9/11 Honor the Fallen

Day 4,679, 15:08 Published in USA Chile by Wilker Nath

If you’re IRL American, you probably pay attention to news/politics a little more than usual around this time on every 4th year.

And if you’re invested more than usual in the news, you’re probably not having a great time, no matter which political camp you find yourself in.

We’re seeing buildings burning, antifa killing proud boys, people shooting at BLM protesters, it’s a mess. And to top it off, most of the killers are being praised as heroes by one side or the other.

So I thought I’d give you a little piece of hope, and tell you about heroes who actually deserve to be praised. Ones who can warrant praise from both sides.

On this day in 2001, some people hijacked some passenger planes and crashed them into buildings in NYC, killing thousands. Other hijackers got another plane, and crashed it into the pentagon in DC.

Those hijackers had some more friends, but these guys didn’t complete their goal. These guys tried to hijack United Airlines Flight 93.

A few hours into the morning, after Flight 93 had been hijacked, and after the other planes had hit their targets, the passengers on board took a vote and decided to fight the hijackers. Regular people, knowing they were going to die, decided to stand up to murdering terrorists.

Between the minutes of 9:57am and 10:03am, the passengers struggled to break into the cockpit, where the hijackers had barricaded themselves. They got in, and a recorder on the plane captured audio of the last moments, as civilians wrestled with the hijackers over control of the plane’s steering.

That recording ended when the plane crashed into an empty field.

There were no survivors of that flight.

But there were no deaths on the ground.

Today, let’s remember and praise the people who gave their lives not to escalate violence, but to prevent it.

Honor the fallen heroes of 9/11.

God Bless America.
