A Journey Down Desolation Row

Day 3,197, 15:28 Published in Canada Spain by Wilfie

Anyone remember that cool cat called Corrigan? He’s the peeping tomcat that would roam about to sneak a peek at people’s shout boxes, then post sordid snapshots in his brief Journey Through Shout Boxes article series. Since that cat won’t be coming back (voluntarily banned), I’m stealing his idea and spinning it my own way.

First, I had to escape from being chained up at The Totally A Real Party Party, where I had been lured way outside town by Etemenanki’s false promise of a good time. Hopping the fence and then running down the street, my first stop on the way back was Clan Wolf, an old pack I had once run with back in the day.

Foxfire’s juice sounded great, but wasn’t the kind you might expect to drink at a party. Some buzz surrounded Oinyo's promises for more activity and bigger things to come in the days ahead. Forever on the outskirts but still aiming high, CW hadn’t changed a bit, which was oddly reassuring.

Next up on the block was the Military Dictatorship Party, a group I remember to be very gung-ho and hell bent on taking no political prisoners. But today the vibe was rather muted, with some sad goodbyes and recent chatter about a missed opportunity. Where was the old MDP?

Trotting further up the street to Beaver Action League, I got the whiff of something stagnant, maybe even rotten, wafting from its seemingly abandoned lot. I got a bad feeling from its whispers of death so quickly moved on to the place next door, much to my nose’s relief.

It looked like there was a parti going on as Quentin waved me over and I think Utat was wondering how a pooch like me had wound up here. There were at least a few folks moving about inside but to me the gist of the conversation was lost in translation, so I politely explained I was more German Weimaraner than French Mastiff, and excuséd moiself out the back door.

At first I thought I took a wrong turn down some back alley as I entered what appeared eCanada’s red light district. I hadn’t recalled a place like this before. Each person I met at Rylde’s Whorehouse kept shouting about running. I wasn’t sure if the police were doing a sweep for johns or if something else more political was amiss, but I didn’t want to take the risk so ran off to what I know to be a safer place.

People were bustling about at the Imperial Party HQ. The old mainstay, Punisher, was there at the door welcoming people in. I recognized Mrischmasch from somewhere and also caught a glimpse of a Wolf inside, too. It seemed they were getting their party prepared quite nicely, and I made a mental note to check back later after stopping by the next weathered mansion perched way up the hill.

At the end of the street up a worn length of steps, as I remember it always being there, was the Canadian Progressive Front's old estate. It’s a place I had know for being stolid and solid, and it saddened me at first to see it covered in graffiti. Upon closer inspection, I saw it was just Nyx Lynx who had plastered the walls, doors, windows with contest posters. Nothing wrong with that yet I had already entered the competition, so paused a moment and looked back down the street to wonder where I should make my new home.

Naturally, as all stray dogs do in this kind of situation, I took out my calculator. Based on results from shouts made over the last two weeks in each party, I devised a simple Average Activity Index Formula to determine where party central currently is in eCanada:

(Unique Commenters (C) + Unique Responders (R) + Unique Likes (L)) / Total Party Members = Average Activity Index (then divided by 3 for each countable category to get a percentile rating)

Here were the results:

Beaver Action League has 13 members but no active comments in the last 2 weeks (25 days ago was the last peep out of them), as such it scores an average activity index of 0.00 or 0%...dead, indeed.

Rylde’s Whorehouse has 37 members, 2 Unique Commenters, No Respondents, 2 Unique Likes, scoring an average activity index of 0.11 or 4%.

Canadian Progressive Front has 42 members, 2 Unique Commenters, 1 Unique Respondent, and 3 Unique Likes, scoring an average activity index of 0.14 or 5%.

Parti Francophone Canadien has 21 members, 1 Unique Commenters (in the last 2 weeks), 1 Unique Respondent, and 2 Unique Votes, scoring an average activity index of 0.17 or 6%.

Imperial Party has 40 members, 4 Unique Commenters, 2 Unique Respondents, 4 Unique Likes, scoring an average activity index of 0.25 or 8%.

As you can see thus far, the average activity of each party is quite similar this far, with one small exception. Basically, a large membership does not a party make, since only a handful show up for a shout. Until we see what’s up at Clan Wolf…

Clan Wolf has 8 Members, 6 Unique Commenters, 5 Unique Respondents, and 2 Unique Likes, scoring an average activity index of 1.6 or 53%.

This basically means the majority of CW at least makes a brief appearance at the party, even if only to like what someone said. Much better than being in a big hall filled with echoes. When there’s little point seriously discussing taxes or planning election platforms, might as well hike outside town to go howl at the moon together. There’s activity in that.

With a couple more members, CW might get a representative into Congress. Who knows.
