The REAL Answer to Citizen Retention.

Day 939, 21:10 Published in USA USA by Syrup

Hello America. I heard that you had a problem with citizenship retention. Proof of this problem is shown in the picture above, this picture shows the declining amount of citizens from roughly 2 months ago.

Many politicians like to herd new citizens when they join this game like sheep. They make sure they have the basic knowledge to play the game, high wellness, food, and then essentially leave them to dry. While programs such as Meals-on-Wheels and the Mentorship program are helpful to the country, I think that many players feel alone when joining this game, they know what they should be doing, but not who they should be doing it with. These players have enough guides, food, and knowledge, but what they really need is a friend.

This left me scarred for life, don't treat our new players like these. kthnx.

However, there are a massive amount of new players joining this game, and leave after only logging in once. These citizen's can be more or less ignored, since there is no helping them. What we need is a group of citizens willing to message the most promising-looking citizens and start a conversation. Around the second or third day of playing the mystique of playing eRepublik has faded, the new citizens are getting bored of clicking buttons and leave. This program will pair these citizens up with older citizens who are willing to carry on a conversation with the new citizen. What we need are upbeat, and energetic citizens who are willing to carry on an actual conversation. Not a !! "Hello, are you having any problems with eRepublik or have any questions for me?", rather a genuine conversation talking about the new player's hobbies. If these new players find a good friend in the game, they will stay.

Since you are reading this article, you chose to stay in the game. Think back to the first few days you joined eRepublik, there was probably someone within the first week that you bonded with, which caused you to stay. Let's face it, eRepublik isn't nearly as good of a game as many online games which are free and more publicized at the moment, it's not the actual gameplay that's keeping new players, it's the community. So, rather than offering them just gameplay, we should also give them a friend, which will establish the community aspect of the game which will keep them playing.

I was talking to Jude Connors and a player named Clerica recently in IRC. Jude Connors (and a player named Sleeve) were the people which kept me playing this game, they were my first true friends which I found in eRepublik. I found out that Clerica had kept Jude in the game by reading an article of his, and PMing him, offering assistance, and friendship. Clerica kept Jude in the game, who in turn kept me in this game. No doubt, in my lifetime as part of Mentorship Programs, and other Interior programs I have kept a citizen or two in this game, who kept other citizens in the game. America, all of your actions create a domino affect. If you reach out to a new player, chances are he reaches out to a few new player, who in turn reach out to more players, creating an exponential increase of retained players. If you ignore the new player, all of the potential 'retained' players which the new player would have reached out to would have been lost.

There are 2 solutions to this problem. The first is to reach out to new players who need help, not only will you keep a player in the game, but you may just gain a friend as well. The second way would be to sign up for a new program called "First Friend". This program would work with the Interior to find the bored citizens which were about to quit on the second day which we talked about before, and send a friendly player to start up a conversation to keep them in the game. The purpose of this program is to not just keep the player in the game, it's to introduce the community to them, and to give them their first eFriend. If you're interested, you can sign up here.
