Reputation Bias
olivermellors
Recently, a published article referenced the eCanada team's reputation. I have no idea how other teams view eCanada and my speculation is that we are seen as a relative non-entity, oddly dysfunctional and plagued by squabbles. This is not the kind of reputation which can be ruined.
I would like to be educated. Certainly, many of my teamates will have a self confirming bias about this matter just as I do myself. What, then, are the objective facts which can be used to map a true picture of eCanada's standing and reputation amongst outsiders?
All contributions appreciated, vaporous panegyric excepted.

We have a good reputation within LETO and we have good working relationships with several Asteria countries, but of course some people are not happy. Right now we have rampant speculation and hysteria because we are under attack. I hope it dies down soon and we can move onto the matter at hand; removing the invaders.
Hang tight.
A 'good' reputation: what does that mean, concretely? Also, what concrete evidence exists?
Right now, I can only give you my word. I would love to post IRC/PM logs, but that would not be good conduct. You have no idea how nice it would be to post everything we have and vindicate ourselves, but it's confidential information. Maybe at a later date when things calm down, but right now it's not the right move.
I can tell you that at all our meetings LETO countries express their pleasure in dealing with Canada. Asteria countries I have talked with personally have expressed support to help remove FYROM/Croatia. France and Portugal in particular are very strong allies whom we have excellent relations with through not only LETO, but ATLAS as well.
So when I say a "good repuation" I mean that for the most part, our allies respect us and value our input.
thank you for your contribution. You are focussed on the present tempest brewed up in our little teapot, and I understand how that can distract from the point of this article. The point: what exactly is the content of our reputation.
We can be respected and valued as a non entity, even a disfunctional squabbling non entity. We probably all have a beloved uncle who fits that description. What is our reputation - surely it is not as a tremendous damage contributor, nor as the wise mediator, nor the stable economic heartland. Yet we probably do distinguish ourselves and it would be interesting to know how other teams characterize our greatest strengths and weaknesses. That constellation is our reputation.
I would say our strongest characteristic we are valued for is our ability to keep our word. When we say we will do something, we do it, without petty politicking or other partisan nonsense. At least, that has been my experience the last three months involved with LETO. We keep our word and are honest about our intentions. We're straight shooters.
Brilliant article. I had written an article to stand for MoFA last month. The MoFA of the current government has written 0 articles even after assuming the position.
Reputation bias and nepotism goes a long way. I do have a reputation too outside the country. Here I have to fight against the reputation bias lol
You should visit Aus where there MoFA hasn't produced an article for the people there in 6 months...apart from two i wrote in a brief temporary two week spell to help out.
Here is what Dio Brando wrote today in our SUFFER party thread. I am taking liberties of posting it without asking his permission haha.

Strong case.
The government are so obsessed with saving their own assess......with ensuring they get back into power......that they have sacrificed the reputation of Canada as great warriors, fighters, idealists, dreamers.....by sucking up to another country. By becoming their bitches.
Canada is better than this. Strong. Bold. Like the Mighty Moose, we may look calm on the surface but when stirred, we have the potential for great strength. We go down fighting and falling on our sword, or we don't go down at all.
The ruling class of Canada didn't even bother to tell the people what was happening. That's why we created the Coalition. So that there was a team that represented the people, rather than the self interest of the Pickle and his cronies.
vaporous panegyric, redacted to haiku exhalation:

Farewell to eCanada, it's been great y'all!
haha Dio Brando knows all about reputation. There is a reason why thousands call him The God Emperor 😉 Admins had to change the mechanics of the game to stop his organized force. Check wiki.
Let's nip one in the bud, i'm not running for MoD or any other major ministerial position next term. Three months is enough for me, someone else should try their hand at it and to be honest i'm getting a bit burnt out.
Who are the elite anyways? I would be interested in hearing some names, because I really have no idea. Do you possibly mean long-time community members or people who have been in government for a long time?
Not at all. Majority of the long term community members were not informed of deals or any substantial information. I am not asking you not to run. I asked you to open up the cabinet and also to write updates. I would have loved to see an
EMERGENCY ALERT article explaining the gravity of the situation which is a major wipe. Fyrom and Croatians are enemies. That has to be told categorically without any doubts. Xander spoke about uniting on a common ground.
The common ground has not been established. Establish that. And the members who have been working for the government for a long time... allow new members instead of monopolizing on every department.
You have written updates and I can see you doing the job and working hard. FA is not being handled well. I am sorry to say. This is my forte and I am giving you an honest opinion. It might sound biased because I might be from the opposition or whatever. Mistakes are being made. Tell me where and how I can help you? Tell me who will listen without saying "we know how to take care of it" "Stop whining" etc.
I am completely open to advice on how to hand the current situation, but all I have been hearing is cries to crucify Dill and how everything we have done is wrong without any actual input on how to deal with the present. Send me a message with your evaluation of our current situation and recommendations and I promise I will look into it.
Unfortunately, right now is the holidays and many people are inactive (not just in eCan, other countries too have mentioned similar activity drops among government officials).
''I have no idea how other teams view eCanada and my speculation is that we are seen as a relative non-entity, oddly dysfunctional and plagued by squabbles.''
My eLifetime has been in mainly three countries and that, along with my experience with other countries, would say that the vast majority of countries are like that when you scratch beyond the surface.
You are as dysfunctional and retarded as the eUK and we love you for it.
~hyuu~
I feel terrible if I only left "~hyuu~" as a comment, not contributing to the discussion you created, so I'm also here to say that I appreciate you for laying down the ground for progressive discussions on eCan's state of affairs. Thanks (:
It depends who our CP is. When Rylde is at the helm, I imagine the rest of the eWorld views us as something like an armed warhead dangling from a fraying cable that could snap at any minute. Or maybe as a timberwolf leashed to a bike rack with few knotted-together shoestrings. Something that could go super-wrong at any minute.
Then when Rylde steps down, loses interest or otherwise leaves the CP chair vacant, I believe our reputation is something like a pack of wild, hungry dogs all slathered in bacon grease and gravy. Plus one or two feral cats who do not realize they are not dogs, but who want to fight amongst them anyway.
Generally, I get the impression from the media of other nations that we are somehow less relevant than the big "important" countries. That is certainly the image the eAmericans were painting during that war, and some of them (a few particular ass-hats spring immediately to mind) still hold to that. We only really appear on other countries' radars when we do something reckless and awesome like AS and wipe Pakistan, or when we get invaded by much more powerful nations (usually as a consequence for hitting outside our weight class, which may be something of a nationalistic bias that only eCanadians believe).
I believe our real friends see us as valuable allies. And our enemies generally respect us because we usually put up more of a fight than our relative size would indicate. Everyone else ignores us because we're not in Eastern Europe.
So far the description is .... honest, mature population, disorganized, unpredictable and relatively unimportant.
Time for a new question perhaps.
