Town Hall Recap / Voting Records

CONNOR'S WEEKLY TOWN HALL

Wednesday marked the first of many Town Hall Meetings in my IRC Office (#Connors-Office on Rizon). It appeared to be a success, with as many as 20 people in the room at one time. Fivescott was the moderator, as she will most certainly ALWAYS be, and eCelebrities such as Jack Flufferton, JeepAmerica, and White House Chief of Staff PigInZen, dropped in with support and even participated in the meeting itself. Fellow Freshman Congressman, Rheinlander von Phalz, was also in attendance and an active participant.

What we need now is a topic for next week's Town Hall. If you have any ideas, suggestions, questions, or comments; please let me know. And as always, feel free to pass by the IRC office at anytime.

VOTING RECORDS

The new VOTING RECORDS forum is available for public viewing. This is the compromise that I talked about in the last issue. This is a great step towards government transparency, in my honest opinion.

Here's a list of my voting record prior to today;
26 September 2009, Day 676 of the New World

Donate: 1000 USD to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: a glitch Congress member
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 37 – 13 No
Rationale: No new proposals for any category of congressional action (donate, tax change for wood, impeach president, etc) can be proposed if one is currently being voted on. This means that the proposal to donate a thousand dollars to the CBO is the only donation proposal Congress will get for that 24-hour period. Since donating money to the CBO is something Congress would do anyway, and we could not affect the proposal after it had been initiated, there was no real reason to reject it. This time, the total number of votes was reasonably close to the total number of legitimate Congressmen (50 votes for a 47-person Congress); this proposal was started shortly before the glitch was corrected.

27 September 2009, Day 677 of the New World
Issue Money
Proposed by: Tormod (AAP – MI)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 40 – 0 No
Rationale: This is done periodically to maintain the stability of the dollar’s exchange rate to gold. When wartime consumption abruptly ended, prices dropped and the exchange rate was becoming unstable.

28 September 2009, Day 678 of the New World
New Citizen Message
Proposed by: Gaius Julius, President of the United States
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 40 – 3 No
Rationale: There was some initial confusion was to whether or not links would display properly in the message, causing a delay in the decision of some Congressmen. This is the message sent to new citizens after being e-born in the eUS.

Donate: 99,999 USD to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: Astra Kat G (Green – CA)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 42 – 0 No
Rationale: We periodically empty the national account into the Congressional Budget office. Donations can only be proposed from the national account once per 24-hours, so the CBO is useful to disseminating funds to the various organizations on our budget, such as the branches of the military. This dollar amount was not arbitrary; it is the largest amount we can transfer out of the national account.

29 September 2009, Day 679 of the New World
Donate: 8,457 RUB to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: Cynic Grim (AAP – MN)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 42 – 0 No
Rationale: Our government had considerable wealth in foreign currency as the result of conquering (or re-conquering) regions occupied by other powers. Multiple proposals were used to empty out those accounts into the CBO.

Appointment of 22nd Congress Speaker of the House
Vote: KillingTime
Result: Killing Time appointed as 22nd Congress Speaker of the House, Tiacha 15 – 20 Killing Time with 3 abstains

30 September, Day 680 of the New World
Donate: 99,999 USD to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: DisDick (USWP – NC)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 44 – 0 No
Rationale: The rationale for this proposal is the same as the one proposed by Astra Kat G (Green – CA) three days earlier.

1 October 2009, Day 681 of the New World
Donate: 7,915 FRF to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: Aaron S (USWP – OR)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 43 – 0 No
Rationale: The rationale for this proposal is the same as the one proposed by Cynic Grim (AAP – MN) two days earlier. This time, it was French currency.

Peace Proposal with Finland
Proposed by: Avec, President of Finland
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 24 – 0 No
Rationale: Finland and the United States were not actually in a state of war. This will allow mutual protection pacts with Finland to resume.

2 October 2009, Day 682 of the New World
Donate: 3,318 COP to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: 2000max (AAP - WI)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 40 – 0 No
Rationale: The rationale for this proposal is the same as the one proposed by Cynic Grim (AAP – MN) three days earlier. This time, it was Colombian currency.

3 October 2009, Day 683 of the New World
Donate: 6.486 PTE to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: Serendipitous (AAP - AL)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 45 – 0 No
Rationale: The rationale for this proposal is the same as the one proposed by Cynic Grim (AAP – MN) five days earlier. This time, it was Portuguese currency.

Minimum Wage Change
Proposed by: Muljo Gobet (USWP - MT)
Vote: No
Result: Rejected, Yes 0 – 42 No
Rationale: Congressman Gobet was resigning from Congress to take an overseas deployment from the military. Before resigning, he proposed this for the experience. Each Congressman gets two proposals per term.

New Citizen Fee
Proposed by: Muljo Gobet (USWP - MT)
Vote: No
Result: Rejected, Yes 0 – 42 No
Rationale: This is the second proposal initiated by Gobet for the experience before he resigned. The citizen fee is the amount of local currency new citizens e-born in the eUS receive from the treasury.

4 October 2009, Day 684 of the New World
Donate: 1,704 CAD to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: Rheinlander von Phalz (AAP – AZ), the author of this congressional report
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 40 – 0 No
Rationale: This was the next foreign currency we had accumulated significant amounts of in the national account. This time, it was Canadian currency.

5 October 2009, Day 685 of the New World

Donate: 732 ESP to the Congressional Budget Office
Proposed by: Aldric Harper (AAP – VT)
Vote: Yes
Result: Accepted, Yes 45 – 0 No
Rationale: This was the last foreign currency we had accumulated significant amounts of in the national account. This time, it was Spanish currency.
