eAustralia's Forums - Thinking outside the square!
Mr Crumpets
Heeeellllllllooooooo!
It's been awhile... and football commitments are finally finished (for now).
I've been trying to catch up on what's been going on during my time away (we're free... WTF!) and noticed a couple of quick things.
The first point was Louise talking about the lack of decent articles to create debate... luckily I have returned (for now... until work gets busy again).
The second point, though 100 days old, but brought up again in the comments of a recent article, was the old chestnut of Binda's authority in the forums.
I see a petition was started, but failed. IMHO, the reality is Binda is an associate director (or like minded position) of the (XG's) 'company' that owns and operates the forum.
The reality is, while Binda is onside with XG, her authority will not be revoked, despite whatever protests from the community.
In fact, Tim Holtz - who I've agreed with and also strong disagreed with in the past - hit the nail on the head, when quoting Larni " the one way to fix the forums relies on a single person doing what's right for the community. Selfishness has seen the death of the forums."
The problem is, we for too long have been viewing the forum the wrong way around. We've seen XG (and his company) as the power, even overriding our government (as per Callum's petition).
In fact, we should be looking at another way.
The reason (besides it's longevity) that XG's hosted eAustralia forum is as powerful/popular as it is, is because the eAustralian Government and it's branches (parliament, cabinet, military, etc...) are hosted there.
What the eAustralian Government should be doing is a regular 'tender process'.
The tender of the 'Official eAustralian Forums' would be open to everyone, as to whom would be the best to house the Government on their forums.
For example, XG, Icetek and Infin might put proposals together to host the Government and it's branches on their own dedicated forum.
Through the process (for example), Icetek might come up with a better hosting server and technical capacity to run them, but Infin might trump him with a fairer admin/mods system.
If Infin won the vote of Government, the PM, cabinet members and senators would set up shop on Infin's forums and they would become the 'official forums' until a new tender was called (through date expiry or dissatisfaction with performance).
In that hypothetical case, what would happen with XG's fourms?
XG's forums would run as is (including Binda in her role), however, they would lose the 'official forums' title and Government would no longer conduct their business there.
People might still go to XG's forums, but activity would probably decline over time, as people would more than likely hang out on the 'official forums'.
This tender process puts the power back in the hands of the people (through the government). If the Government of the day (supported by Parliament's vote) want Binda stripped of her admin powers, it would be up to XG to comply or risk losing the 'official forums' status.
There's more than one way to cook an egg.
Mr Crumpets.
(You happy now... you have an article worth debating!)
P.S... NO PICTURES FOR YOU!
Comments
No first for you either!
i agree with this idea, i like it alot in fact
welcome back Mr Crumpets \o/
PS I don't really like the idea.
The forums would work with a bit of cooperation from everybody.
so you like the idea of the only active admin being someone people dont like, and the owner someone who ragequit
So, who do you propose as Admin that everyone likes?
good question, why not vote on it?
that we we know we picked the most liked person
Where do you get that from Tim? I said the forums would work with a bit of Cooperation from everybody. Simple
Cooperation & everybody are the key words.
---
Refer to what Sir_c0nstant said below, forums continually changing would be a backward step.
That admin would be me. I hate you all equally and besides, you all know i dont hide behind banning etc.
The way i see it, only job i have would be setting "others" to monitor the forum and take them off as governments ask.
Take it for what it is, but i think im the least biased person here.
Also, the most liked person running the forums is a bad idea. I think history would just repeat itself.
Actually that is not a bad idea at all. for all the reasons Icetek mentioned.
Ah see, this is where I would be even better than Icetek because I'm less of a trollop.
Everyone loves me!!!!!!!!
Well I was basing my opinion on the fact that IRL Peter Slipper made a good Speaker because he disliked & was disliked by all members of Parliment equally - he had nothing to lose
so the 'official forums' continually changing would be good how???
good idea.
I'm actually also I designing my own forums, that may sit as a replacement, I'll launch it later though its not finnished
I have no problem with binda. I think the main reason people do not go one the forums is because its kinda boring
Imagine this - Mick Gatto was setting up alternative forums before his mental breakdown...imagine those with him as admin...cool eh?
Scary but true
so about the same as the current forums then?
Not at all
i cant really imagine these new forums being any worse than the current
So you don't like Binda nor the present forums & are not prepared to make any attempt to overcome your dislike.
You going on & on about how much you dislike Binda is as wearying as Mick Gatto going on & on about racism real or imagined.
There are not enough eAus people to afford this sort of petty carry ons & infighting. We need to get over our differences & cooperate Tim

wow.
All your medals are sexy.
thanks babe
❤
That's my job... drop a brain fart and see what happens 😉
Dont be jelly DD. You just came back and your 1st mission is to kiss ass your way into eAUS. I see real life clipped you.
Whos ass am i kissing? I don't need to kiss anyones ass to come back to eAus.
You soon see you do.
Besides are you back back, or just passing threw noob?
A picture for your article:

On itsy-bitsy detail -- how do you handle transferring the parliament sections between moves?
Yes there are people who don't like Binda but there are also people who don't always get time to get onto the forums. If every month there was a new "Official" eAus forum how would most people who don't get there often enough know that there was a new forum?
We have seen in the past we cannot always rely on the Government for updated battle orders/newb info/ general info so realistically who would then promote the updated forum?
The answer of whoever is running the current forums is not acceptable as if that was the case the Government would have minimum weekly updates without fail 😛
Along with how much previous government information from the month before would be lost due to changing forums possibly every month.
I would much rather see a new complete forum that the eAus public chose along with choosing a rotating Admin system or monthly nominations for the Admin position.
Oh btw Welcome back MC 😉 long time no see brother
"I would much rather see a new complete forum that the eAus public chose along with choosing a rotating Admin system or monthly nominations for the Admin position'
I don't think that's a bad idea Guagature.
In any case, I wouldn't expect (in my idea) for the forums to change every month, just on an 'as needs' basis, such as technical problems or admin/control issues.
... oh and good to see you too fellow Crimson Devil - we need to get the band back together!
Welcome back CH. Not sure I agree with rotating hosted forum. Good way to kill off the whole concept of a forum.
I have not had any serious concerns over our forums. Sure I hav esuffered from Binda obsessive behaviour but I can live with it. When I think of the spamming, trolling and other forms of abuse over the years .... well its all just part of life on the net.
Tim, if you want to be admin, why not throw your hat in the ring.
CH, get back on the air already. No-one does that as well as you do.
the thing is i dont really want to be admin, i am heavily politically involved and as such i know i would be biased against my political opponents.
im sure i could manage 99% of the time but ill admit i can do some stupid things, im not willing to take on forum admin as a result
tbh there is only one issue with the forums, and one admin that people have issues with. She is taking advantage of that fact by refusing to do the right thing and XG is simply gutless because she will cry and guilt him if he does anything.
I think we're working fine without using the forums, well I know I am. Its a lot easier when you don't have some one sticking her nose where it doesn't belong and generally causing a shit fight when she is pms'ing or kids are misbehaving or she is just upset at the way her life has turned out.

New players don't last if they use the forums, That has been the issue we've had for years now even with her using the ADF as a tool to manipulate people into going there. Other players simply refuse to use them, more player still can't understand why she doesn't just step down to stop the nonsense once and for all.
The issue Infowar has always been one person. What logical excuse can you give for her clutching onto power there and continuing to make eAus suffer because of her delsuions?
It really doesn't matter if you consider the complaints justified or not the fact that they are there is plain and simple.
new players dont last as they realise this game sucks
well there is that too >.>
I would tend to disagree about new players not lasting if they use the forums. Larnie are you suggesting that Binda drives them away? She has never been offensive to me - though come to think of it other players posting here have.
If anything, the forums increase retention. ADF can testify to it. A player who is on forums and IRC is more likely to be around in 3 months. Its not about the forum specifically, but rather the willingness to participate and elevate the game into something bigger than what it is here.
I have just received an infringement notice from Plato for quote 'vulgarity'. I didn't realize until now that I had written one offensive word in a post when I had commented on this article. I would just like know who was who reported me? I got a feeling whoever it was did so because they didn't like what I was saying. Another thing is I just read another comment that someone else wrote that is just as bad yet oddly enough he wasn't censore😛

Funny how it was okay for him to say one vulgar word, probably because the content was more suitable to the person who reported it... Interesting...
Can't compare the two. If you use the word you said in the Ausrep IRC room its an auto kick and for the life of me I can't see anything that offensive your quote from Dis, perhaps you are simply being a little precious or want to play the victim and pretend you had a point that would have offended people.
Hot tip its all been discussed before by people a lot like you, then Binda betrays them and they join the crowd of disgruntled members.
You think you can turn half the community simply by doing a few things to a handful of people? Now you will say "fine list what she has done" and none of us will be bothered cause we all just sit back now and wait for the apology to come and the inevitable "I didn't know she was like that" even though everyone has been telling you....
Hence the cycle continues, new players join and come to her defense cause she is being 'picked on' without actually doing a headcount of who vouches for Binda and who opposes her. The important factor is those who simply do not care anymore. Nothing will change in eAus until she stops crippling our community.
That's just the way it is and why most of us use the forums as little as possible, if at all.
Somebody probably reported you Infowar, look for a PC person who pushes their own opinion all the time
If you're going to make accusations, try to back them up with some proof. I'm sick of hearing yours and Tim's lies here. Go peddle your snake oil elsewhere. What you have is a case of dislike. Build a bridge and get under it already.
Daenerys Stormborn Targaryen Day 2,184, 20:09 :Can't compare the two. If you use the word you said in the Ausrep IRC room its an auto kick..
Every Platform is unique, you can't compare. On Youtube for example you can cuss all you want... As long as you don't make threats. IRC is a different system, it's a bot, it's not a snitch running to authorities for something that was clearly not directed in an offensive manner at anyone in particular. Here is different platform again. The context in which it was used was clearly not directed offensively to anyone, it was just a Aussie slang replacement for the word 'people' in this case,, being 4a.m in the morning when I wrote it I didn't check it, simple mistake. I personally wouldn't have reported it, especially on a fellow citizen, but then again I ain't a rat.
I have just gone through the terms and agreement and the term 'vulgarity' can be argued. The example which I provided could very well be argued as quote 'vulgar..' It could be argued that considering the intention and seeing the word was just replacing 'people' in a slang way, it could be argued that it's no more as vulgar as the example I provided above.
Daenerys Stormborn Targaryen Day 2,184, 20:09: for the life of me I can't see anything that offensive your quote from Dis, perhaps you are simply being a little precious or want to play the victim and pretend you had a point that would have offended people.
Not being precious. It is obvious that a rat ran to daddy (Plato) because they didn't like what I was saying politically. Pathetic...
I did do a headcount and I am not a new player. I have been active in battle the past year, but not politically due to work commitments, but I have been monitoring what has been going on with this Binda thing, and when will it end? I know she made mistakes in the past, but people evolve and learn. She a prolific member of the community who doesn't deserve to be condemned for life.
Get used to it, people report because they are too scared to confront you and are weak people in general. I still rack up about 4 reports a month but they go away on there own.
There is a reason a lot of people hide online.....no one wants to hang out with them in real life!
😁 Here is a good example
