[CP]Conflicts: Real and Imagined

Day 4,686, 09:58 Published in USA USA by VoxHumana

Citizens of eUSA,

Greetings to you, and salutations from the Office of the President.

Amid the dramatic and unfortunate social conflicts we all observed taking place in plain public view, eUSA has made progress on its several priorities, and I want to comment on all of it.

First, a few thoughts about social conflict in eUSA, specifically the one between Groot of Cascadia and Aeriadne.

We play a game here, in which we assume various personae. I, for instance, am neither a chef, nor a fighter pilot, nor a president in real life. But in this game I have adopted these personae. This is a fantasy game in that respect.

There is, however, some crossover.

For instance, I would strongly encourage all of you to try my recipe for:

Caramelized cream eggs.
Add heavy cream (half-and-half will do if you add butter) to a cold pan; be generous.
Crack a few eggs directly into the cream.
Add heat. Medium to medium-high.
Watch for the edges of the cream to caramelize (note: if you cook on electric, the bottom of the cream will likely caramelize before the edges. Also stop cooking on electric.)
Once the cream shows signs of caramelization, kill the heat, cover the pan, and wait until your eggs are set to your liking.
Season accordingly.
Enjoy the most delicious eggs you will ever know.

There. A fantasy chef in a role-playing game just delivered a Real Life culinary revelation that will impress your mate after an all-night-romp in the sheets. Sometimes, RL and eRep life converge like that.

And that is what has happened in the case of Groot and Aeriadne.

To Groot:
A fantasy character in a game asked you to avoid certain pronouns, much in the same way I might ask you to refer to me as a “president”. You play alongside many people who have similarly hard-and-fast principles and non-negotiable IRL moralities which, if they were brought to bear in a fantasy world like eUSA, would cause conflicts like we have never seen. Imagine if all of the serious IRL Christians went to war with the eRep Dioists for false-god worship? This place would turn into an idiot-zone in seconds. Here’s what I know: you were not being asked to refer to a male person as a female. You were being asked to not refer to a fantasy game character as masculine. Can we please manage to do this? We called you a “president”, after all, despite the fact that in real life you were not. Try to understand. Furthermore, you undermined a lot of people’s confidence in our unity as a fantasy nation by leveraging your in-game fantasy strength as a tank against an IRL conflict. You are unlikely to change IRL minds about your favorite IRL topics regardless of their importance. No points were scored here.

I’m asking eUSA to forgive the entire episode, to try to understand that you feel strongly about the thing IRL, and to give you a break for allowing your RL to overflow into eRepublik. We’ve all done it. We are still populated by a few who oppose our Foreign Policy because they have IRL biases against the fantasy nations we seek to ally with.

So as President of the eUnited States of America, I am exonerating you from your misdeeds and calling on you to do better in our future endeavors together.

To Aeriadne:
Few people will ever understand the soul of an artist. Even artists sometimes fail to understand one another, such is the tender beauty of the thing. The further removed someone is from the artistic state of mind, the more difficult it is for them to comprehend the freedom of spirit that true art relies upon for its muse. Even so, most people I know are able to allow an artist to just be. Please know that you are surrounded, in eUSA and beyond, with artists and non-artists alike who want you to be. We need you to be, in fact, for without art there is no beauty. Your departure has left us in a desperate and ugly state. Please come back. What was done to you was wrong, and I must believe that, deep down, nearly every single citizen of this country knows it. If you should come back, distance yourself from the few who cannot see that you were wronged. It’s not hard to do, and you are not affirming the wrongness by ignoring it in a fantasy game. eUSA needs you, not because you sling damage and claim gold, but because your gilded words make us all wealthy for reading them. The mistake you made in this affair can also easily be forgiven and I also exonerate you, officially.

Furthermore as President of the eUnited States of America, I am appointing you Poet Laureate of eUSA in perpetuity.

To eUSA:
We all play together. Our ingame disagreements should be a benefit to us in activity, especially in the politics module. Please, let’s have it out. Engage in the debate with solid points. Try to win the day with your better ideas. Play this game. But our RL disagreements should be worked out privately if at all. Grandstanding our RL opinions in a fantasy game chat room is pusillanimous and foolish. Knock it off. We all have RL opinions. Hello. As Krapis I don’t much care about them. As a human being behind Krapis I definitely do care about them. So if you want to assert your RL opinions with me, don’t talk to Krapis. Ask to speak to the person behind the avatar.

Furthermore, eUSA is making enormous progress down a path she has never trod before. Change is not always embraced easily. I intend to continue working to show more and more of you that eUSA is not being guided by ignorance. I will continue to ask you to shed your ancient INGAME biases and embrace a new chapter in eUSA. Do it for the love of fun. Do it for the glory of eUSA.

Now someone go make my eggs.

I am also here to address the Imagined conflicts we all so enjoy - our Military endeavors a a nation - both Training Wars and more recently, Wars.

And I I begin by reminding all of eUSA (and any foreign guests who are also reading) what we as a nation committed ourselves to do just 4 months ago.

I offer the following quotes taken directly from the Contract with Asteria. Remember, this was a commitment made by the government of eUSA and therefore by us all. Take heed to these commitments. Read them carefully and understand what it means that we as a nation agreed in good faith to do.

Quote 1.
The governments of Asteria members and the USA, in an effort to end hostilities and improve relations between all involved parties, agree to the following.
Emphasis: “to end hostilities and improve relations.”

Quote 2.
Both parties hold the right not to renew it if they do not wish to do so but commit to bringing their best efforts to extend it for another 6 months.
Emphasis: “best efforts…”

Quote 3.
Both parties express a commitment to start a long-lasting partnership and a permanent end to hostilities.
Emphases: “commitment… long-lasting… permanent…”

Quote 4.
All other regions are suitable for the placement of countries for Training Wars and/or for strategic reasons and will be put to use in a way that maximizes safety and profit for both parties.
Emphasis: “profit for both parties.”

Quote 5.
Under the terms of this agreement, in case of an action targeting the USA core regions that wasn't previously approved, all parties must consider it as an act of aggression.
Emphasis: “all parties…”, meaning our cores are a defense priority of Asteria as well as eUSA.

I remind eUSA of these very important points in the NAP agreement from May 22 because they are the prelude to the narrative we are currently living out.

In May, the die was cast that we should make sincere and long-lasting efforts to build a future with Asteria as our friends. I have yet to hear a sound argument as to why this cannot be done. I have heard complaints about betrayal of former friends. It brings to mind how the citizens of IRL Massachusetts might feel having seen Tom Brady depart for Tampa Bay and a new football contract to play the same game for a different team. These things happen in games, don’t they? And so the New England Patriots found themselves a new Quarterback while Tampa Bay goes to battle with the former Patriot and the game goes on and the fans learn to live with it. A few will “never forgive” Brady. Most won’t really care as long as there’s another Super Bowl to be won.

This is not betrayal, for it is a game we are playing. This is a prudent response to the international milieu which stands to put eUSA in a position of security, sovereignty, dignity of purpose, and prosperity. For instance, eUSA began my terms ranked #20 in the New World. We recently peaked at #6.

In a game, this is defined as winning.

I also remind eUSA of the mutuality of the NAP agreement because I have seen no reason to believe that the Asterian officials or their governments entered into that agreement with anything less than the same good faith I and my administration are showing by our actions.

On September 3rd, Asteria welcomed me, our MoFA, and our NSC Director into their primary military coordination channel. This was a show of good faith on their part as it has certainly not been needed for us to perform our TW’s with aplomb. Yet there we are, included as equals and respected as friends.

Then on September 7th, eUSA found itself in need of damage. We got smacked in the face by all of CODE and then some, and defeat would have been bitter. Asteria called itself to arms for us and truly delivered the victory, even spending CC on combat orders on our behalf. An un-named alliance historian assured me that this was an extraordinarily rare event for eUSA to be so supported financially by it allies, it has usually been regarded as a wealthy partner expected to spend its cash for others with very little return. I was most thankful and expressed my gratitude with Asteria. eUSA won.

In an important Air Combat round earlier today, the call was put out for air damage at a time when eUSA was already dealing with a difficult military situation at home. Our Training War with Venezuela in West Virginia was going badly due to Venezuela’s difficulty keeping up with our native damage. (By “native damage” I refer to the amount of damage we produce by “two-clickers”. In the case of Venezuela, our native damage is often enough to win battles). Our most active US tanks had spent the wee hours correcting walls, and sacrificing their True Patriot cash for damage on the Venezuela side. However, Asteria asked us for support in a key spot, and USA delivered. Asteria won in the final minute by a very slim margin. Look who helpe😛

These are the kinds of things that make for success in a war-based game.

I am sure there will always be a few who utterly refuse to see the wisdom in the path we have now been treading for four months; a path on which I intend to keep us. I am making no bones about this: working with Asteria has been fun, successful, illuminating, and prosperous. For the foreseeable future, we should stand at the ready to fight on the side of Serbia, Romania, Italy, Bulgaria, Iran, Peru, and Portugal.

They have committed to fight for us.

Get thee on board!
