Reading all the vitriolic mud-slinging and name-calling going around in eUK at the moment makes me wonder if we're not all still kids in a playground on a bad day.

Is it beyond us to behave like "grown-ups"?

You can disagree with me on anything you like, and I with you, but we don't have to resort to the sorts of pointless and seemingly endless slanging matches we're seeing so much of in these troubled times.

Please let's all agree to have mature discussions and remember that we are supposed to be operating in a Democracy. That means I have every right to disagree with any policy - and vote against it - but I also have the duty to abide by the majority decision once it's taken.

So come on, eUK, let's get united and start to behave like grown ups, and get behind the present eUK Government plan to clean things up around here.

I couldn't agree more but, while not justifiable, this is why the mud-slinging happens.

Not every player is a badly behaved kid, we also have a number of very astute political minds, well versed in the efficacy of propaganda and willing to ply their hand at said dark-art to get votes. The sad fact is that it's not especially difficult to confuse people with misinformation, personal attacks, etc. The skill comes in steering the resulting chaos to your advantage and not tarnishing your reputation too badly.

Generally people get away with flinging mud constantly, because those people who support/switch then feel a sense of ownership in the behaviour displayed, by agreeing with that person once, they feel their required to continue to agree unfailingly. This leads down a path where the person is making excuses for why they are supporting behaviour they don't perpetrate themselves.
