Welcome to the thirty-second edition of Political Hotspot.
There has been significant upheaval in UK politics in the past few days. The positions of the main parties have shifted, with the WRP falling out of the top five, and ESO gaining a place in the top five. This means that ESO got to participate in the Congress elections this month, and the WRP did not. ESO did very well in the elections, getting ten seats, more than any other party, although one of them was reserved for the WRP, whose candidate Rafay Ahmed was put in top position in the ESO list. TUP is still the largest party membership-wise, but they tend to do badly in Congress elections. This month was no exception.
These upheavals are an indicator that in the UK it is possible for parties to move in and out of the top five, and that the relative positions of the parties are in flux. This is symptomatic of a healthy political scene. The UK has six main parties, a situation that does not fit well into the eRepublik political system, which is designed to allow five strong parties to reign supreme over everyone else. It is likely that the fact that it is possible for six main parties to exist in the UK is extremely beneficial to democracy, since if it is possible for a party to have success even though it is not in the top five, it is easier for new parties to rise to the top, and likewise for old parties to fade away. This is a necessary process in a healthy democracy.
The reasons for the movement of parties in and out of the top five at this time are not as simple as it would at first appear. At a cursory glance it would seem that a rise in membership propelling ESO into the top five had pushed the WRP out. To get a clearer idea of what has really happened, however, it is necessary to consider the role of the BDP. As ESO has been gaining membership over recent weeks it has come increasingly close to pushing the BDP out of the top five. The BDP has responded by increasing it's membership, something that one or two people are rather too good at, to ensure that it remained a top five party. The result of this tussle between ESO and the BDP is that when ESO overtook the WRP, the BDP followed suit, thereby pushing the WRP from position four to position six. It is therefore the BDP that is responsible for the WRP's fall out of the top five.
The UK has also suffered a 'liberation' by a foreign military force that has deprived the country of it's Constitutional Dictatorship, with King Woldy having been overthrown from the position of Dictator. This action is in defiance of the UK constitution, and puts the UK at risk from a takeover by a hostile foreign MU. The government should act to restore King Woldy's Constitutional Dictatorship as soon as possible.
God Save King Woldy!

Best article yet!
Ur analysis is top notch
Good stuff.
We are planning to restore Woldy as soon as the option is available. o/
And rather than his MU funding it we are ALL having to pay for it through taxes
You cannot but like Sexagenarian - it's the staggeringly ill informed comments that do it for me!
Ill informed? Yes and it's because the "politicians" treat us like mushrooms (keep us in the dark and feed us BS)
The politicians are receiving a huge and unnecessary tax take, if this isn't to prop up the status quo with a dictatorship what else is it for?
One of the responsibilities of the government is to uphold the constitution passed by Congress, therefore I would say that government funding to keep the Constitutional Dictatorship in place is a legitimate use of government money.
Where exactly in game mechanics does a constitutional dictatorship appear?
As far as I can see it is something imposed on and paid for by the majority to prop up the egos of a small minority.
No, it's something done to protect the eUK from being taken over by a malignant force again and having our country accounts raided - anyone who wants to take us over has to win a battle to kick out our democratically chosen dictator, then wait ten days while we prepare for the next fight and while our democratically elected CP/congress moves the country's money to safety, then win a second battle to take the dictatorship themselves.
Having the treasury raided has absolutely no effect on the average player, I know I've been here when its happened several times.
Democratically elected? I would agree if a significant proportion of the population were in support but as it involved a vote outside of the game only a small minority voted with an even smaller number in support of the winning candidate.
The best way to protect the money is leave it in the hands of the general population
This isn't just the country's money being raided, which does affect the general population anyway because we become easier to conquer without the ability to set COs or pay for MPPs (I've also been here when its happened several times). This is handing control of the country over to an malevolent dictator, allowing them to choose who we have MPPs with, who we declare war on etc..., which is a very fast way to get wiped.
But I'm sure the average citizen doesn't care about those bonuses we get for having all our regions, do they? That's just for the small elite minority.
Malevolent Dictator? If you believe that then you really should get out more, this is a game not reality
Bonuses are fine but if you've been around for a while it isn't a big deal if they disappear for a week or two.
None of your points have any major effect on the average player, the only people that are affected are the politicos whose sole aim in game is to keep themselves in power.
Maybe instead of hoarding cash for the next thief to steal you could try returning it to the people
Voted and Subbed.
