The Art of the Filibuster

Day 4,818, 21:09 Published in USA USA by TheJadedDragQueen

The art of the Filibuster is a heavily underappreciated technique. Used in times of stalling, the Filibuster is meant to delay the voting until members of the congress (or senate respectively) leave to provide a more favorable outcome for the person or side that is Filibustering. Like in wrestling, you can give the floor to another on your side to continue on the filibuster or stand there yourself talking until you are blue in the face. Some have read articles in the paper to even a spouse's family cook book.

I however would find it rather entertaining if the representative (or senator, respectively) were to read excerpts from their personal diary, the juicier the better. It would make great works of literature, especially if details of sordid affairs were brought to attention. That makes good tv, at least make the filibuster entertaining. The alternative would be to read screen plays from some of their favorite tv shows. Might I suggest RuPaul's Drag Race, which has some colorful dialogue and slang that would make for a very entertaining filibuster! Starting a musical number has never been off the table either, however with one person only speaking, get ready for some solo ballads or dramatic self-discovery solo numbers. However, I'm sure that the option for dancing is off the table. So, for those who are looking to express themselves in dance will have to refrain from doing number 17, the Spread Eagle.

So when you find yourself with the opportunity to filibuster, keep these ideas fresh in your head. For you never know when you have to liven up the crowd. Who knows, maybe a little song (without the dance, respectively) could be used to persuade others to join your popular opinion. Until then, Happy Filibustering.
