What Will Plato Do?
Gnilraps
Deployment Madness
Let’s make one thing perfectly clear: this is a problem of Plato’s own making.
I’m not here today to create a controversy or to start an argument about the legitimacy of 3rd party scripts in eRepublik. The fact is, Plato created this problem, and I will show you why. He has made 3rd party scripts the “elephant in the room” such that we wonder if we can even talk about them ingame. Today I will risk talking about them, because Plato has just painted his elephant in colors so brilliant none of us can miss it.
who’s fault is this anyway?
The terms of service clearly states that no third party scripts are allowed by anyone interacting with this game. Those are the terms; we all agree to them, at least in theory.
The Problem
Plato developed a game wherein the reward for being “active” is increased energy gain per hour. At my current level, which I earned without the help of a script by burning energy bars and Prestige Points Boosters last Tuesday until I had reached the 20K Prestige threshold, I currently increase my energy pool by 920 energy per hour. My maximum energy pool is 2940 because I am running all 5 houses.
This means that I must interact with this game every 3 hours and 12 minutes if I want to gain full value from the items I have legitimately and legally activated ingame.
How many citizens of eRepublik plan to interact with any video game once every 3:12:00?
Given that the average Doctor-recommended amount of sleep that a human being should get is 8 hours, Plato has created a game that, if played at its highest level, is actually unhealthy. I’m not using hyperbole.
In other words, if you want to get the most out of this game, you either harm yourself in doing so, or you break the terms of service. I didn’t make it this way, Zordacz didn’t make it this way, Cornelius didn’t make it this way… Plato made it this way.
This is why people use scripts. Plato, do you understand this?
The reason why people use scripts, Plato, is because you have literally designed your military module to DEMAND their use! Do not blame the users, Plato. If you do, you are blind to the problem you have designed.
It’s really that simple.
Further Analysis
Let’s continue using me as an example, even though I am currently an extreme example. (I am running expensive Q4 and Q5 houses - a practice which definitely becomes untenable without the ability to generate True Patriot income to afford them.)
My energy pool is 2,940. I want to sleep 8 hours; I want to be able to work 8 hours. So I want to make sure I am not wasting my resources during at least two 8-hour blocks of time each day. With a 2,940 energy pool, I must not accumulate any more than 36 energy per 6 minutes (360/hour). Any tanking I may do beyond that creates a negative return on my invested tanking.
Bye-bye Prestige Hunter.
Bye-Bye Q3, Q4, and Q5 houses.
Bye-bye Q7 weapons economy.
Bye-bye Food economy.
And Bye-Bye Power Pack.
Seriously. Bye-Bye Power Pack. Why on EARTH would I buy a power pack when most of its value can only be appreciated if I LOSE SLEEP to use it?
Plato, are you understanding this?
The Solution(s)
As I see it, Plato has three options.
Option 1
Implement an ingame energy-burn script of his own. This is what I expect he will most likey do. I anticipate a new 9.9euro “auto-fight” pack that literally duplicates what the illegal 3rd-party scripts have been doing for 10 years.
Option 2
Honestly, Option 1 is so predictable that these next two options are almost not worth mentioning, but they would fix the problem, so here it goes. Option 2 would be to reduce the maximum energy-recovery potential to no more then 400/hour. This seems like a reasonable compromise which enables big hitters to max out their energy recovery without having to burn energy every 3 hours, or set a wake-up-alarm for 2am and 5am every day of their lives.
Option 3
Increase the maximum energy pool. If we are still going to burn through 920 energy per hour, then give us a 10K energy pool to use. I don’t care how you do it, maybe you need to make Q7 houses like you promised us long ago.
Something must be done.
In Summary
I fear that this latest move of Plato, while understandable, will have a rippling effect on the playability of his game. I do not want to see Plato increase the amount of money that someone has to spend in order to get full enjoyment out of this game. For that reason I am hoping to see Plato enact some combination of my Options 2 and 3 above.
What do you think?
I’ll ask you to avoid insulting and incendiary comments below. My newspaper is not a forum for insulting the Administrators of this game. This is also not an issue of bots vs. not-bots. Illegal script use is widespread. Take a look at the number of subscribers Zordacz had to his newspaper - Stuff++ auto-subscribed every user to his paper! These are not mostly bots, they are average users of this game that has designed itself to be nearly unusable within the terms of service.
What will Plato do?

logic not so much
you describe an unhealthy obsession with something purchased, that you must use it at full capacity with no rest because otherwise foolish. any device treated similarly will fail in time ...
Your need to oppose my every word is not my problem.
"logic", not how trustful you are ... which isn't a problem for me either

I mean, I buy a monthly bus pass because I ride the bus frequently enough it's a better value than paying per trip. I don't ride the bus all day even though my monthly pass permits me.
Relax and quit being pathological.

It does level the playing field for the non-script/auto fighters out there that check in 4-5 times a day to spend their energy.
It does piss off people who have dedicated years and years of playing this game in a way the admin clearly knew was happening and tolerated.
It could cost them money as your analysis indicates so I think option 1 is the only way they can keep up their income.
I don't see many players quitting the game. Most of the XX Legends don't need rank points and are already there because of running scripts all these years.
It's a weird play by Plato and could be viewed in a few years as the death nail in the current military module.
I for one will always hope for a return to V1 military module. That was fun.
I can understand the arguments for and against pretty clearly, but this would be an admin decision to attack more people than those who hate scripts. Doesn't seem to be a decision "for the people" so they must be convinced this is an integrity issue and a critical fix.
I agree that Option 4 would be to so drastically reduce the amount of energy recovery such that fighting becomes a once or twice/day decision. I fondly remember how important it was that I spend what few fights I had in the most critical battle zones. But with all the regions and all the open battles, and all the fighting without need to mobilize and all the energy burn... it's not going to happen that way.
He is either going to make people pay more to play or make it more pleasant to play for those who already pay.
Plato won't allow anything that would decrease the number of battles. It's simply cutting their income.
"Why on EARTH would I buy a power pack when most of its value can only be appreciated if I LOSE SLEEP to use it?"
I agree, i for one wont be renewing mine when it expires in two days time,
a sad day for a great game.
It is a great game. It still could be a great game.
But the one flaw it has always had is being out of touch with its user base.
"out of touch with its user base"
do you regularly check all the email inboxes of the accounts you created for others to script up? maybe their in lies the problem ...
Hello George. Still at it, I see.
not as much as you are. ...
How do I max my VISA investment, you schemed.
It worked too well (went to far) and awoken the most important script.
An accountant's ledger ...
im a two month usser, and i play another brower games that allow scripts, that's not a problem, the problem its play a game with just one strategy.
Im noob here i know, but this change is killing some proper rules of erep like first hit take bh or sh, i think the game needs more events or positive reworks more than killing players play style, all doing the same in each battle? it's a bit hard.
o7
With all the packs I purchase each month, I have a 4690 energy meter and 880/hour recovery. All of the packs I purchase each month are to achieve a goal of Legend XX. The new change to the deploy mode will eliminate most of those packs for reasons mentioned above. It will also eliminate my purchase of the Maverick Pack as that pack requires a hit from a lower division player to be useful. As there are very few or no lower division players who aren't bots or multis, that makes the purchase of that pack unnecessary.
From me, alone, Plato will lose Power Pack (9,9e), Maverick Pack (14,9e), Combat Stash (9,9e), War Stash (9,9e), and Blitzkrieg Pack (14,9e). A total of 59,5e per month.
My guess is that Plato is hoping you will spend an additional amount of money for his script pack.
I guess Plato is free to think whatever he wants.
+1
I don't understand the hit problem in the lower divisions. But other than that, yes, adios packs, as it seems. Makes no sense anymore. I consider creating some 1000 companies for burning FFs overnight but I guess next step from Plato would be captcha for WaM 🙂.
The "hit problem" is that Maverick Pack users are using scripts to cause low-division bots to drop a single hit in the lower divisions so that they can farm those medals.
If they rework the Maverick Pack and remove the need to have a native hit, then the sting from moving to Deploy Mode only wouldn't be as bad for most players.
I'm pretty sure we'd be better off reworking the divisions based on strength and abolishing maverick packs. That or doing something like the hot summer terrains. Suffice it to say, I wouldn't mourn the loss of them.
This is a good idea
not a fighter really yet i gain 20000 expierence points in a week or 4 ranks. as producer i dont have the option to operate without blitzkrieg if i do my whole account is basically switched off. ok with bp + maverick you have a 2200 loss during a night. but ok i can understand having bought packs maybe once or twice this year with actual cash.
that being said deploy have always been very buggy for me for one it doesnt always run like the guerilla fights or it starts after 50 or 60 seconds and then take 4 minutes. we were taught about how changes to software affects businesses. its amazing how many businesses go out of business just because they dont really understand their product and users.
but suddenly expecting everyone that was using scripts to leave scripts is a bit naive. you cant just expect everyone to change how they play erepublik. dont quit though economic module isnts for all but gives one something to do in the game. though who will i sell to now?
I recommended it long time ago: If players like those scripts and need them to make playing better and more enjoyable, why can't plato cooperate with the creators and make an official in-game script and offer it to all the players?
Or simply add all of the mechanics that scripts offer as functions in-game.
randomize everyone's strength every day xd
Well, that would certainly liven things up! I like it!

ps in my second to last article i mentioned putting an option to choose between moving tickets and 22 +100 energy houses that would give you more than enough energy through the day. this was ofc before they canned the fight mode.
Great Article. I think Option 1 is coming - You do not do this without a back up game plan. Admins are going to shut down 3rd party scripts, and monetize creating their own.
1. They went after 3rd party script creators for this reason. They were monetizing these scripts for their benefits (through donations, or keys) basically taking money away from the game.
They will incorporate as much as they can from the scripts, and as much money as they can from the end user. Not only will you continue to purchase 60e per month, you will add 10e more now per user.
It seems like a weird approach, though. Like, if it were me, I'd introduce the new pack *first*, and then disable the old method.
I agree with this, but I think they did not want any competition. By removing 3rd party scripts first, they don't have to compete with those users.
I doubt they would incorporate all of the functionality of the scripts that exist today, meaning users would still use the 3rd party over their own, and they would continue developing those scripts to be better than what Plato was willing to monetize.
I also just realized that doing it this way first also might encourage bots to no longer operate.
I had lost a bunch of sleep back in the days playing OGame so much so that I promised myself never again.
Unless Plato can release a script pack or somehow manage to increase our maximum energy bank (update to the cities module?) this will cripple the Erep economy big time.
Perfect gnilkrap: my bad behavior is everyone else's fault.

George, literally zero in this article is about me.
I am not the one with the problem here George, you seem to be.
Oh, you're the one with the problem. Even your buds know it. It's a symptom of your problem that you don't.
@Dinnyin, you hit the nail on the head.

I like option 2 and 3 as a non pack user. If plato brings option 1 alone then I go back to 2 clicking days and I'll save my electricity bill I pay due to my laptop forever on running scripts.
