At least three people were killed in an Israeli attack on Syrian territory adjacent to a Russian military base in the country on Sunday (14/😎.
"The aggression resulted in the death of three soldiers, injuring three others," a Syrian military source told the state news agency SANA, quoted by AFP.

Two Syrian military sources told Reuters the attack targeted a site run by the pro-Hezbollah group, a Lebanese group that backs Iran. Despite targeting pro-Iranian sites, this attack has been in the spotlight because it is located near a Russian military base in Syria.

So far, Israel has often carried out attacks in Syrian areas related to Iran, but has never approached the area where the Russian military is based.

However, this time the attack took place near Russia's only naval base in Tartous. There, Russian warships docked.

The area is also adjacent to Latakia Province. In that area, there is an air base that houses Russian troops, namely Hmeimim.

Throughout the civil war raging in Syria, Russia has indeed helped the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. They often cooperate with Iran, which is Israel's mortal enemy.

Usually, Russia ignores Israeli attacks on pro-Iranian sites in Syria. However, recently, relations between Israel and Russia were strained due to the invasion of Ukraine.
