A Look at the World

Day 2,935, 14:09 Published in USA USA by Azazel Romanov

So I got bored and wanted to write something. My interest in the presidential election is waning, so I got on my map maker and decided to mess around a bit. You've already seen the hypothetical expansion of Pacifica as proposed by Auctoritas, so here it is again:

While I'm not sure about adding Cyprus to the mix (nothing against them, I'm just not sure what the value would be), the other choices wouldn't be too bad, though I'd probably switch Cyprus with Portugal and make that the height of Pacifica. One of the good things about the alliance has been its relatively small size, but also its endurance to stay standing and prove itself a capable alliance. Obviously expansion of this sort would likely make us a stronger alliance, but we would still likely be the third alliance if a greater European war broke out from the Greco-Hungarian conflict. This would still mean having to support a side, since precedent (EDEN/TERRA, CoT/TWO, Pacifica/Asteria) seems to support that any third will join with the larger bipolar structure. The potential expansion would still limit our involvement in Europe and mostly adds more American and Asian focus to the alliance. We currently dominate the Pacific, and only Indonesia and Chile seem to be significant opposition in the region. Our occupation of Indonesia though shows that even this is not a huge hurdle to dominance.

Here is the world as it currently stands. Blue is Pacifica nations, orange is Asteria, yellow is Orion, and purple is the newly formed Pluto. Not pictured is Nebula simply because I don't view it as a strong enough alliance to affect anything at the world stage. I have also made Hungary and Greece green, just because. Note that this does not reflect actual borders, simply because I don't have that kind of devotion. What is noticeable is the number of prominent states without any alliance ties at the moment. Poland, Croatia, and Turkey have not joined anything since the fall of Sirius, and many former CoT nations like FYROM, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Chile, and Mexico are also undeclared. This leaves a lot of room for alliance shifts in the future, so we still live in interesting times. I think this is one of the first times so many nations are officially unaligned despite the MPP ties they might hold.

Here is a close up of Europe, the arena where most of eRep's future is decided. Despite being the new kid on the block, I don't see Pluto amounting to any significant influence. Spain and Belgium are either fully or almost completely wiped, and the UK doesn't have the kind of power to liberate these areas without external help. Orion is also not likely to tip the balance. Europe's future will be decided by the choices the unaligned countries make. Right now it appears that Serbia could bolt to form a new bloc with Hungary, while Greece could essentially recreate EDEN with nations like Turkey and Croatia. Pacifica's only area of influence in Europe is the Baltics with Russia, Finland, and Latvia, and we'd likely remain on the periphery of a greater European conflict or in a support role for one of the sides.

Hope that gives some perspective of the world to players who may not pay attention. I assume many already know these sorts of things, but I do enjoy making those maps. Give your own thoughts and perspectives, or maybe future map ideas (I don't want to make this a thing though). Have at it.
