[FG4CP] Much policy. Very cabinet.

Day 3,329, 13:23 Published in USA USA by fingerguns

This is going to be a cabinet and policy hybrid article. Apologies in advance for the lack of ‘fun’ in this article. Too much drunk presidenting last night. Srs bsns this morning.

We operated last month with a very small cabinet. There has been a sense for many months now that cabinets have been bloated with a whole lot of ‘important people’ who don’t really want to do anything and ‘new people’ who aren’t given anything to do and aren’t empowered to just do whatever. So, like, nothing ever happens. I wanted to see if a much smaller cabinet would produce good results. For the most part it did.

The small cabinet was effective for a slow month where most of our work was behind the scenes anyway, but now with people back and with what I want to do for the term, we really do need more people. I have a pretty open door and people seem to feel comfortable telling me what we could be doing better. I appreciate that because now we can make corrections. Most of the critiques of the term is that there needed to be more public-facing communication. I was a little surprised by that given the sheer number of articles that were cranked out, but I understand what you guys are saying. There is specific information you would like to have that you are not getting. We will fix this.

Defense: Senry

Senry was an all-star last term. He was involved in a little bit of everything. He did what was asked of him and he is constantly cooking up new ideas. If I thought someone could do this job better than he does, I would put that person in this spot. But he is an extremely valuable team member and impressed me with his depth of knowledge and willingness to just get it done. Whatever it is.

A consistent complaint was about the DoD paper and confusion about battle priorities. There were days when the priorities were obvious because we were directly engaged in battle, but there were other days when our allies needed back up and it wasn’t clear which battle we should focus on nor was it communicated why we should care about any of it at all. That HAS TO be corrected this month.

Defense will be putting together a staff of people to publish and maintain priorities at least every other day. I have asked Komeko to head this up, but more hands on deck are needed. The ideal candidates for this staff have decent-enough writing skills, can follow directions but are also critical thinkers with an interest in foreign affairs. If that is you, contact me or Senry.

DoCA: rainy sunday

I’m not sure people fully appreciate what a pain in the ass it is to run benefit programs. They each seem to run completely independently with little cohesion or oversight...and it’s been that way for a while. Rainy sunday fixed that. This was a 100% behind-the-scenes job. It wasn’t glamorous. It doesn’t win you public praise. People only talk about the benefit programs when they don’t get their supplies quickly. But rainy did a great job this month streamlining some things and filling orders. She also worked with evry on putting together the economic guide.

We had a goal of increasing public visibility of these benefit programs to get more people using them. We only touched on it, though, mostly because of the streamlining that needed to be done. A sudden flood of requests would’ve been overwhelming. Now that things are stable, we want to do even more to get as many people as possible utilizing these programs! She will be staffing up DoCA with people to fulfill requests, but separately to help market and promote these programs. We will also put out more guides for newer players.

Ideal candidates for DoCA staff are strong communicators who like to have a good time. Hype. Hype. Hype. If that’s you, contact me or rainy.

Foreign Affairs: Yui and Kody5

What you hope to have with Foreign Affairs is INFORMATION... Before it’s public knowledge. You also need to be able to process that info and advise the best course of action. This last month was decent enough. I took a risk with MCKK. He’s not super familiar with how the eUS operates and his move into our FA made other countries as skeptical of him as some people in our country were. I think he did a pretty good job despite that hand being tied behind his back, but we ended up needing a lot of cooks in the kitchen. I didn’t actually mind the slightly larger team, but there were times people were being pulled off of other things to work on FA, and that’s not something I want to do. I hope MCKK stays on as a deputy, but I leave that up to the co-MoFAs.

Yui was a surprisingly valuable asset this month. I was told he never does anything, but it turns out that’s not completely accurate. I was very glad to have him around on a number of occasions. He’s already plugged into FA and into the larger game. I am putting him in this spot to help move information where it needs to go throughout the executive. Kody has always been my right-hand man, but I feel like things are starting to shift. He’s growing in this game and it’s just a matter of time before he’s wearing the daddy pants and controlling all the buttons. He shouldn’t be my Chief of Staff again. He should be in FA and start building those relationships. He’s really sharp and always (mostly) paying attention, soaking up this game like a sponge. Let’s see what he does!

In keeping with the larger goal of giving people the information they want/need, I am forcing Wild Owl to start writing again about our various allies. I haven’t actually told him I plan on making him do that, but after the cg debacle I think he owes me.

Media: Terran Loyalist

Last month we put WHPR in the hands of the Chief of Staff. I really liked that idea because honestly the CoS doesn’t do much after access has been doled out and WHPR is just presenting the information the CoS is getting anyway. I also run a team where constant communication is just how things work, so there was no need to really bug people about updates. But I think maybe I made the wrong decision there. I didn’t need to get rid of media, I needed to get rid of CoS.

So I want to bring back the media department and have someone focus on putting the WHPR together. I want to increase quality of information we are putting out and I can think of no one better to do this than Terran Loyalist. I have been a fan of his paper since his first Foreign Press Selection. I like the way he puts information together and I like that he pulls from so many sources and conducts relevant, timely interviews. I also like that he put together such a great paper without anybody actually asking him to. It’s just what he wanted to do. I dig that and that’s what I want for media.

My goals for media include working with DoCA to help with the how’s and why’s of the little things we take for granted. Everything from why we have a defensive dictatorship (if that is restored), to how mechanics of various aspects work to some meta explanations, as well. Yes, yes ‘it’s all on the wiki’, but it should also be in our media. They will also work with Wild Owl to get more of those sweet ally profiles back into WHPR. If you would love to get in on any of that and contribute guides or just pieces for WHPR, contact me or Terran.

VP/Prime Minister/CoS: Pfeiffer

I knew he would be around last term but I really wasn’t planning on him being in the cabinet. When the vacancy appeared, he was an obvious choice and now I can’t imagine being President without him by my side. I know people are hard on him and he is hard on people, but when something crazy happens (like a multi of an enemy of the state is put into Congress and starts a revolution), he is 100% the guy you want and need. He knows when to stay out of it, when to present options and when to give orders. He knows the mechanics and the meta and makes sure I don’t make some bonehead mistake because I totally don’t care about certain things like Congressional procedures (I’m still learning...ugh). He’s such an asset to this country and to any Administration and I am glad to have him in mine.
