Proposed New Tax Rates

Day 758, 14:38 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Bank of England

War is good for us but it is also expensive, as is the number of MPPs we need to run. Currently we are spending more than we are taking in tax so taxes need to rise. Previously in wartime extra VAT tax on weapons has been added but I think we should be encouraging the use of weapons so I would rather raise our flat rate of income tax from 15% to 22%. This is also less likely to be a temporary measure than before - due to the increased MPP cost of upkeep, a regular expense.

To compare us to other countries here is the broad tax rates in a few countries:

.......... Income.... Vat
USA........ 20 %..... 8 %
Indo........ 20 %..... 1 %
Serbia...... 10 %..... 5 %
France..... 25 %..... 5 %
S Africa..... 5 %..... 1 %
Germany... 12 %.... 12 %
UK (new).. 22 %..... 1 %

Against these our taxes after the change will be at the higher end of the spectrum - but similar to the US/Indo/France. We don't have any valuable natural resources and our current position in the thick of the action necessitates a high proportion of our economy dedicated to the military and MPPs.

Due to the downtime in the UK forum sponsorship was sought and received on IRC, full details will follow on the forum when it returns.

Proposed new tax rates:

income/import/vat

food 22% 99% 1%
gift 22% 99% 1%
weapon 22% 99% 1%
tickets 22% 99% 1%
Grain 22% 99%
house 22% 99% 1%

An error was made with the housing proposal: congressmen please vote NO to that one and a new proposal will be put forward tomorrow.

We still have some business to do so any congressmen with spare proposals who wishes to help out (and get some free xp) please drop me a pm.
