[TB] General Musings in Regards to Attempted Fresh Starts

Day 5,242, 18:31 Published in USA USA by Tyler Bubblar

I have always and will always love WildOwl. He and I have been friends since 2013. For years we worked very closely together in forging an Alliance between our two respective parties. We were not always in lockstep, but we both knew that was okay. It came to my attention recently the identity of Patanok. I was not privy to it, but that is due to my own lack of involvement in socializing. My gameplay these days is mostly doing my food fights, checking the Party wall for the purposes of Party membership programs, and reading new articles when they pop up. I wrote a Croatia gonna Croatia troll article when they yet again during Voots terms showed why no one should have to be in their orbit at least in eRepublik, but ultimately decided not to publish it. That said, thank you Croatia for confirming the eUSA made the right choice in leaving your bloc. The Allies you still have deserve better.

I have also always had the same account, and will always have the same account. I understand why some players who have been at this a long time are tempted to roll new accounts. You do this long enough you get a reputation. You make mistakes. You do great things. You make friends. You make enemies. It's inevitable. There are things I have done in my erep time that if I could undo, I totally would. There are also things I chose not to do that in retrospect I wish I had taken a chance on. I doubt I am the only old player that feels this way at times. Regrets and second guessing oneself in life and apparently eRepublik are inevitable.

Gnilraps and WildOwl are two players that did very consequential things in the history of the eUSA. The eUSA as it has existed for the last decade is inseparable from those two individuals for a multitude of reasons. This is well known by I would imagine most anyone still playing this game. I also know from experience that the two of them are election juggernauts. In April of 2014 I ran what I felt was the perfect campaign for Country President. I had the endorsement of 13 parties including my own when Gnilraps announced he was running for Re-election at a very late stage in the cycle I had hoped to win or at least be competitive. The month prior when I ran against him he defeated me in a landslide. This time around it was no different, the margin was slightly closer but it was still a resounding defeat.

The election we had once upon a time for Country President in which WildOwl and Gnilraps went head to head was epic. It was a very narrow margin of victory for Gnilraps. Between the two of them they have 16 Country President terms. I once had a conversation with Gnilraps when he was playing as Krapis about why he was doing so. It was a private conversation between the two of us and nothing particularly sensitive or outrageous was said by Gnilraps in regards to the why, but I will keep what he said private and simply say this: what he said about why made sense to me, and yes I knew Krapis = Gnilraps so did a lot of people which is why when he ran for President no one was particularly concerned about an inexperienced player taking over.

My reason for bringing this up is two fold. Some have acted like Gnilraps was trying to pull a fast one and sneak into power with a more low key account. When in reality Gnilraps could be Country President just about any month he decides he wants to do so. I suspect Patanok/WildOwl is much the same in that regard. Sometimes it is really not a conspiracy or something nefarious. Sometimes it is simply someone wishing to have what passes for a fresh start in a game this stale and stagnant.

I had considered a run of my own either this month or in the near future as I find myself with a great deal of time on my hands due to an injury that will sideline me from work indefinitely. Maybe down the road, but for what it’s worth I fully support Patanok in his run to Country President.
