The IRC is the place to be!

Day 591, 19:00 Published in USA USA by Kara Zor El

"Now you can visit the forum or read the news to stay in touch with what happens on eRepublik."
Do those words look familiar in that order? Even two-clickers get to read that suggestion from Plato on a daily basis. To date, I have been quite good about reading the news. My experience with the forums has been quite limited though. I believe this is a mistake I do not wish others to imitate. As I've perused the assorted topics contained therein, I've noticed many subjects that would be of interest to citizens of every level. One of these topics is the Wiki pages. There you can find many subjects of interest. If you want to find out who ATLANTIS was or what's so significant about Day 541, that's a great place to look. It was there, on the Wiki front page, I found a link to the IRC.

When I first heard about the IRC from one of my efriends, I was reluctant to jump on in. One reason was that I was intimidated by something unfamiliar to me. The other was, I feared being tied up in endless chat while I had articles to write, news to read, and forums yet to discover. I later realized that people are understanding if you need to step away from a conversation. I was once wishing I had more to do here. I wondered how other citizens, lower levels than me, were in the loop. They seemed to know what was going while I lagged behind. Do you feel that way? Let's change your perspective a little. Here's some info to enlighten you.

What is IRC, and how does it work?
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) provides a way of communicating in real time with people from all over the world. It consists of various separate networks (or "nets") of IRC servers, machines that allow users to connect to IRC. Once connected to an IRC server on an IRC network, you will usually join one or more "channels" and converse with others there. Channels are run by channel operators, or just "ops" for short, who can control the channel by choosing who may join (by "banning" some users), who must leave (by "kicking" them out), and even who may speak (by making the channel "moderated")! Channel ops have complete control over their channel, and their decisions are final.

IRC client
There are many chat clients that have the ability to connect to and IRC chat server. The first, and by far the easiest, is a web browser based chat client called Mibbit. The second one gives you a little bit more in the way of configurations so that you don't have to reconnect to the server and all of your channels each time you sign in. This client requires you to use the FireFox web browser as it is an add on for that software. In all honesty, if you are still using Internet Explorer X, you should switch anyway. Once you have FireFox set up, go to the install page for Chatzilla. Once you have clicked on the install button and restarted your browser, you will be able to access it from the tools menu.

Attach
In order to attach to the proper IRC server to enter the IRC channels, the steps are different depending on which of the two clients you are using from step (1). If you are using Chatzilla, all you have to do is type (/attach irc.rizon.net) into the prompt to connect to the IRC server.

Join
The final step is to join a channel. I encourage you to come into #us-help and introduce yourself, but keep an eye out for other IRC channels where you may find some action. In order to join a channel, just type: (/join #us-help). Try this link to make it easier: (http://tinyurl.com/lw97m3).

Please take time to explore the IRC and see what it has to offer. For me, it offers a greater sense of community. It also offers access to information you might not get elsewhere. Hope to meet you there.

Old contest quote:
"You will soon wake to see
There is no heart in anything you say to me
Thought we'd found a harmony
A perfect match of melodies
But if you listen closely now, I've been singing all alone"

New contest!
I have two cats. Guess both their names and win 2 free gifts. One name starts with "M", the other name "C". Also, look at the picture above and tell me if you would turn the water on. Do you think I would?
