A look back at the long road behind us...

Greetings Misters, Misses, and Mouses,

Today I read the following statement in an article by JonathonEdwards “Election Day Concerns
The dynamics of our current CP election have me concerned - two things in particular.
The first one is DMV3, an eCanadian of less than 2 weeks. How can the eCanadian community be so quick to put their hopes and trust in someone they know - personally - for such a short time?

I have to agree that the same question crossed my mind. Not really in a worried way, but more just as a “Well, isn’t that strange” kind of way.

For me, the “waaat?” factor begs the question: “How do eCanada’s past presidents stack up as current citizens?” To answer that question, I crunched the stats from the election page:

Total Born and Bred, Never Left Home, Tried&True, YaddaYadda eCanadians: I don’t know, you tell me

When I first took on this funny side-project, I thought: “46 elections, wow that is a lot.” I figured there would be a large number of past presidents to track. Surprisingly, as I worked through the first couple years of data, there were very few past presidents living in eCanada.

When I got down to a total of only 18 living presidents, I was surprised that so many past presidents were no longer even playing (38%, to be exact). Then, I calculated that only 28% (9/33) of past presidents were still living and currently residing in eCanada as citizens. Even more strange, there's an even split (9 to 9) between those still playing that remained here and those that left.

So, 72% of those who once were our forefront leaders are not here, dead, or in some ways banned. It’s a surprising track record. At first for me, it did seem odd that a player with only 2 weeks of citizenship in eCanada could become its president so swiftly. However, when I look over the past records and tally up the numbers, DMV3 is the 10th living president to currently have eCanadian citizenship. After 46 elections and 34 presidents, coming in at #10 on the list is either a great political feat or a rather sad statement on eCanada. I choose to be optimistic and welcome DMV3 to do his best and keep the words of alarmists in the back of mind for now.

We seem to accept without alarm that many of our superstar politicians have left the game and the country. I mean, we all know that Canadian actors, comedians, singers, hockey players, lawyers, doctors, and so on leave Canada to gain fame and money south of the border. It naturally feels odd that a superstar from the States should want to come here to make it big. It’s all backwards, right?

So if you start thinking it's odd that the last two presidents spent most of their game in other countries (eUK and eUSA), just remember:

9 players

That’s all there is left of our past political leaders. Gotta wonder what kind of brain drain is going on in this game and how can we put a stopper in that hole.

UPDATE: eUSA Stats and Comparative Analysis

After reading the comments, I updated the 'Recent Arrivals' to eCanada and then thought about which country to compare eCanada to. Naturally, eUSA seemed like the best choice and eUK would be the next choice if I go that far (or you could crunch the stats...lol).

Comparative Study:

eUSA Presidential Survival Rate: 62%
eCanada Presidential Survival Rate: 29%

But then Goran mentioned that 3 past presidents returned, which would have made the survivors as low as 6 out of 31. It seemed interesting to crunch that number, too:

eCanada Presidential Survival Rate in August: 19%

Wow, 19% versus eUSA's 62%!!!

I wondered if it was something to do with the game, like once you become president you win the game and see no reason to keep playing. After looking at eUSA's numbers, that doesn't seem to be the case. I suspect it is eCanada's lack of economy and bonuses. More digging would reveal these facts, but that's enough mucking around in the dirt for today. Time to get outside to play for real.
