A Noob's Endorsement of Jude Connors
Stan Brown
Hello all. I, Stanley Elizabeth Brown, am a noob. It may not seem so due to the age of my account; however, due to the rather negligible amount of that time that I've actually spent playing this game I shall retain the title. I, as a humble and modest noob, have come before you today to endorse one of the two lovely people who is running for CP/D this Thursday. That person, as you may have surmised by the title of this publication is Jude Connors. The rest of this article shall be devoted to why I believe that Jude Connors is the best option for the eUS at this point in time- Enjoy!
Foreign Affairs
Now, it's no secret to anyone that this election has centered itself around foreign affairs. I'm not going to delve deep into the specifics of their plans at all, actually, considering a number of other sources- including the candidates themselves have already covered it many times over. There is one thing that I'd like to stress, though.
The difference of opinion on Foreign Affairs is not nearly as important as everyone makes it out to be. On Jude Connor's side, everyone seems to think that the Wild Owl Doctrine is the primary cause of all the boredom and ennui which defines life in the eUS. Rather, I'd ascribe much of that boredom and ennui to the game of eRepublik itself- this game isn't very exciting folks. On Wild Owl's side, everyone's been screaming about some apocalyptic end to our eLives as we know them if we dare to endanger our position in the delicate network of alliances that exists in the New World.
We must recognize that both Wild Owl and Jude Connors are politicians. Jude may be right- perhaps it might benefit us to shake things up a little bit. Wild Owl may be correct in asserting that this could place us in a rather precarious position. What is crucial to note, though, is that Jude's plans are not some sort of overnight scrambling of our current allegiance. He has made it clear that he aims to begin a gradual process of reevaluating our current standing and slowly shifting to some new position so as to avoid an immediate shitstorm. If this process is really so hellish and damaging to the nation, I doubt it would be absolutely irreversible to the point that the December CP/D can't repair anything you folks imagine might happen.
Citizen Affairs
Now that I've clarified my position on Foreign Affairs and why they're not quite as big a deal as everyone seems to think, let's move on to what I do consider to be fairly important. That would be the candidate's domestic policies. This is the area that, in my humble opinion, is of the greatest importance to your average eUS citizen. Citizen affairs is what really makes one presidency stand out from another in the entertainment sector.
Jude Connors has launched a slew of plans in this area which all seem rather exciting to me. Firstly, he's mentioned plans for creating a federal version of the SFP Movie Night- something which has been a fun event for our party and now hopefully for the nation as a whole. Jude has also announced a Game Night as well where the nation will get together and play various non-eRep games (Hopefully some with gameplay that extends beyond button clicking). Both of these have excellent implications for community building, engagement and general entertainment. Additionally, Jude will continue the successful FeMU program which began in Gnilraps' presidency this month.
Wild Owl has, to my knowledge, expanded little in the way of citizen affairs for our entertainment (Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see any in his articles and he declined to open a Q&A in the SFP forums - not that I blame him for that xD). He has also committed to the continuation of FeMU. When asked by Resoula in the Black Sheep Q&A thread on his plans to engage the community, he had this to say:
This seems to solidify the idea that Wild Owl's presidency will expand little in the way of entertainment or- as the Connors campaign labels it- the "Fun Sector".
War
Both campaigns have clearly stated that they aim to engage in some war to entertain all those folks who favor the combat module. Jude Connors' campaign seems to emphasize that he'll be seeking out opponents who can offer us a real challenge- unlike Spain who we tossed about like a rag doll. Wild Owl's campaign has not seemed to stress that same sentiment; however, that does not mean that it does not plan to do the same.
Excuse me- I don't pay much attention to the war module nor to the candidate's stances on how they're going to utilize it, so this is all I have for you in this area.
Communication
Both candidates have expressed a willingness to increase the effectiveness and meaningfulness of various methods of communication in the eUS; however, Jude Connors does appear to come out on top in regard to the level of detail and ambition of his plans.
Wild Owl noted that one of the three major plans for his presidency is More Information. Elaborating on this, he indicated that in order to achieve this goal, he'd primarily engage with the nation's Military Units in a more informative and connected manor- ensuring that they understand the why of what they do, rather than just receive orders. I did not find any notable statements regarding Wild Owl's plans for the media.
Jude Connors has released a bunch of information regarding his plans for bettering communication in the eUS. Firstly- and perhaps most excitingly- he is planning to bring back eNPR. Secondly, Jude has some exciting new plans to integrate Party Leaders into the federal governing process which you can read about here. To me, these mark a step forward in communication within the eUS that is simply lacking in Wild Owl's own plans for the presidency.
Well, I've covered all I can think about right now so that's it. I hope you enjoyed the article and I hope that you all come out to vote for Jude Connors on the 5th!
tl;dr
Foreign Policy is not as big an issue as it's made out to be. Citizen Affairs and Communication are far more important to this election and Wild Owl simply isn't very committed to the development of those areas.
Comments
I disagree that foreign policy isn't as important as you say, but I appreciate your kind words on my domestic policy and the endorsement.
Thank you friend.
I thoroughly disagree with the thought that FA isn't important. Foreign Affairs is perhaps the greatest stewardship of the presidency, one of the few things left really worth doing. Any changes made there should be thoroughly considered and well planned, as has our primary doctrine been for quite some time. Domestic and communication are also important, but more important than FA? Don't believe so. I would like to see an integration of fun and incentivization instead trivializing what has given us the room to create interesting things like FeMU.
My argument is not that Domestic and Communication stances are more important than Foreign Affairs, but that Domestic and Communication stances are more important than Foreign Affairs in this election. As stated, Jude plans to gradually shift things and- if what he does really turns out to be anywhere near as disastrous as the other side is predicting- it is my opinion that the opposition will have no trouble claiming the CP/D seat in December and reversing whatever minor changes Jude actually put forth.
Of course Foreign Affairs are more important in general; however, any foreign affairs changes that may take place this month- in my understanding of Jude's policy- are going to be gradual and minor.
Wow Excellent Endorsement o7 ... Once I convince my gf to give me 15 minutes I'll add it. I completely agree with your accessment.
