="_blank">http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/what[..]1/20
Anyone who is new to Congress or wants to be in Congress needs to read it
One day mark my words you will be President of eUSA.....Great Job Crom
Vote and already subscribed
I concur.
As I said, Ligtreb, I knowingly acknowledge that I participated in the wave of partisanship during the election campaigns. That was campaigning; this is the time for governance.
In the thread that this is concerning I made a post that I think can quite easily make this evadent as to waht should happen.
In the words of Bastion, "preach it".
Man, I like that Cerb guy A LOT. 😉
Great article, Cromstar. It's time to govern, so let's get to it.
Agreed look forward to working with you all
Wonderfully state, Cromstar. I completely concur, time to roll our sleeves up and get to work.
Well I hope this partisan sentiment washs out of governance. But what do you expect when you play it up in the elections? It will take a while to happend, but hopefully it will reside. Lets hope that partisan politics doesn't become a mainstay in elections OR congress. Remember, you vote for the person not the party on election day. (A bit idealistic ey?)
Actually Lorenzo, you vote for the party on Congressional elections and then the person. It's a flaw that the eRepublik admin fail to fix despite popular discontent.
Cromstar, mad respect to your interests in toning down the partisan rhetoric, but you can certainly see how this might seem a little disingenuous coming from the same guy who made the whole of the last election campaign an attempted 4-on-1 dogpile.
Furthermore, I don't see why it's so unreasonably partisan that the party that won the most votes and a plurality of seats in congress should want to put forward its own candidate for the Speakership.
Already addressed the first part, Dru.
Second, I never once complained about SoH elections. Merely the tone that the thread had taken. KT is a good guy, and the USWP has every right to run a candidate.
However, when your PP goes and talks about how the other two candidates are biased when he set the whole thing off is equally disingenuous.
Great article Crom.
Ahh let's forget all that hateful crap we said about each other don't fall on the grass as your fellow congressman shoots you in the back of the head, he just cut that grass. Love politics.
Good job and voted.
Voted. I said much the same thing in the debate between candidates for Speaker of the House. We all take some knocks on the campaign trail, but it's just part of it and you've gotta leave that at the door when you actually come into Congress. It's good to hear the new Speaker echoing my thoughts on this and I'm sure you'll make a fine one.
Many good points made that perhaps politicians in this country would do well to listen to.
"However, when your PP goes and talks about how the other two candidates are biased when he set the whole thing off is equally disingenuous."
I have been a congressman far longer that I have been a Party President, and I felt compelled to identify that the previous rhetoric used (just 2 days before) indicated a complete unwillingness to reach across party lines in a leadership position. That would be bad for Congress as a whole.
I would also note that the laissez-faire attitude regarding campaign rhetoric as stated in this article could also be assumed to be present in the campaigning necessary to obtain the position od Speaker of the House, wherein the members of congress are told about the multipartisan intention of the Speaker of the House that are never actually applied after election to the position.
I am happy to say that Cromstar was elected SoH and appears to be applying multipartisanship, but to state that negative campaign rhetoric should be disregarded as a concern during such an election is the true fallacy being perpetuated.
A more complete explanation of my point in this comment may be found here, for those intereste😛
