Having the (Persian) rug pulled out from under you...

Day 3,100, 06:28 Published in USA Canada by Ilene Dover

Time for a serious article on something other than resource wars…

If you’re not blind, then you will have noticed a few things over the past few days. The gloating has already started, alongside character defences. Nobody has addressed the facts yet, so unless you care to spend half your waking day hanging out on forums and reading articles I’ll do my best to put it all in one place.

Firstly, the official Dictatorship MU failed to win after starting a dictatorship war. Whatever you might think of our dictatorship governance model, it’s still the majority decided course. Failing to enact the will of congress and burning 1 million CC in the process can have consequences.

So, why did the sanctioned coup fail? I’ll try and give it to you in short form. The Dark Knight (I'm gonna call him TDK because I'm lazy) had decided he would interfere with the majority’s decision to have a “democratic dictatorship”. Toward this goal, he used a secondary MU to funnel mercenaries and set combat orders.

By the end of the battle, when it was clear the coup was lost without a change of strategy, our CP (Tyler) opened negotiations with TDK to find out what was wrong.

As it turns out, some of you with a memory longer than a goldfish may remember this “glorious” moment in our recent eHistory. Yep, that 3 million in cash (plus or minus) was sorely missed. The Iranians wanted it back, and TDK was going to do what he could to help them.

I guess he chose Batman as his online persona because of a personal sense of justice, or something along those lines.

At this point, Tyler approached Congress about offering the Iranians a refund of the 3 million CC confiscated a few months back. I can’t show you what happened and tell you what was said because it’s all hidden in Private Congress at the moment. If and when that discussion moves into the public domain I would love to share it here. Suffice to say that Congress was mixed and divided on what to do.

A request was made to accelerate discussions and bring the issue to a vote, seeing as the battle was slipping away. That didn’t happen. Because...reasons.

Anyway, the coup attempt failed. Whether Congress could have influenced the battle result (by passing the vote to refund) is a moot point at this point in time. Regardless, Tyler and TDK kept talking, because the time limit for starting another coup after a failed attempt is 24 hours.

And then… One of the most selfless acts I’ve ever seen in this game.

Tyler Bubblar simply repaid the 3 million CC. From his own pocket. That is to say, he dropped somewhere around $500 USD to, in his own words, “...do the right thing.”

We tried for the constitutional dictatorship again. TDK and his associates supported the coup:

.

And you know what? It went off without a hitch.

So, I take my hat off to you Tyler. That was a beautiful gesture. You’ve taken a hospital pass this term and stood strong.

Thank you, TDK and friends, for honouring your side of the deal.

What next? Well, Congress is “debating” whether to reimburse Tyler or not. That’s also hidden away in Private Congress, so I can’t tell you what’s been said. I’m sure it will be an interesting debate - can a CP effectively force majeure Congress into funding things? Will the potential precedent stop Congress returning the favour and “...do the right thing?” If you care and you’re not in Congress, now’s the time to make contact and speak up.
