The Way of eRepublik

Whenever we start a new session of eRepublik, it's best to try to immediately forget everything, to empty one's hands and head of anything that may be hanging on from a previous session. Try to approach it like "This is the first time I've ever played this game. What am I going to do?"

Wearing the white belt means carrying an empty cup. It's about setting aside what we think we know and opening our minds to learning as if for the first time. It's about listening more than talking. Getting rid of preconceptions that block new learning.

The thing is to understand eRepublik in our bones. Keep an empty cup handy. Once we think we know everything, we've lost the Way.

LOGGING IN

Logging in is the first step.

Look deeply into the spirit of your mouse taps and the dance of fingers on your keyboard (or whatever) as you approach the game. Consider the technical precision of its wiring. The electronic pathways involved in the movements it triggers. If you are typing in a login ID and password, take a moment to appreciate the action of the keys. The lovely backlighting on your gaming keyboard (if that's your thing).

The all-ways movement of the mouse ball, rotating every-which-way and landing right there.

Log in as well as you can. Anything less is spiritless.

Don't log in mindlessly. Connect with the game carrying a spirit of purpose. You are about to do something that has not been done before and will never be done again. Prepare yourself to play.

When you log in, log in.

"There are no wrong notes; some are just more right than others."

NEXT TIME: Getting into the flow of the game.
