Beste burgers van eNederland,

Dit artikel heeft een dubbele functie. Ten eerste wil ik duidelijk maken wat ik ga doen als Minister van Binnenlandse Zaken en Informatie, ten tweede wil ik jullie oproepen om actief te worden op het forum, voor zover jullie dat nog niet zijn.

Minister van Binnenlandse Zaken en Informatie

Na Shakerrs vertrek ben ik, als staatssecretaris van Binnenlandse Zaken en Informatie, door onze premier Daniel Parker gevraagd om de positie van minister over te nemen. Met veel enthousiasme en met een voorbeeld in mijn voormalig superieur heb ik die taak op me genomen.

Als minister draag ik zorg voor de officiële communicatie van de regering naar de burgers toe. Dit houdt in dat ik ernaar streef elke week een update van de regeringswerkzaamheden te publiceren. Het is van essentieel belang voor de bevolking dat men weet wat er gedaan wordt en wat dat eventueel kan betekenen voor hun levens.

Daarnaast ben ik belast met het basaal inlichten van nieuwe spelers, zodat die een beetje wegwijs worden in de voor hen nog grotendeels onbekende wereld. Daarvoor zijn ook handleidingen te vinden op het forum, maar artikelen in deze krant zijn toch net wat toegankelijker voor hen die de lange weg naar het forum nog niet hebben gevonden.

Vertaalwerk

Zoals jullie vast weten, heb ik me sterk gemaakt voor een tweetalige overheidscommunicatie. In dat kader heb ik een Tweede Kamerdebat aangevraagd en een vertaalforum laten aanmaken. Hierin kunnen ministers vertalingen aanvragen voor officiële artikelen, voor zover zij die zelf niet kunnen verzorgen. Momenteel doe ik het meeste vertaalwerk nog zelf, maar ik zou jullie hulp ten zeerste op prijs stellen. Zie je het belang van tweetalige communicatie in en kun je je goed redden in zowel Nederlands als Engels, kijk dan regelmatig op dit forum of er nog vertaalwerk is.



Forum

Hierboven is het woord ‘forum’ al een paar keer gevallen. Bij de oude Grieken en Romeinen was het forum (of agora in het Grieks) de belangrijkste ontmoetingsplaats voor de burgers. Hier werd handel gedreven, recht gesproken, er werden wetten en beleid gemaakt en men kwam er simpelweg om andere mensen te ontmoeten en lekker bij te kletsen.

Op het forum van eNederland gebeurt dit allemaal ook. Je kunt er informatie vinden over het spel, waaronder handleidingen, en je kunt er terecht met al je vragen. Daarnaast kun je er de grondwet en andere wetten van ons land vinden, zodat je weet wat je moet doen om ze te overtreden. Ook vindt alle politiek op dit forum plaats; er zijn aparte secties voor de politieke partijen en de regering. Daarnaast is er een openbare debatsectie, waar iedereen kan meepraten over belangrijke vraagstukken voor ons land. Iedere stem telt, dus laat vooral je mening horen!

Dan zijn er nog de informele aspecten van het forum: net als op het antieke forum, kun je er gewoon met anderen praten (maar er is ook een chat). Hiervoor is een apart gedeelte ingericht, waar je het over alles kunt hebben. Dus wil je kwijt dat je een ingegroeide teennagel hebt of heb je een vraag over de behandeling van een suïcidale goudvis? Ga dan naar de sectie ‘Offtopic’.

Met al deze functies is het forum het kloppende hart van onze gemeenschap. Zonder deze ontmoetingsplaats had de gemeenschap waarschijnlijk niet eens bestaan. Meld je dus aan op het forum en word een onlosmakelijk deel van de eNederlandse gemeenschap! (Zie hier voor instructies. Nieuwe spelers krijgen een mooie startbonus!)

Bij deze wil ik jullie ook nog aansporen om aan iedereen die je kent te vertellen hoe leuk eRepublik is! En meld je aan als recruiter, om meer mensen naar ons land te halen.

Dear citizens of the eNetherlands,

This article has two functions: first, I want to explain what I will be doing as Minister of Interior and Information; second, I would like to urge you to become active on the forum, if you aren’t already.

Minister of Interior and Information

After Shakerr’s resignation I, as State Secretary of Interior and Information, was asked to take over the ministerial post by our Prime Minister, Daniel Parker. With great enthusiasm and with my former superior as an example, I have accepted the post.

As Minister, I take care of the official government communication towards the citizens. In practical terms, that means publishing a weekly update of government activities – if possible. It is very important for the people to know what their government is up to and what that might mean for their own lives.

In addition, I am charged with the general instruction of new players, so they might find their way around in this whole new world. There are tutorials for this on the forum, to which I will of course point every now and then, but articles in this newspaper are simply more accessible for those who haven’t trod the long and arduous path to the forum yet.

Translation activities

As you may know, I have argued for a bilingual official communication. As part of this ideal, I have requested a Congress debate and had a sub-forum made. Here, ministers can request translations of official articles, should they not be able to take care of it themselves. At the moment, I do most translations myself, but your help would be very much appreciated. So if you think bilingual communication is important and if you have adequate Dutch and English skills, please check this forum regularly to see if there are any translation requests.



Forum

The word ‘forum’ has been mentioned a few times above. For the ancient Greeks and Romans, the forum (or ‘agora’ in Greek) was the most important meeting place. There, people traded, there were lawcourts, laws and policies were made and people came there just to have a nice chat with each other.

All this happens on the forum of the eNetherlands too. You can find information on the game, including tutorials, and you can ask all your game-related questions. In addition, you can consult the constitution and national laws, so you know what to do to break them. All political activity takes place on the forum as well; there are separate sections for the government and for political parties. Moreover, there is a public debate section, where Congress debates on important issues. The funny thing is, everyone can participate in these debates, not just members of Congress. So make yourself heard and help building your country!

Then, there are the informal aspects a real forum should have: like on the ancient forum, you can simply have a conversation with others (but there’s a chat too). There’s a different section for this, where you can talk on any and all subjects you want. Do you want to tell everyone you have an ingrown toenail or do you need info on how to treat a suicidal goldfish? Go to the ‘Offtopic’ section.

With all these functions, the forum is the beating heart of our community; without this meeting place, it probably wouldn’t even have existed. So register on the forum and become part of the eDutch community! (Instructions here. There is a nice starting bonus for new players!)
