A Talk With: Generalen (10 year)

Day 3,701, 00:24 Published in Norway Norway by Zinitus

Look at this man`s eBirth Day!

Today it`s 10 years since he become a player in this game. In other words, he is one of the first ones walking into the eWorld, after the eBig Bang and immediatly after eAdam and eEve. This edition of A Talk With, is with a man who has been here from almost The Dawn. Place yourselves around the rocking chair and listen, this is really history lessons!

Let us have A Talk With: Generalen (eBorn 07.01.200😎

Northern Light: First of all I want to congratulate you with your anniversary. 10 years! For us, who not have been here so long, you almost look older than Plato. Are you the oldest one in eNorway, as far as you know?

Generalen: Thank you very much! As far as I know I’m the oldest currently alive and active eNorwegian.

NL: For many of us, you have been a silent, but still an active player. Tell us a little more about yourself. Generalens life and adventures both in eRepublik and RL.

Generalen: In eRepublik I consider myself to be merely a citizen of the world. I eat, work, train, vote and check up on some of the local e-newspapers, and that’s pretty much it. Politics is not really my game, though I am member of a party and try my best to keep track of current events. I have fought in a few battles over the years, but I have now left my weapons to rest for the time being. As a curiosity: I have had the same employer in game almost my entire e-life!

In the real world I have gained some “experience points” as well. I’ve travelled the world, had different hobbies, done my service in the armed forces and tried different jobs. I’m an electrician by trade and I’m currently working as a project manager.

NL: Whats your main interest, outside eRep?

Generalen: I enjoy playing video games, watching TV-series and movies, as well as experimenting in the kitchen. I also like most things mechanical and technical so I’m often found taking things apart or applying elbow grease to fix something.

...taking things apart......

NL: Why did you start playing eRep back in 2008, what was fascinating you then?

Generalen: One of my class mates back then had joined the game and said that eNorway was in need of citizens/soldiers so we could take over the world. Plus, there was this enlistment bonus thing, so he got some gold when I reached a certain level.

What fascinated me was the idea of a parallel universe, a place where players could play around with the world map and make their fantasies reality in some ways. Anyone can be a politician, a soldier or perhaps stage a coup.

NL: Have you been in eNorway all the time, or have you been around in other eNations?

Generalen: I’ve had citizenship in eNorway since the day the citizen module came. However, I have visited and lived in many different eNations over the years. Unfortunately I can’t remember them all, but I’ve been everywhere from Bolivia to Japan and in between. I lived in eBelgium for a longer period while eNorway was occupied.

NL: Now, as you see, all us young ones are sitting around your rocking chair, listening. Tell us about the early eRepublik days. How different was the game then, contrary to the current versions today?

Generalen: The game has been through a lot of changes over the time, that’s for sure. New modules come in, others go out.

We had EDEN, PEACE, ATLANTIS and other alliances between countries. There were great wars fought and land lost and gained. At some point Finland, UK, Russia, Sweden amongst others were our mortal enemies, later some became allies. Politics turned on a dime, and every day there was some new thing happening.

All eNations had their own currency, and there was an exchange market. There were missions/quests where one could win gold or other prizes for completing them. A neat way to keep people interested, I think.

Houses were a thing, but they got removed for a while before coming back relatively recently. The house was permanent and worked as a way to increase the happiness/wellness/health/energy level. There were also hospitals you could visit to regain wellness/energy after fighting.

An early eNorwegian hospital in rural areas....

I remember you had to buy tickets to travel places, and the better quality of the ticket the more you mitigated energy loss while travelling. I even think that there was a library so one could study and get a profession at some point.

I would recommend anyone interested in the history of game to check out the wiki, especially in the V1-portal, to learn more about all the crazy modules that existed back in the day and all the twists and turns before we ended up where we are today. The pages about wars are also interesting.

NL: Are there special and remarkable players, eNorwegians, or others during these 10 years, you remember and want to emphasize?

Generalen: Unfortunately, some of them are no longer with us anymore (in game at least!): Sonstiania, DrJens, Akashaton, KristofferAG, Velkator, Stakerauo, Che Kukaken. Some stand out as remarkable politicians; others were great soldiers or simply ordinary eCitizens that stand out to me.

Remarkable eNorwegians on top of my head who are still alive and kicking: bATRA, Johannes Tuksunen, M. de Ruyter, pluvio, hans erik, Delirium90 and taulen.

Taulen is perhaps the one who stands out the most with an amazing career in both politics and war. I also want to take the time to give props to Delirium90 for his incredible achievements on the battlefield.

NL: Since you still playing this game, you obviously haven’t got tired of it! What`s your thoughts about the game today?

Generalen: The community is welcoming and consists of many enthusiastic people, which is essential for its existence and indeed my persistent activity.

I think the game might be a little too focused on politics and I hope the developers implement new (or bring back old) modules to gain the interest of new players.

NL: When this day is over, and before you go to sleep this night, you will read…...what?

Generalen: I’ll probably check up on Reddit or (RL) newspapers 🙂

Thank you, Generalen, for taking Your time to this A Talk With. Since you like experimenting in the kitchen I hope you make yourself an extraordinary dinner today to mark Your Anniversary day!

A big congrats to you from us all!
