Subject : Dark Orchid, Cracked Rubble

Liberty Hall, Dublin, Japanese Occupied Ireland
Day 4304, eRep Time 14:00

I expected Liberty Hall to be more impressive than this. But all it is, is another war torn tall building in a wreck. The only tall building I’ve seen in this rat nest town. I had orders to join these Rasa rebels from Father. I’d to disguise myself by dyeing my long, white hair and brows jet black and wearing green contact lenses. With clothes bought by Lacey at one of the Civ second hand clothes stores. Sure she went out of her way to find ones as scratchy as possible. I’ll deal with her when I get back from this mission. I’ll have her doing squats with a brillo pad in her knickers. At least with it being in Ireland my very light skin is not noticeable.

I was stopped at a roadblock about 100 meters up the road from Liberty Hall and asked to show my papers, while also explaining my business. After a quick check with the soldiers at the checkpoint running their eyes over me like I would be the least bit interested in them, I had to resist the urge to take them out right then and there. I was directed to the militia recruitment office on the lower floor of Liberty Hall. I queued up for what seemed like a lifetime with Civs, I could hardly breathe. I entered and saw some scruffy average looking young soldier working on a computer. He looked up and saw me. "Yes what can I help you with?." he asked.

"I'm here about joining the militia." I replied with a breezy smile.

"Take a seat." he said while waving his hand at an almost empty courtyard of wooden chairs.

"Name and papers please." he spoke while looking down my low cut top at my boobs.

"Greta Mauseth, what's your name?" I replied and handed over my forged papers, leaning far over his desk so he could get a good look at my assets. I stifled a smile as his eyes widened. He coughed while trying not to appear to be looking at them.

"So what's your story." he asked leaning back with an effort and typing on his computer.

"I'm from Norway. I was part of a Partisan unit named Fenrirsdozen, before Goshawk took it out six months ago. I was fortunate to escape and managed to make my way to a refugee camp near Geneva in Switzerland. I stayed there until I heard about your cause here over pirate Comms. That people were needed to fight the people who killed my unit."

He stared at his computer screen while making sidelong glances at my chest for a while before clearing his throat and asking. "Which refugee camp?"

"I moved around, not exactly one…" I mumbled, the name I had been given had slipped my mind. These scratchy rough smelly, flea infested Civ clothes, Lacey was definitely going to pay for this, didn't help my thinking, not to mention the smell of this ruin. With great effort I didn’t scratch the itches. What was I thinking agreeing to do this. To spite Annie I suppose. G*d forbid either of the Metz brothers doing something useful. I breathe through my nose, exhaled through my mouth. That gave me a clear view, far ahead.

He stared at me for a few minutes before finishing and stamping the form. "That backpack all you have?" I just nodded. He stood up and left the room for a few minutes, before coming back holding a Stamped Rasa Blank ID and some papers. "Keep this ID and papers on you at all times, this paper has the number of the tent you have been assigned, you'll be sharing with another girl. This is your work assignment. We are still clearing rubble you can get started today just follow the noise. You can get a pickaxe and work clothes down that hall." he leant over the desk and pointed down one of the halls while staring down my front again. Leaning back with a slight smile he said “Meet you outside here tonight for dinner? I know a great place that is still going not far from here.”

“I don’t think so! You’re not my type!” I snapped and got up picking up my backpack and sauntered down the hall swinging my hips for maximum effect, I heard him gasp behind me but didn't turn around. I'd got partly where I wanted to be now I just needed to work my way into Rasa themselves. I put all thought of the little rat out of my mind.

Spent the rest of the day clearing rubble with others, well appeared to don’t think they noticed, as everyone was concentrating on the clearing. My companions were really smelly and scruffy looking, and one of the boys kept working right next to me, until a few well placed elbows made him move off, he actually thought I'd be interested in him. Disgusting bunch but I'll have to put up with it for now. We headed for lunch and he placed himself firmly beside me, and tried to flatter me, and get me to go walking in the evening with him. Got better things to do tonight, not least of all picking up my first delivery of type 4s, I’ll need plenty of them with having to deal with these pieces of trash. Soon after we headed back to another section to dig a trench for dead fish that were being recovered from destroyed buildings. Finally it was over and I made my way to the communal showers for a quick shower before heading to my tent. Really needed to change the contacts they were really irritating my eyes from all the dust.

I checked the tent was empty before getting the new ones and an eyewash out of my bag. After removing the old ones and flushing my eyes I heard a noise behind me and turned to see what I presumed was my tent mate about to tap me on the shoulder. She gave a startled yelp and left quickly. I recognized her from the clearing earlier, I'd have to deal with her later when most people were asleep. Quickly placing new lenses in my eyes, and grabbing a few type 4’s which I chewed quickly, I had been promised a continuous supply in the cellar of a nearby bombed building, I exited the tent and headed to the communal one to get supper.

What a banal lot. They talked about nothing but the work were doing and what a great unit Rasa was. I forced myself to smile and talk agreeably, but the whole time I could feel Sylvia my tent mate's eyes on me. She had definitely seen something no question I'd have to deal with her soon.

As I exited the communal tent I felt a tap on my shoulder. A soldier was standing there "You're wanted inside bring your stuff." he said before giving me directions. As I went to collect my stuff I wondered what was going on but I'd soon find out. I made a detour to the stash of my Type 4s delivery, a building about 500 metres from Liberty Hall, and quickly took six of them before heading to where I had been directed. Thought I saw movement as I exited the cellar and thought about checking out the shadow I thought I had seen, but I had a meeting to attend. Father had made sure to have a large bag of type 4s delivered, he knows me well and how I would need them, which will keep me going for a long time. He’s been looking very worried and distracted lately I wonder why, I could see in his face he didn’t want to send me here but I’m the only one he trusts to get the job done..

I entered an office deeper in Liberty Hall. A fairly handsome brown haired man with glasses and a mustache, sat at a desk. "Take a seat and tell me your story." he stated blandly, with a light irish accent. After hearing me out, he looked down at some papers after likely confirming what I said to what I had said to the previous recruitment officer. "You don't remember the name of one of the camps you were at." His face remained emotionless as I shook my head. "Any specific training while part of your unit?"

"I have had sniper training and pretty good at it." I stated and he nodded thoughtfully, while his eyes took me in, but he seemed to be disinterested in my looks. His gaze seemed to stare right into me, as he just sat there looking at me. I felt a shiver go through me, but he glanced down at the papers again and straightened them, before starting to stand.

The door suddenly opened and a woman I recognized walked in, Gráinne Sweeney. She looked as startled as I did. "Sorry didn't realize you had someone with you Winters" she said softly.

He looked at her and replied "Ah good you're here just need to do a few things if you can keep an eye on her while I'm gone." She nodded and he picked up his papers and left.

"What are you doing here?" she hissed at me. "This is a dangerous place for you."

"Orders from Father and the Academy." I replied "What are you doing here?"

"Orders from the academy, but they've gone too far this time too many people know you. This is dangerous Astrid leave while you can."

“I can take care of myself thank you Gráinne.” she was really beginning to irritate me but I kept my face bland.

“This isn’t a game they take things very seriously, they are not amateurs.”

“Neither am I, I can take care of myself!” I forced myself not to shout at her raised voices would not be good here. Dealing with people who think they know everything is really annoying.

I asked her questions about Rasa but she refused to say much beyond who they were and their descriptions. After a while I gave up and impatiently waited in silence.

The door opened and the man named Winters re-entered. “I’ll need to check you for weapons, before we go any further, and empty your backpack.” he stated, staring directly in my eyes as he said it. I emptied my backpack and stood quietly while he patted me down for weapons, his hard fingers seemed to feel everywhere. His eyes widened slightly at the size of the packet of Type 4’s in my backpack but he said nothing. He picked up one of my boxes of contact lenses thoughtfully, but they were in a generic box, with a false prescription stamped on them and he didn’t open them. After going through everything in my rucksack, he ordered me to empty my pockets. Finally he seemed satisfied. "If you will come with me there's some people who want to meet you.” he said, his face seemed to have hardened while he was gone, something had changed in his eyes.

I stood up and re-packed my backpack, and placed the loose stuff from my pockets back in them before I picked it up and walked to the door on the other side of the office from where I had entered, which he was holding open, he held one hand on the pistol holstered at his waist, I could see a long passage with a door at the end. It appeared I had passed appraisal so easy to do this, father was right to choose me for this mission. Although his eyes showed nothing, I couldn't help a feeling of unease come over me. I shook it off I had got this far getting further would be easy. I heard a sob and turned around to see Gráinne wiping tears from her eyes. I smiled and waved, looked like my mission was going well and I wouldn't have to go back to the cattle camp of the Militia. Squaring my shoulders I followed Winters out the door on my way to what I was sure was Rasa Blank.

Signing off,
